I’ve owned (and still do) quite a few boots, depending on what I’m riding and how I’m riding. And one thing I learnt early on is that the boots with ‘zips’ on the inside are completely essential. All these boots are fine, but unless you enjoy spending as much time putting your boots on and taking them off as you do riding your bike, the boots without zips can be a pita imho. Set and forget the laces just once and then zip the boots on & off in seconds! Good round up 👍🏻 but missing a few choice short boots too!
The zipper is a weaker fail point, that can not be fixed on the fly. The zipper clip can pump into your ankles. You also won't get that good one-to-one fit by exclusively using the zipper compared the laces.
Thank you for this! I hadn’t thought about it yet but even comparing my vans to my co verse for skating I do sometimes get sick to death of trying to yank that hi-top around my heels. Would drive me nuts!
One thing essential to keep in mind is what your shift lever and heel guard are going to do to the boots outer finish...I destroy my boots asthetically due to these contact points...a quick shifter will help a bit or if you ride something with a DCT but I mean generally motorcycles are hard on boots appearance
Any Helstons boot has to be in the top 5 Urban boots. I got the Heritage boot for work and genuinely the best boot / shoe i've owned, such good quality. So much so i went and bought the Mountain boot (which you don't stock) for more casual use. Also top tier! I bought the Stylmartin District boot last year based on one of your videos which is a good winter boot as very rugged, but it chunky and laces aren't easy to do in a hurry as no speed laces. In comparison the Helston mountain is sensational, looks wise, lace wise and size wise. Only drawback are these middle sizes. I got a 10.5 in mountain and am 11 usually but they fit fine. I got an 11.5 in heritage boots and fit fine too. but are slimmer so not sure the 10.5 would work. Viva la Helstons is the takeaway!

Hi, The Duration has malleolus protection at the ankle area on both sides and the heel and toe are reinforced for extra rider protection. They are also made from 1.8mm - 2.0mm thickness throughout. Hope this helps - Iza
Wonderful job, but come on guys... let's ditch the TCX X Blend, since TCX was already represented with the Street 3, and instead make room for the Rokker Urban Racer!
An amazing boot the Urban Racer. Tim and I both have a pair! Funnily enough we prepped this vid and then Rokker announced the new Rebel boot (very similar to the Urban Racer) the next day! Always difficult narrowing to a Top5, but the X-Blend is actually the best seller of the lot! Plus, the trainer segment was pretty much created by TCX. There's got to be a solid reason to have 2 products from one brand in a Top 5. - Andrew

I enjoy both you and Tim's reviews, and both of you frequently wear the Urban Racer in your videos, which made it's omission all the more curious and obvious. As someone who fancies vintage styled work boots, I'm also aware the X-Blend is the best seller in the category of 'vintage styled motorcycle work boots'. However, best seller =/= best, so IMHO, of the two, the 'Urban' Racer deserved the nod in an Top 5 'Urban' motorcycle boot list (particularly, when considering they use a Vibram sole that is goodyear welted). That said, I've owned the Street Ace and currently wear the Mood GTX (their my go to for the occasional jaunt), and I wholeheartedly agree that TCX deserves a spot in any 'Top 5' motorcycle boot list (urban or otherwise). Great review from UR, as always!

I wouldn't trust any of these in a crash, they're just glorified workboots masquerading as motorcycle wear. Just remember over 60% of motorcycle injuries involve ankles and lower legs. There are plenty of none garish coloured proper boots made by legitimate manufacturers such as Alpine Stars, Sidi, Daytona, RST etc.
@@L3THALXFOX I have what I suspect are the same BMW shoes, been great for 3 years. One of the zippers is starting to fail and the sole is heavily worn under the balls of my feet (which is fair enough given I have done 47000km on the bike and guess about 40000 were in the BMW shoes)
