Troubleshooting methodology can and will get you a job. Interviews are basically just a practical technical exam. And sometimes the person doing the interview is more interested in seeing how you think through a problem and not if you know the "right" answer all the time

Our intern turned to me one day as we are walking back from helping a user. "Its almost embarrassing how often rebooting a computer works to clear up a problem."

This is good for Desktop level troubleshooting. But IT as a whole, proper steps would be follow the OSI model from Physical up to Application layer, isolating what works and doesn't work along the way... "Yeah let me just re-image my PC when the network admin put me on the wrong vlan or sys admin didn't add me to the correct groups/roles." lol :)
@viniciusdonadiobombazar3810
I agree, IT level 1 trying to understand troubleshooting here, and honestly, if you isolate the issue first, sometimes you'll see that none of there 'R's will work, and also its a very brute and non-logical approach. It will solve many issues but I don't find it professional. Saw someone's comment saying it will solve 90% of the issues, but I'm searching for troubleshooting methods exactly to identify those other 10%...
@viniciusdonadiobombazar3810
One good example is that I basically followed that video (before even watching it) to fix a (damn) printer, and in the end I reimaged it and it disconfigured all the other presets that a printers technician had set up previously. Following these steps can be a terrible approach. No brain required to do it though :/

What happened to understand the end users issue completely, duplicate the problem, tests to see if there is a hardware failure causing the issue. And dont forget the all popular malware scans. (Maybe I just have a different outlook since I assist residential clients every day)

Hey... Uhm.... I think I'm about to get fired from the post office. Its just not working out. But I'm considering looking for help desk positions. I'm in the SF Bay Area, so I'm not sure how competitive or in demand these jobs are, especially cause I'm still studying for A+. Any pointers?

Make sure you get a book to study, go watch Professor Messers' videos on youtube(they are free and awesome), maybe buy a second course to study. I went with Mike Meyers stuff on UDEMY. Check out the reddit board for Comptia, just go to reddit.com and type in comptia, the board members are really helpful. Get a couple testing apps and the Exam Cram book, I just took my 901 last week and the questions are pretty close in composition and subject matter. Most importantly realize that you can take the test over again. This isn't life or death, it's just the beginning!

I'm taking my first class in CIS at my local college. I purchased a new laptop to do work on but my professor said I need to have Packet Tracer installed to do hw and it most likely won't work well with my Chromebook. Any advice? I'm trying to avoid having to go all the way to school to use their PC's to get stuff done. Any help would be much appreciated.

What is ReImage ? CAN somebody PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME IN DETAIL
@emma3815
@emma3815 3 года назад
reimage is when you want to reinvent yourself so you have to steal someones identity. Identity theft happens when fraudsters access enough information about someone’s identity (such as their name, date of birth, current or previous addresses) to commit identity fraud. Identity theft can take place whether the fraud victim is alive or deceased. If you’re a victim of identity theft, it can lead to fraud that can have a direct impact on your personal finances and could also make it difficult for you to obtain loans, credit cards or a mortgage until the matter is resolved. Criminals commit identity theft by stealing your personal information. This is often done by taking documents from your rubbish or by making contact with you and pretending to be from a legitimate organisation. Serious answer: A computer image is basically a copy of everything on a computer: that includes things like the operating system, drivers, software, custom settings, etc. IT departments usually have system images for the computers in the business so that they more or less have the same overall configuration. If a computer gets a virus or otherwise becomes unusable due to system corruption, a tech can re-image a computer. That means that means that everything on the computer is erased an a pre-made system image is deployed to the computer which will get it back up and running again. You could manually reinstall Windows and install all of the programs and settings. That is doable, but not scalable. It may work fine for a few computers but if you have tens or hundreds of computers to deploy, it becomes impractical to do it manually. Real world example: I work in IT at a school district. One of our systems administrator guys has an SCCM server (a very convoluted Microsoft server system for managing and deploying computers) which has a few different images for different use cases. For example, we have a teacher image which will install Windows 10, the MS Office suite, google Chrome and a few other programs as well as automatically join that computer to the domain. We also have images for office staff which is similar to the teacher image, except it doesn't contain the Smartboard software. When we get new computers, or it becomes time to re-image them, we boot them off of the network and go through the re-imaging process which is 99% automated.

I do not agree. These steps suggested are all assuming just one type of issues. What reboot can do if you are troubleshooting email delivery issue? False positive with a spam filter? Bad VoIP call quality? I was looking for Troubleshooting methodology, but this video is definitely not it.

It's the meatball surgery of IT. It'll do in a pinch but there are obviously better fixes.

Why not follow the CompTIA or even the Novell troubleshooting methods. Some of these steps are not troubleshooting at all but fixes. Some, depending on how you frame it, very customer unfriendly fixes.
@Itcareerquestions
@Itcareerquestions 5 лет назад
I can't take you serious if you're bringing Novell into this. Are they still a thing? I think there are many ways to approach issues and many ways that troubleshooting can be achieved. Arming people with the knowledge of different steps that can be taken is important. I very well can't cover everything in one video but these are some fundamental bits that people should be aware of. If you have specific tips that you would recommend please share them. This is a community for helping people.
