please be specific about Memphis not being ready. They got R-1. they are doing a 200 mil state of the art stadium renovation, they have the most wins in AAC that includes the three coming in this year, excellent basketball, passionate fan base etc. so what gives tell me why they are not ready. I think all this is irresponsible to just say they are not ready. Please reply . Thanks
I think they are just blowing smoke! Lol no pun intended. Memphis and FedEx has been ready for 3 years. We got shot down last year over stadium and not being R1 when bowlsby visited. We are R1 now. Breaking ground after this season. Itll be an 18 month renovation! Governor Lee already has signed off on it. Its done 2 years before USF stadium. Memphis is financially ready for this move!
UConn and Memphis are the ONLY 2 I would EVER consider from your list for their geography & what they would bring to the Big 12. The other 3 do nothing for me & I sure as hell don't want the Big 12 playing on a grade school BLUE field. It looks too junior league. I'd rather have these 2, the Arizona schools, Utah, SDSU and any any schools that break from the ACC down the road IF they ever break up (Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Louisville) I really don't want Colorado back, I'd rather have Colorado State, yes seriously!
Can't understand why Colorado State wouldn't be considered. Big12 gets into the Denver market (yes, Fort Collins is in the Denver DBA), and CSU is a large school, solid academics that fit well with many of the current Big12 members. Geographically makes sense. New football stadium and great facilities. I know CSU hasn't had success in football lately, but they hit everything else the Big12 should be looking for.
@@jesskelley4726 Maryland, Rutgers, and Houston didn't get the call up because they had good programs. They got the nod because they are in Big Metros. CSU hits that spot. Plus, they fit the footprint quite nicely.
Colorado State and UNLV to get out west (Vegas and Denver markets would be great additions), and Memphis and Tulane make too much sense. Boise market is tiny and the last option honestly. Fresno is an intriguing option but adding Denver and Vegas make more sense if you go West.
If your looking at PAC12 interest as a measuring stick for "readiness" then your missing the political climate of the PAC12... especially the bay area schools. Fresno State...heart of California, growing population/ fan base. Just need the opportunity to be on the big stage. Successful programs over years.
UCONN makes absolutely no sense for the Big12 their media market is overrated and they don't move the needle in their own market. Their football is mid FCS level at best and no one cares about them. Boise State should be #1 their TV viewership is as good as any Big12 school, they have a true national following, TV companies have been willing to pay extra money for Boise State games, they fill their soon to be renovated and expanded stadium almost every game, they already have a natural rivalry with BYU and could rekindle the one they had with TCU. It's a no brainer. Memphis should be #2 for many of the same reasons as BSU. It Should Be 1. Boise State 2. Memphis 3. SDSU 4. USF 5. UNLV or Air Force or Tulane
There we go UConn and Boise state this will give the north west region Boise state had a awosome winning percentage it will give byu a driving range game they have a big following outside of Idaho and I will say their values represent the big 23 values and they will stay with the big 22 for a long time
Your premise is flawed. Big 12 expansion is coming at the expense of the PAC 12. Definitely the 4-corners schools plus if possible Washington & Oregon.
Sorry but screw the "Big" 12 after snubbing Memphis twice. Besides Memphis has been in conversations with the ACC and the state legislators are serious about getting a third university into a power conference and that's why the governor approved $350 million to go towards the stadium renovation and the FedExForum renovation which Memphis will benefit heavily from. I just hope the latest push is not too little too late.
Screw the BIG XII??? How about you direct your anger at the Memphis administration for TWICE not being ready when the Big XII came calling. Get your house in order!
Temple never has been even remotely competitive when playing in a P5 conference. Market is there but that's basically where it ends for what they offer
In terms of Western Time Zone G5 Teams, Fresno, Boise, and UNLV make a lot of sense. Yormark is definitely playing to the Old 8 of the New 12.. Bringing in G5's on the cheap allows the Old 8 to maintain financial and competitive advantages for the next 5-10 years.
Fresno State (Big 12 affiliate), instant rival to Boise State and SDSU....Has 4 championships in MWC in football, Big following, Butts in stadium seats is close to 40k per game, 55 media market, California recruitment, etc, etc....oh anybody, anytime, anywhere.
Stop with the UNLV chatter already! No one here in vegas cares. Watch a UNLV game they draw 3-4k fans to a game, they are near the bottom in MWC game attendances. I get that people like coming to Vegas but to watch UNLV play? Nope. Boise draws way better than UNLV, so does SDSU or UT State. Fresno is way more interesting. Bishop Gorman high school draws better here. No conference is adding UNLV.
@@givemefletch1 I have spent quite a bit of time in the Intermountain west and Boise is very popular there. Eastern Oregon, Washington, northern Utah, Nevada, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado in the western parts, all have a lot of Boise fans. I think you. very much underestimate its potential, and if you look back over Boise’s history, since the turn of the century, they’ve finished ranked more than any of the other candidates available. My personal choices would be Boise, Memphis, SDSU. You would have to go to a UNLV football game to really understand how little interest there is. For that team here in Las Vegas
No, they left because the fan base wanted the regional rivalries of the Big East for basketball, so they returned to their old conference. Looks to be working as they are top 25, have a top recruiting class coming in for basketball, and went to a bowl game in football this year
I live in Vegas and UNLV is a Dumpster Fire 🔥. The Best small College that I know of....is Oregon State Adding G5's to the Big 12 would be Detrimental..... It's All about Value....🍺🍺
Stop w/Boise State. It is the academic equivalent of the Police Academy films. Forbes ranks the top 1/3rd of national universities, BSU isn't ranked 🤦.
UCONN?? Good gawd amighty! Y'all are joking right? When they were in the AAC, the football was BAD. So bad they literally gave it up to focus on basketball only in the Big East. They just don't care about football in UCONN land, haven't for a while. Memphis should be WAY ahead of UCONN in consideration.
Saying that Memphis turned down the Big12 is ridiculous. Never would they have ever done that. Y'all have been saying that for 2 years now. list a source please.
Big 12 doesn't need Memphis. PAC12 is on hospice they could go any day now. Stay in the AAC , because if you win the AAC you still go to the new playoffs
Really? Didn't Jim Mora win 6 games last year as an Independent? EXPOSURE makes all the difference. We need at least one more school in the east. Makes sense. It gives us the eyes we need in the heavily populated NE. Sure let the country laugh. 5 National Championships in MBB since 1999. Someone to counter Kansas.
Fresno St and Uconn . Get a foothold in California market and Fresno St is a legit football school. Been to a ton of bowl games. And get a footprint in New York market.. The two biggest media markets in country. Uconn used to be power 5 in big east. Went to a BCS game one year ! And has great bball to add to big 12. Big 12 would have teams in Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Plains, Rockies, and Pac coast ! A true American conference. Also both schools have decent 40,000 capacity stadiums. Shocked you guys didn't bring up Fresno St
They beat some solid ranked P5 teams in the regular season as well. I get the whole “they wouldn’t have that record if they played a full P5 schedule”, but they only can control what they can control. & thats winning consistently for a good period of time & consistently beating P5 teams.
@@mattrancho its about them being classified as a tier 2 research institution though. All pac 12 and X12 schools are tier 1 research institutions. That is an automatic cause presidents to vote NO on any schools for expansion
7.21M viewers in 2022 for Boise St. That exceeds ASU, Arizona, and CUs numbers. Also double SDSU. Yes, Double! So stop talking about local TV market size. Look at viewers.
It's because Boise gets special treatment from the MWC and gets all of the prime time TV slots. Those numbers are inflated due to an unfair setup in the MWC. Boise would not get special treatment in the Big12.
Realignment for the Big 12 is really going to be tough to do without losing out financially in some way I feel like with these smaller schools it's going to come down to markets. Tulane with New Orleans, UNLV with Las Vegas, Memphis is self explanatory, USF will give you a St Petersburg/Tampa presence. If the conference really wants to get back into the Colorado area: Colorado State or Air Force (but Air Force is highly unlikely due to NIL and transfer rule changes making things harder for service academies, but the trade off is service academies don't necessarily need a big payout due to being funded by the US military). If we're SMU is hypothetically off the table, maybe North Texas could be a substitute but I honestly don't see the conference considering another Texas school that isn't SMU. Fresno or San Jose St are possibilities as well. Honestly, I prefer Yormark's wait and see approach. The current options aren't going to be big enough gains to warrant any immediate action. And doing so now would put the Big 12 at risk of becoming the next American Conference.
Utsa would be next in line for Texas schools before North Texas Utsa Is a newer school with a lot of funding their stadium is already a bowl game destination and they are in San Antonio a hot recruiting bed in Texas also they have the San Marcos foot print as well and south Texas
Absolutely correct. It's eyeballs, meaning viewers not TV market size. Boise St had 7.21M viewers last year. Big market SDSU only had 3.5M. And Boise outdrew ASU, CU, and Arizona.
At 101st, Boise is smaller than Waco (Baylor), Tulsa (OSU), Kansas City(Kansas) Des Moines/Ames (ISU) Dallas-Ft Worth (TCU) Cincy, Provo-Salt Lake (BYU) Orlando (UCF) Houston, and Lubbock (Tech) Your metro however is larger than Manhattan (KSU) and Morgantown (WVU). Facts only, sorry.
Love your show here in SEC country. No team needs to be considered for ANY conference unless they bring more revenue in than that conference currently averages to each member. It means nothing if that is not so. Anything less reduces the payout to the schools.
Boise state, UTSA, Memphis, Army and Navy. I could also see Colorado State. Honestly I can only see maybe two on this list that really make sense. This list very shallow when you ask for 5 teams.
Kind of a wasted topic. The only teams that add to the new media deal are P5. One or two G5 teams could be added for strategic positions (i.e. San Diego St., USF) but otherwise, G5 schools are a money drain. So if you don't count the PAC and you don't count G5, who's left? Answer: nobody. I would support jumping the PAC to get San Diego St. but all the others would have to be PAC schools.
Adding U Conn would be a Huge Mistake. Their football program is so poor the gave up on it to concentrate on basketball. They have no football following. I think with the upgraded Simmons Liberty Stadium, Memphis is more than ready. They are solid in the key sports (MBB, WBB and Football) they just need the platform to show. The stadium should be ready by kickoff of the 2025 season. Memphis would be a solid addition to the Big 12 (Big 14).
What are you guys nuts? All G-5 teams……just what the big 12 does not need. UConn, Memphis, usf….give me a break….Might as well as Southern, Grambling, TSU, Florida A&M, Prarie View and the like….Get real guys….
Mark my words San Diego state isn’t joining the Big 12. It makes zero sense. Don’t know why big 12 ppl even think they can get them. They’ve been basically playing a PAC 12 schedule for a while now
Lol yeah and aint no pac 12 schools joining eithier. They gonna keep acting high and mighty and Baylor, Oklahoma st and Kansas, TCU all gonna get snatched away 😂😂😂
UConn may make the best choice among the others. We have enough G5 universities already. Out of all of these they are the best at Basketball, not bad at Football. It gives us a footprint in the New York area, closer to WVU than Florida. I don't think Memphis or Boise are the answer. They were discussed and rejected on our first expansion.
What a coinky dink. The PAC's woes are almost entirely self-inflicted over academic snobbery. Perhaps the PAC needs to get over their hubris and add a program that will improve the conf travel arrangement.
@@CharlesFosterMalloy until you're a tier 1 R1 Carnegie research status institution Pac 12 will never take any R2 school. Not to mention if Oregon, Washington, Oregon st., and Washington st would never open the door for yall. They recruit Idaho. Id love for Boise and Memphis to get in the X12 we feel yalls pain. Looking forward to playing yall on the field. Goodluck on an invite. We are in the same boat. Sometimes I believe bigger conferences are scared of teams like us because they see what Utah and TCU became!
Yes to USF. Tampa is a growing market. Big 12 needs Orlando and Tampa They are also currently building new athletic (specifically football) facilities. That is also a BEAUTIFUL travel destination 👍🏾
As a Memphis I would love to be in the big 12. What kills me is the fan base doesn’t deserve to be in this “leftover” conference. I’d rather see us in the Mountain West right now than whatever the AAC is gonna be now.
Yeah I just think if Memphis admin had convinced donors, FedEx and the city to invest in an on-campus football stadium, they may have been invited with UCF and the others. Maybe after the current stadium is modernized Big 12 may look at them.
I honestly do not see Memphis as an asset to the AAC. How many conference titles have they won in basketball or football? Hell Florida Atlantic beat them in 2008 and almost beat them with a bad team in 2020. Memphis fans have no grounds to call any other AAC team inferior when they have been a flaming garbage heap (except a few bright spots in basketball) for most of its history. Also, who would want to go to crime ravaged muddy water Memphis when they can go to school in beautiful Boca Raton? Florida Atlantic is going to curb stomp Memphis, beginning next year. Florida Atlantic has won a football conference title in every conference they have been in. The AAC will be no different. Heck, Florida Atlantic is currently ranked in the top 25 in basketball with a 24-2 record.
Rasheed you need to wake up son! Daddy got an ass whipping for yall😂😂😂 8 straight bowl seasons. Made a NY6. If not for Lame kiffin yall wouldn't have a decent memory on the field. Memphis in 08 was garbage. Oh that was 15 years ago. You sound like a Dallas cowboy fan. You been getting too much Florida sun bruh
@@CobraCommander11 you must have your head up your ass. We literally have 14 conference titles in basketball going all the back to the early 70’s. Some of those were in legit conferences too. Hell, CUSA held the conference tournaments in Memphis for years b/c we were the only fan base that would buy tickets! I was at those games. 15-16000 people. Is sorry ass FAU doing that?! No. We also have a few conference titles in football also recently.
UTSA would be great and continue that organic rivalry that was forming with U of H, plus they will run AAC next season to help boost it's name even further with what ppl believe to be it's rapid growth.
how many top 25 wins do you have in 10 years? None! How many bowl games have they won? Zero! have fun in your "dome" more like a 40 year old crumbling and failed attempt at attracting a pro team to your second rate city. You need it to have AC so all UTSA's overweight fans don't have a heart attack eating churros.
Even if Pac falling apart is not imminent, its still inevitable. Just wait, we’re fine at 12. Let Pac and ACC get sorted out and go from there. SDSU is only exception, Bowlsby did good with expansion but dropped the ball not adding them.
The usf cows have a losing attitude and the Big 12 needs programs that will be competitive to raise the national respect for the conference. How the turn tables turn. Go KNIGHTS!
If you can't get the 4C Pac schools, do nothing. Adding Boise, Memphis, UCONN, etc. is pointless. In fact, ESPN already said no to more G5 schools. It isn't happening.
Man, time for y'all to close up shop on conference realignment talk from here on out since nobody reasonably available is worthy... according to Craig Smoke. I like UConn but there's no way they're #1. You failed to mention Fresno State and Tulane, who are actually, probably #3 and #4 behind SDSU and SMU. UConn is a good call though. So is UMass. But they are way down the list for football, up the list for basketball.
Ecu is really the only reputable candidate and even then they will never be taken since there are 4 other schools already in nc... So it will never happen. If they were in another state however that could have been different
Boise State have been eaten into the PAC 12 tv market including the Spokane. Boise is 75th size metro. People do not realized how many households outside of the metro that would call Boise State as their team. They have taken all of the state of Idaho, fanbase is very strong in eastern Washington all the way up to Spokane. Spokane is another tv market. Both Boise State and Washington State could fit into Spokane's tv market. Spokane is 98th. Combine the two metro population would give Boise State at 1,498,936 million population. That does not include outside of the metro areas like Pullman, Moscow, Twin Falls, Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Elko NV, Walla Walla WA, Kennewick WA, La Grande OR, Libby, Mont Jackson WY, and any other parts of oregon, Washington, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Montana and Colorado. Plus, they do have Mormans in that state which is a school that BYU wants in the Big 12. They can recruit there as well.
Florida Atlantic should be added. Recent football success and a currently ranked basketball team at 24-2. Plus the school is located in beautiful Boca Raton. The trip alone would be an asset to the Big 12. This is a conference where teams have to travel to manhattan and Lawrence Kansas. A trip to Boca Raton would be a great and a ratings bonanza as the stadium and city looks good on tv. Really good.
@@vernonsheldon-witter1225 Well I think they’re gonna be waiting a while bud. The Big 12 is not in a position to poach other P5 team right now. It’s crazy how people thought the Big12 was over and they expanded with G5 teams and they’re better for it but for some reason they don’t think the PAC 12 can’t mimic that.
South Florida’s biggest mistake was firing Jim Leavitt. He built the program up and he had them competitive every year they were better than Central Florida for the time he was there. They were always tough in the Big East. After they fired Leavitt the program tanked and has never been the same.
East Pod - WVU, Cincy, UConn, UCF Central Pod - Kansas, K-State, Iowa St, Oklahoma St South Pod - Baylor, Houston, Texas Tech, TCU West Pod - BYU, Arizona, ASU, (One other West coast school - Utah? Colorado?) This would be a great conference in my opinion. Of course, I am bias towards basketball so adding Arizona and UConn to the mix would be awesome.
USF, UNLV and Boise State would be great pickups. Memphis and U Conn not so much. Think Fresno State, Tulane, and UTSA for good teams in big TV markets. And SMU if the Pac12 doesn't already have them locked up.
If Fresno State joined we'd have the 3rd biggest city in the big 12. The San Joaquin Valley is home to 4.2 million people. Throw in the Sacramento Valley which adds another 2+ million people and you got 6.5 million people that make up the Central Valley. Fresno State is the 3rd best ag school in California. We just had the most watched mw championship game and have the 3rd longest active win streak in the nation. We're top 10 in overall conference championship games won and have 2 D1 national championships.
