so far im leaning towards chromecast with google tv. wondering if theres a solution that also supports usb to play mkv files (which has chromecast aswell and doesnt sacrifice important features like dolby vision, like the xiaomi mi box s does). still got some research to do, the video did help nontheless, thanks

Mi favorite is the FireTV Stick 4K for the same reasons you liked the new chromecast: You can put it in any angle with the HDMI extension Controls the TV You can change inputs with the voice assistant Alexa assistant integrated You can use your photos as screensavers 4K with HDR, HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision Dolby Atmos audio You can pair it with an Echo Studio, Echo, or an Echo Dot (or more Echos if you want to), to stream the audio to it without lag. You can pair it to an Echo Flex or Echo Input via bluetooth and it won't have lag. The plus: you can control it using the Echo Dot.

Actually, you don't need to find the TV remote to switch HDMI (when you were mentioning Fire TV Stick couldn't). You can hold the mic button down on the Fire TV remote and say "Switch to HDMI 'X'" and it will switch.

The only negative about the Chromecast is their color choices. I wish they had things other than those pastel colors that stand out like a sore thumb. Everything in the entertainment center and all the remotes are black, grey, or dark wood, and then there is this bright white thing that practically glows in the dark. I really wish they had a black option like they did with the other Chromecasts

I got the Roku streming stick + and I love it. There is no headphone jack on the remote controle but I can use the Roku android app private listening option and get sound via the headphones linked to my smartphone and there is no lag/delay with the sound. There is a lot of free stuff through the Roku chanel, movies, series etc.. I would recommend it to anyone trying to transform a non-smart tv into a smart tv 🙂

Never knew that you could airplay with the Roku tv. Def a selling point for me, instead of buying the Apple TV box for much more. I’m in the Apple ecosystem but currently use a fire stick as my streaming device. I always wish that it had airplay so I can cast.

You can also change the input with the Fire TV stick. Press the microphone button and say Change Input.

since you provided so much information and clarity, here’s one back I can suggest for you! :) -> When using your Chromecast with Google TV and you’ve got your bluetooth earbuds or headset on… and as you mentioned, “there’s a bit of lag there” = many TV’s (perhaps not the budget varieties; but many major brands) should have an option in the menu under ‘Sound’ or ‘Audio’ settings to adjust the lip sync delay. This is usually represented on screen as a L(-) R(+) Slider style and increments by ms values. If you can find this setting on your TV it might help bring the audio in sync with the picture. (I think it actually buffers the picture to the audio not the audio to the picture, but hey semantics! ). …Shame the ChromeCast doesn’t have that setting onboard itself tho…

Top 5 streaming sticks? These are basically all of the streaming sticks. I keep trying to leave Roku because the interface is clunky and dated compared to the others, but it is basically the Switzerland of streaming sticks and has pretty much every service available on it, so I end up back on it.

I had a Firestick and replaced it with an Apple TV. I agree that the interface is horrible. I like the Apple TV interface and the fact that you can get all the other high profile services. The interface is really nice. The only reason I don’t use it anymore is that I updated my TV to an LG, which has the apps for pretty much everything available.

Basically if you own everything Apple get a Apple TV shit is actually super clean and the fact it connects to all your devices is super clutch.... that being said if you ain’t a big Apple head get a firestick you can jailbreak it and play super Mario 64 no Nintendo switch required 😂😂

I own them all and honestly buy the one you pay monthly service for. Buy Chromecast if you pay for RU-vid premium. But Apple if you pay for Apple TV Buy Fire stick if you pay for prime.

@@jakobalgeblad6732 If you have a smart TV, use it. As long as it is not too old it will be just as good for what you just mentioned. Honestly, I use LG's interface instead of my Apple TV 4k. Apple Tv. Super smooth but RU-vid doesn't have full support for some surround sound audio on Apple TV. If not, Google Chrome TV stick, whatever they're called nowadays.. it's better than fire Stick because you don't get ads.

I have an Apple TV 3rd Gen, been tempted to buy the 4k version but I passed on it and purchased a Roku Express Premium 4K that way I get to have more channels that Apple TV doesn’t have and ROKU now supports Apple TV+ which is a win, win! and the good thing about it.... it much cheaper and I can travel with it.

Hi, thanks for the review. I like the fact you mentioned important elements not covered elsewhere, but I am still hungry for more details... For example, the Fire TV sticks are Android based, so it is easy to install all sorts of apps (and even sideload them if necessary), but what about the Roku and Chromecast? Also, streaming is probably what most people will use those devices for, however, some will want to also browse content from their local networks like homemade videos stored on a PC. Which stick gets you covered for that? What about listening to music?

Don't buy the fire stick . They have horrible android app support and their splash screen is full of their show ads which u can't turn off . Recently they have turned off youtube as well so i can't access yt .

@Ron Keys I don't think ads change by device. RU-vid is RU-vid as far as I know. I like Roku for the simple fact it is not affiliated with a large company and they don't try and push their content or products on you.

I have a 10 year old Roku 3, a 5 year old Roku Premium and a new Roku Ultimate on my new 4K TV. I prefer to hardwire everything I can to keep my Wi-Fi load low. I am very impressed with their ease of use, performance and long life.

With Chromecast you pretty much access all other devices' content plus the ability to connect a different USB-C hub (keyboard connection, mouse, expanded storage) that has an ethernet port. That fact, plus having access to the Play store makes the Chromecast the clear winner.

Couple months late to the party, but thank you for this video review. Very detailed and helpful! I have an LG OLED CX and HBO MAX is not supported due to corporate greed with AT&T/Samsung or something like that. Finally can watch HBO content without using Apple Airplay. The audio/visual quality for HBO is absolute garbage over Airplay even with one of the best TV's on the market, so having Chromecast (4K HDR/Dolby) will solve that issue. After putting aside money for a year and spending $1800 on my CX, what's another $50 lol. Thanks again brother!

We just switched from a Roku to FireTV. And I gotta say, I'm not agreeing with you. The FireTV seems on par with the Roku. The interface is fine(not great but didn't see anything better or worse than Roku), and it has apps you just can't get on Roku(without fiddling with a developer mode) like HBO Max and Peacock(gotta side-load Peacock). And that was the deal breaker for Roku. HBO Max has been out for months and they REFUSE to work with HBO to get HBO Max on their platform. Since Amazon caved and and gave us HBO Max, and has a very easy way to side-load unsupported apps in, AND it's interface is on par with Roku... yeah they're almost tied in my book, with the slight edge going to FireTV with apps you just can't easily get on Roku.

I have a ROKU , the one knock I have against it , the remote didn't last long before it died, however there is a ROKU remote app for my Android phone I found that works perfectly , I have grown to actually prefer it to another remote laying around.

So, my Dish contract is up and of course they are going up to the tune of almost $40 more a month, so being retired and on a fix income I need to look for other options to stay within my budget. There are good options here and I like them, but still not sure on what to choose. I called Spectrum and they want to send me two apple sticks for $20 a month until it's paid off, which I rather just buy it than wind up paying a lot more for it. Great reviews here and good to see before I buy.

i mean it really depends on what tv you have most 4k tvs (in my opinion) are smart so they have Netflix etc. so you probably don’t need a streaming stick or box the new roku’s and apple tv’s have 4k capability but that doesn’t mean they can’t be used on 1080p or 720p tv i recommend a google chrome cast there cheap and there easy to use but all apple tv’s besides the first one support airplay all 4k roku’s also have airplay and most of the new roku’s have the apple tv app so you can use you apple tv+ subscription but the apple tv’s are more expensive and only the 4th gen and 4k have support for your Apple TV subscription but the google chrome cast does not have any of that if you One Apple TV I recommend either the fourth GEN or the 4K and if you’re getting a Roku I recommend the Roku premiere and if you have a 4K TV then get the chrome cast 4K or a 4k roku roku’s and chrome casts and apple tv’s are the best (in my opinion)

Not all apps are cast compatible. So, with that, Chromecast is limited. The remote is nicer to use than the Firesticks.

I like the interface on Google TV the best, but the Chromecast with Google TV doesn't support frame rate matching to the content that's playing, so it creates a juddering effect with motion. For that reason I prefer the Apple TV 4K because most apps on there support frame rate matching. Also the "Up Next" feature on Apple TV is far superior to Google's watchlist feature on Chromecast.

What is frame rate matching? Is it really necessary? And if the interface is best on Chromecast, it’s a shame they don’t have a picture of it on the box. I was looking at these at the store, and only Roku had a picture of the interface on the box. I don’t get it. That’s literally what the product is.

you have to separate your 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi, and connect it to your 5ghz. I do them and I no longer have a problem even with a small flow

Fyi... Firestick also has bluetooth connectivity to wireless earbuds/headphones. I use it all the time for hands free viewing (listening) around the house. No bluetooth with the Roku devices.... unless you bluetooth to the Roku app on your phone.

Nvidia Shield, I've had 2015 model since release, it's still an absolute beast, we've used every single day for 5 years, it's never had any problems, and now, there's the cylinder style model. Surprised this didn't make the list, but would massively encourage you to check it out, especially with the all the gaming options available on it too.

Hmm good question... I honestly have not had prime for most of 2020, so I do not remember. I can say they definitely still push Prime Originals. Maybe someone else knows and can answer your question here

Ads are not a problem if you have prime subscription...but they do push Amazon content..

Great vid dude, I’ve got the Amazon 4K Firestick, it’s great, very quick and rarely crashes. I’m in the U.K. so can’t get HBO max or HULU which sucks because there is a lot of stuff on those services I would pay to see.

There is easy ways to get VPNs on these sticks. You just have to look at how to side load your device. In the RU-vid type in "How to side load (insert device name here)" and it will give you a tutorial on how to add apps not supported by the device.

Good vide. I went ahead and got a Roku Streaming+. I would have gotten the new Chromecast, but I've had a lovely time with Chromecast over the years (if I were to buy another Chromecast it would be my fourth one...). I'll sacrifice the ease of just using my phone to cast but I feel like that'll be worth it.

I ordered mine Google TV yesterday (in Sky blue). Additionally I bought the Ethernet adapter for it, which Google provides. I have internet access near my TV so it makes sense to connect it via cable, not wifi. My Chromecast (1st gen) is now 7 years old I think. We have also two Google Home Minis, one in the living room. Will be interesting which will respond to voice commands, the Home Mini, the Google TV or one of our Android Smartphones :-)

My phone and Google home both respond to voice commands at the same time. I'm looking to get Google TV for an older Sharp Aquos top of the line in 2007, back led LCD display, and it was really pre-internet. But it does have Ethernet with only 3 options. So Google TV is what I'm gonna get
