I have the same catch can on my 2012 3.5 ecoboost with 194,000 miles. Truck runs awesome and strong. So to the people who say these engines don’t last they just need to know how to take care of them. Catch can, full synthetic oil and change plugs every 60k miles.
@@bertveldhuizen8699 if got the truck brand new i probably would have put a catch can on it but, I got it at 175k and plan to drive it till it blows up so I'm not gonna bother putting more money into it now unless i have to
@@ericcaswell9840 I bought mine with 73 k on it, now I'm at 87k. First thing I did was replacing the plugs, and the first time I changed the oil I used Mobil1 full synthetic. I also have a 2005 F150 with the (in)famous 5.4, is at 204k now, never had a issue.
I just got a 2019 eco boost 3.5 after totalling my 2018 with the v8 coyote. The coyote has the sound no doubt about it but that bone stock 3.5 will blow away just about anything you encounter on the rd in sport mode extremely fast and powerful.
@RyanHaynes-qs2od So far so good just hit 50 thousand. 45 to 55 mph on the highway with leveling kit and bigger tires I can get 21 1/2 mph 60 to 70mph I get 17 mph running on regular fuel only.
Guys the Oil Catch and Intercooler are musts!!!! There are TSBs out there that include issues fixed by these. You can't use engine or fuel injector cleaners because of the turbo fans, so you need that Oil Catch. That build-up will flake off the intake valves and damage the turbo blade if you use cleaner - there's no approved way by Ford to clean that grime. The intercooler with a drain plug will save you from those misfires in humid conditions. Otherwise, you'll have to drill a hole in your factory intercooler to drain it. I wish RU-vid's search algorithm showed me this guide when I first bought my 2015 F150 with the 3.5L Ecoboost. Instead, I got people suggesting lift kits... Not anything functional.
I have a 2011 1st gen 3.5 ecoboost with 311,000 miles on it, 100% original except a K&N drop in air filter and 3” exhaust with magnaflow muffler, I tow 20’-30’ boats & yachts, palomino cab over camper with towing my striper, no catch can, no cold air intake, stock intercooler….
I think ecoboost got a bad rap from a couple of their problem engines like the 2.0. I've got an 15 3.5 lariat that I absolutely love. Tow regularly and it's torque is ridiculous. About 100k so far but hope to have it for a long time to come. Oil changes every 5k or less depending on how much I tow. I think the engines got a bad reputation from non maintenance. They definitely aren't as forgiving as older na motors when it comes to neglecting maintenance.
Hey everyone 🖐️ Purchase Day 2014 FX4 EcoBoost absolutely loved it installed jlt oil separator right away mine was full every second fill up with gas purchased with about 30,000 MI I think it was slightly abused Just purchased a 2018 lariat 14,000 miles 3.5 vehicle boost jlt is now j&t and already installed on my truck I feel a absolute loss exhaust was already done air intake will be next enjoy everyone thanks for the video beautiful truck
Is it recommended you upgrade the intercooler when tuning to keep the turbos cool from the extra power being generated or will the stock one suffice? That thing is a little spendy.
3.5 Powerboost. Ordered the catch can and got a driver-side mounting bracket. Called and asked for the requested passenger-side bracket, now I have two driver-side brackets.
I hope y’all add the Expedition as a vehicle selection option on your website. Most engine parts will work on the F150 as well as the expedition. Losing sales without having the Expedition listed.
I have a 2017 f150 with the 2.7 and it’s stock except a basic cheep tuner and cold air intake and I can play all day long on road and dirt with 35/12.5 tires on 20s and I’ve had no problems so far with a cheep fox 4.5 inch lift, love the upgrades, head turner and still runs nice bud, message me if ya got any questions
@@michaelscott1619does the lift put any more stress on your suspension? Want to do a 2.5 front level on mine but people say it will wear out front suspension faster
Justin, I just installed the roush air intake on my truck recommend by you and so far so good, thank you. My next mod is the tuner...is it something I can do it myself or need to take it to a shop to get it professionally done? Thanks for your help!
I was told by my mechanic that a catch can was not needed for a 2020 F-150 2.7 because of a modification that was made. True?? I also hear that tuning your truck voids your warranty and is definitely not recommended. True?? Thanks!
So apparently. The original ecoboost had single injection engines which was causing some of the issues with oil and carbon build up (not creating enough heat to burn them off) as of 2019 Ford is saying that they solved this known issue with dual injection, allowing for more control and higher temps.
Downpipes and a resonator delete could be an option to look into! More turbo noise and power from the downpipes, little extra tone without waking your neighbors with the res-delete! -Zach
I don't want to be negative and I understand the displacement difference, but I had a 2003 Lightning, when stock, made slightly better dyno numbers than the 3.5 tuned. 363whp and 430lbs. I am currently in the market for a 2021 and will be buying the 3.5 Hybrid with the 7.2kW. I am curious if there are mods for those...perhaps software that will allow overvolting the electric assist. Have you guys tested nitrous kits? Auxiliary fuel tanks for E85 and tunes? Where are the first weak links in the strength of the driveline? Thanks guys.
Do these mods improve efficiency as well? I'm not chasing big power gain, mainly more fuel efficiency and extending the lifespan of my truck. Mine is a 2019 3.5 EB by the way, If these mods makes more power but retain the same fuel efficiency that's still a positive. I know to get the most out of these mods I'll probably will need to have it tuned and I plan to do so.
With the catch can, cold air intake and exhaust system, no tune will be needed for your truck! I would highly recommend getting a tune if you plan on added the intercooler though. -Zach
Looking for some advice- I have a 2018 F150 3.5 Ecoboost Platinum. I'm looking to upgrade brakes, exhaust, and suspension. We carry a fully loaded truck (4 people plus RSI cap) when we go camping, which usually involves lots of gear and lots of logging roads... Best options?
2016 3.5 Eco here... So after watching, and doing research on the catch can, some say the passenger side is all that is needed, others state that the drivers side is more for boost only. I do alot of towing in the summer, that kicks in the boost. Should I install both? I only saw the passenger side on the JLT site.
I always like to say that if you want the ultimate in protection, installing something on both the passenger and driver side will be the way to roll. Historically, in my experience, the passenger side does most of the heavy lifting but the driver side has value as well. -Justin
@@americantrucks What is a good driver's side catch can? I saw a Mishimoto that does the PCV and CCV systems. Does that cover both sides? Still learning about this stuff.
@@3scrooge I am running an MBRP 4" exhaust and it sounds nice. It wAs done prior to purchase. Not quite a V8 but close. When you drive you most definitely notice . kinda sounds like a diesel .
@@3scrooge I have the exhaust and it sounds extremely ricer, and yes I have the Mbrp 4”, I’ll support his claims that it sounds like a diesel on a cold start if you stand right by the exhaust tip other then that is straight up sounds like a ricer, my buddies make fun of me all the time for it so every time I’m around them I just rev the hell out of it haha I like it, it’s a v6 not a v8 and you aren’t going to get a v8 sound out of it, but you can really hear the turbos with the exhaust system
I would skip tuning it, and I would skip the cache can in place of hot and cold replacement aluminum tubes I like the cold air intake and the better intercooler I would’ve gone with stainless works bOrla S type exhaust magnaflow or thermal and of course torqueo SR1 5W 40
There have been SO MANY vids disproving any kind of gains (other then sound) by applying a "cold air intake". Hell, my 2021 came stock with one; just drop a high flow filter in. ????
I' have read the computer holds memory so switching programmer back to stock settings wont do any good, they can still tell previous data . I'm not 100% positive but I would definitely research more before adding 1 . That was the case for adding a programmer that saved the off setting for start/stop tech. They said dealership can detect certain ones and there is only 1 brand that makes a undetectable 1 that dealership cant tell was used .
Tuners are nice, but i bought one from a company that locks you out of it. It would be nice if I could change the air fuel ratio myself instead of paying them $150 everytime i need to make changes after modifications
I've used CRC Valve Intake spray. What with all the possible damages people say, it worked great for me. It is said use it before every oil change. My RPM on idle is around 1k to 1.2k, but after the first Cleanse, it's been .5 rpm to .7 rpm. Less strain on the engine. Cleans your valves out and rids gunk from your turbos as well.
No, the 2018 2nd generation 2.7 and 3.5 both have Direct fuel injection and Port fuel injection with computer programming; the direct injectors spraying only on cold startup and under hard acceleration. The 2nd generation engines does not need a oil catch can separator.
I have a 21 fi150 with the 3.5 bought the sct tuner and have had no luck with getting the tuner to download information for my vehicle from sct. Don't feel like spending another 400 on buying another one. Any advice? Thank you.
Do you know if the intercooler you listed will fit the 2019 Taurus SHO? I had my eyes on one from a different company, but they are finding it difficult to keep them in stock.
What happened to that Mishi intercooler being "around $800"... Now they are being sold for $970...may as well now look elsewhere since its in the realm now of a lot of others that, sure, involve more work, but is a better product overall
Where exhaust is concerned, you just need something that will move exhaust away from the turbocharger faster or in greater quantities. That's where you get performance from an ecoboost, otherwise it's just noise, and there's nothing wrong with that. I have an Eco-Boost, my third turbocharged car. The exhaust that comes with it isn't exactly bad, but a little more performance is always there to be milked.
my dad plans to get a 2015 Expedition ecoboost (test drove a 2019 F150 ecoboost & the engine has POWER but wants the Expedition for road trip purposes) & it would be cool to mod the 3.5L ecoboost in the 2015 Expedition if my dad ever decides to get the '15 Expedition ecoboost

I have a 2017 f150 with the 3.5 ecoboost and I’m wondering if the oil separator, cold air intake or programmer would affect the vehicles warranty and if so which one or all of them ?
I’ve got the only consumer Full Race package from Full Race. I’ve had issues with it dumping the tune and can’t find a place to reset the tune. Probably will require a complete new work up, on the Dyno. When I first got it, right off the dyno, it was putting 512 hp and 560 tq to the wheels. Two new turbos since and a wonky tune, it’s nowhere near that now. Even still, there’s been a bunch of hi po vehicles that have eaten my dust. Would like to get it back to original hi po. Suggestions ??
I was looking at that exhaust but was worried about the drone and decided to go with the borla attack. Sounds great down low but at high rpm still kinda ricey but I am happy with it over all
MBRP 4" exhaust works way better with full bore / polished exhaust manifolds. I immediately noticed quicker acceleration and response. I also have a hypertech tuner.
Yeah I get the performance upgrade an exhaust gives these engines but I just can’t do any these aftermarket setups cuz sound like crap.. stock sound is way better..
Awesome video! You guys want to send me a catch can kit, maybe a few other things for my "new to me" 2017 2.7l ecoboost so I can do some review/install videos with my new truck?? 😁😁😁 She only has 30k miles so would be a perfect candidate, plus I just bought a gopro hero 8 black for making videos. 😀
Thanks for watching! We aren't doing any sort of sponsorships or sending parts as of right now, unfortunately. If there are any parts you're looking into purchasing though please give our customer service team a call! We can always hook you up with any current promotions or sales! -Zach
Justin, is their much difference between the SCT X4 tuner that you mentioned and the Bully Dog BDX tuner? Also, I noticed SCT has a BDX tuner as well. I have a AFE cold air intake, and want to run a 93 Octane tune. I am in a toss up and don't know which is a better product or which give my truck the best acceleration gains. -Thank you!
I would say the exhaust certainly doesn't hurt. Anytime you can free up a little restriction on a turbo application, its always going to be a positive. Granted you're biggest restriction is still going to be the factory downpipes and cats. -Justin
