Created and developed by Maria Montessori: ”Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the highly trained teacher offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process.”
Love your honesty, humidity, work ethic- after watching this, just got an immense hit of elation -one of your ideas has given me a Eureka moment - a non wooden product (although I might try wood as well) that I realized had been a hazy, flickered into thought then disappear, but now made solid-and just now, have thought of other, similar products to make a brand If this works,I will be paying you a royalty as you were the missing piece of the jigsaw- I'm writing down the other products as I'm typing this so I don't forget - thanks man, you've inspired me 👍👍
I’ve been making noodle boards for at least 4 years now. People love them and Mother’s Day is my best selling time. I’ve done quite a few different styles. Love them!
Excuse my ignorance but can you please let me know what the benefit is for covering your stove top? Is it for small kitchens when you need extra workspace? Doesn't it become a juggling act to then move the board to be able to cook on the stove? Congrats on making them for 4yrs!
I think identifying a niche market is the most important point. By the way, I've never seen a stovetop cover in any home, because the objection is always 'Where do I put it when I want to use the stove?' They just do not sell in my area.
Ty for being so generous with your valuable information. I always believe there is enough money in this world for everyone to make if we work it the right way.
I just came across your channel last night and have watched many of your videos already! Great content. This video in particular gave me the most inspiration! The first two suggestions are where my husband and I are at! I love party supplies, he loves the flight trays! We have been working on these options slowly. Thank you for the inspiration in pushing through to the next level!
I so love your ideas!!! I am a disabled carpenter/home improvement contractor im not in the business anymore for about 10 years i have lupus and now on dialysis for that need a kidney also 2 years ago had 5 surgeries in left eye for detached retina and last year open heart 5 bypass surgery and now sitting here with covid and pneumonia!!! but with all this doesn't bother me i look at it all as a blessing because you truly can't experience all the light(good) that comes from the dark(bad) until you experienced the dark(bad) you will never truly feel the light(good)!!! it does suck i dont work with wood anymore! i'm looking for something to do to make myself busy again but on my time and when i can do it. love all your ideas tho!!! sorry for rambling
This channel needs to blow up! RU-vid has so many variations on this video idea, but this is the first I've seen with suggestions for paths of how to scale each product! Way too many "top 5 projects that sell" videos where a RU-vidr with no underlying large production business lists 5 products that don't sell/aren't scalable.
Montessori was a person that developed a method of teaching young children by giving them the freedom to shape the way they learn over the formal teaching methods used today. They are encouraged to use their imaginations and creative thinking to learn instead of pen and paper tasks. So a Montessori toy would be something that encourages kids to experiment. Its pretty interesting.
0:16 ouch. I did really well with my projects that sold including my stove covers which you featured in your video as well. Easily making over $30k per year as a side hustle with them. Guess it depends on the market. I like your ideas as well.
Never understood the concept of putting a wood stove cover over a gas or electric range. Do they use it because they are tight on space and need extra working area, if so, then they have to remove it to use the range and have to store it or lean it against the wall, plus , grandma may have problems lifting it.
@@jackfrost-fu7hz most stoves aren’t so attractive after a lot of use. The covers just help with giving a cleaner look. My grandma at 90 was still using cast iron cookware on the stove.
@@731Woodworks followed you back in the day just before the pandemic when you were around 10k subs and I got my friends to follow you as well. I am also a Bible believing follower of Jesus Christ and a former Army Captain. I made it a point to pray for you every single day as I was fully behind what you were about and that you championed my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I asked you one simple question back then and you and your wife completely lost your temper. Haven't watched a single thing by you since and haven't recommended you to anyone since either. The simple question that was 100% genuine was, "Were you able to quit your job by selling the things you are encouraging us to make and sell or were you only able to quit your job once you had a revenue stream from RU-vid and other social media outlets?" It was a completely legit question and you flipped out entirely as if I was trying to do a "gotcha" which I wasn't. You lost all respect from me right there. This chap has your number 100%.
I do want to make money with my woodworking, but I don't want to become a business. I'm a 100% Disabled Veteran and working is not an option. I do woodworking as a therapeutic hobby, but I want to make a few bucks to support my other hobby, photography. I use photography to help me get into events that my PTSD wouldn't generally allow me to go to. For instance, growing up I enjoyed racing (all forms of it. If it's fast and loud, I like it). But since the military, I'm very apprehensive to attend these events. However, if I can "hide" behind my camera, it distracts my mind enough to enjoy the event. So, back to what I was saying, I would like my woodworking to make some money to support my photography. This video and your other one about projects that don't make money are great videos and very informative. Thank you and God bless.
Having watched some of your videos on how you got started and built your business, I think that you Embody and Exemplify that spirit that was in and motivated the Founding Fathers and which is an important part (one part) of what has been America's greatness. Your success is Earned and Deserved! Well done!
I am amazed by this video and your attitude! I tend to not watch your channel, as a fellow wood cnc'er, due to your self absorbed cockiness, but this video just made me a subscriber. I think all your videos have great content but need to be made with this down to earth attitude. Basically, without flaunting your multimillion-dollar earnings or telling people how amazing you are... If you keep making videos with this same down to earth attitude, you will have a million subscribers in no time. I hope this doesn't offend and is taken as constructive criticism. I look forward to your future content. Cheers Mate
Hey I just wanted say thank you I'm a new subscriber but I've watched quite a few of your videos and it has been truly helpful to business and community. I'm a volunteer first responder and medical captain of my department I work with my family in my wood shop to support us. Honestly I think you may have just saved us all so again we all would like to thank you for your time and effort to help everyone out there especially the little guys. I would like to contact you further and many discuss some design and ideas. Then compare and contrast to see what could or would be the best outcome. Thank you so much hope to here from you soon.
Much appreciated! I hope I do help, I try to give what little knowledge I have freely hoping someone can use it! Reach out through the contact us form on cicworkshop.com and we can chat
Thank you for sharing! Big letter project would requiere a whole lot of space and investments for the storage tho. And I feel like one would be moving from woodworking to decor business instead. But what I take from this is to think outside the box! There are way more opportunities out there than we think! 💪🏽
We have very popular children's chairs with height adjustment. Children's growing chair. This also applies to Montessori. But there are a lot of manufacturers. Very big competition. I made some chairs and sold them in one week when I was in another country with little wood.
That’s what I do with Marquee letters, but I’m definitely not getting 50-100 a letter. Nobody around here will pay that. I tried 45 a letter and was getting tons of clicks but not rentals. Then I started pricing based on the words . 4 letter words one price and anything over 4 letters another price. That has been going a lot better.
The cncs are how you mass produce something real quick. Defs think they're worth the investment for a business. You can make alot of these with minimal tools but it'd take alot of time and time is money
“You can take the bus to get there, I drove to the same location in my Porsche” “OH SO YOU NEED A PORSCHE?! WHAT A CLOWN” Maybe read the first sentence again. You CAN use minimal tools. You pretended to not hear that in order to make your little condescending comment.
Microbreweries, restaurants… Sandblast their name & logo into the clipboard. Also it can be laser etched. I did a memorial marker for a cat. It was a cheap, 12x12 granite tile from a home improvement center. It was well received, and people don’t mind spending for their pets. I like sand blasting better. It provides a deeper etch into the granite.
I'd never get a stove top cover. One thing people never think about is where you're going to park that monstrosity when you're using the stove. Also, over time it will start to look pretty tough - jammed in the space between the stove and the cabinet (maybe, if it fits), around a lot of cooking that involves grease and other spatters, around hot surfaces.
Stove top covers are not for the average person there buddy. Those are decorations for women who married into money. They have zero concern about where it will be placed while cooking because they are not going to be doing any damn cooking. Same thing with the women that have those crazy nice very white cabinets in their kitchens. You know how they keep them clean? They dont use their kitchen. Their kitchen is a vanity project to make their less well off friends jealous. Ever notice how when these women get these things put in their homes the very first thing they do is plan some event to take place at their home? Its just an excuse to invite their females friends over and show off their vanity projects. Practicality means nothing to them because they do not intend to ever use it. These women would rather die than cook a meal for a family.
Great video. I enjoy watching videos about “what sells” because a lot of times they are simple projects and use up scraps. But this video was different. I like to make too many things. So I like the idea of picking a niche market. This video for me was more about planning things better. Thanks for sharing.
I just bought a used onefinity. And when I booted it up for the first time there was a really cool plaque designed for a specific officer programmed onto it. Guess that guy knew his stuff ha ha.
Cool Video. That concept of building and finding a market has a phrase, it's "Build it and they will come" That philosophy is generally considered a gamble of sorts.
Thanks for the ideas! I was wondering if you personally experienced quite a few sales with each of these projects? I am a year into woodworking and I am currently 63 years old. I would like to supplement my retirement with my own business. Thanks for the thoughts.
i found when staining pieces all ways use a roller to apply the stain never brushes also use a roller to paint door trim etc!cover as much as you can then cut if have too it saves so much time. I was painting the stars on a duplex both sides my helper did one side with a brush and i rolled my side i finished all 13 stairs he was on the second stare. LOL he couldn't believe i was done he really thought he had a time glitch, lol he didn't know i rolled it and comes out way better looking than brush!!
Can you touch more on liability insurance in your next video where it pertains to us making a product and selling it? Thanks and love your latest videos (welcome back)! Keep them coming! I would also engage more with your audience on future topics.
Great video thanks for sharing your insight! You touched on the importance of liability insurance for the kids item but also important to have for the stove top covers. Even though it would be a user issue if someone put it on/over hot burners or turned on while the cover was one, the lawyers these days will take a shot at the maker of the cover. My wife is in the legal field and this is one of the reasons I have stayed away from doing these...I want to, she is skeptical. Thanks again!
I’m enjoying watching your videos. Very informative and inspirational for someone at such a young age. I’ve directed my son to watch them as well. Thank you for the content. Greg
Excellent video! I'm definitely a subscriber. Just ran across in recommendation, and so glad I did! I agree about the oven covers! Huge possibilities! 🎉
Bro, this is phenomenal stuff. Thank you so much for your willingness to give out some serious knowledge! I learned a ton and will definitely move into doing some of these things you named for my small woodworking business!
As a 20 year insurance veteran, I 100% second that you need to be extra careful with insurance if making kids toys. In fact, you may have to go to special insurance companies if making kids toys... So build the extra expense into your business plan.
Thanks for the great vid. Awesome content as always. Please make a video on advise for growing a commercial business. I am in a commercial space and investing into 3 phase machines. But I need some guidance on how to grow my business. Thank you very much. (My main issue is that my projects take too long to complete)
As a certified Montessori teacher, I will tell you that you are confusing Waldorf toys with Montessori Learning Materials. While some Montessori equipment is just stained or left natural., many are also in color as in the Pink Tower, Brown Stair, Red Rods etc. Waldorf teaching stresses all natural and are made of natural and organic materials. Their idea is to leave color and shape (most things can be used in an open-ended way advancing the child's own initiative and creativity. Montessori has very set ways to use each item and how to introduce each to the child. Hope this helps you in the future. Map and letter puzzles are popular in Montessori classrooms, which is how I got into woodworking back in the 80s.
Showing the list of woodworking videos at the beginning when you mention RU-vid videos telling us which projects that sell was a mistake because you showed Matthew Peech at the top. His videos are fantastic. He reverse engineer's products already selling. Shows diverse ways to make them and how to market and sell them.
I also love his videos and his channel along with 731. I said that in a few other comments as well. But I do not think you can build a business on most of the ideas that woodworking RU-vid videos give you not just their videos. I think they work to make extra money but would not work to start a business with.
Great work, your videos are always inspiring. Thank you for sharing your ideas. Best of luck from France. NB for your information : The Montessori method comes from an Italian doctor, Maria Montessori (in 1870) she was a specialised in psychology, psychiatry and pedagogy ( the art of teaching kids) inspired by 2 French Doctors Jean Itard and Edouard Seguin she created a new way of teaching and learning from “handicapped children “ and “ normal children “ fascinating women.
Awesome video brother! This is what I've been looking for. It's not just what can I make but how can I scale this? I love the future business minded thinking! Keep up the great videos!
