Funnily enough, I met Rodger Bumpass (Squidward's VA) at a con and I asked him which was his least favorite was Ink Lemonade due to all the screaming he had to do.
I think the biggest problem with "Are you happy now?" is, that Squidward completely forgets the events of Band Geeks. Because This is definitely his happiest memory...
The problem I have with “Are you happy now” is Squidward claiming not to have a happy memory. Even though “Band Geeks” ended with him tasting (Sweet) victory.
That's a fair point. Perhaps when a person's more prone to anxiety or depressive symptoms they're less likely to be able to recall or focus on their good memories. *shrugs* But that was indeed a beautiful memory for him he should cherish.
@Samuel B-1 Unfortunately, the contradicting thing about that is that Squidward has said many times throughout the show that his life was great before Spongebob became his neighbor, so no matter if 'Are You Happy Now?' took place before or after 'Band Geeks', it still slightly messes with overall continuity of the show.
_It reached the point where I felt I'd contributed a lot and what I wanted to say._ _At that point, the show needs a new blood. And as a writer, you have to move on._ *~ Stephen Hillenburg*
I’ll never forget my husband laughing at the fact that I still watched cartoons, especially Spongebob when we first started dating in 2003 and then surprising me with the box sets of Spongebob season 1 and 2 for Christmas. His little niece, nephew and I started watching them immediately and we bonded quickly. I knew he was a keeper 😍🥰 Thank you Mr. Hillenburg for giving us this special, happy, little sponge. You will be greatly missed ❤️
Death has taken all the good ones in these past 2 or 3 years. Stan Lee, Stephen Hillenburg, Stefan Karl Stefanson, and more. Rest In Piece, Stephen Hillenburg. Without you, this show would never have existed. Thank you for making two, three, maybe even four generations incredibly happy.
Fun fact: I caught reruns of One Course Meal *and* Ink Lemonade. Dad was there to watch both of them. They both had him practically howling with laughter. I guess dark humor was much more popular in the 60's...
While I agree with you on the whole gross, eat toxic food to get a hallucination thing, I think it had a deeper meaning, in the grossest way possible. Don't hurt yourself to feel good.
I believe that the Cuddle E Hugs episode has a hidden message of actual people that use alcohol and drugs to cope, or for people that are convinced to do these drugs to hallucinate things that are WAY over the top. I believe it’s not the sharpest tool in the shed. But to kinda show people what drugs and alcohol can do to you and others near you. A good message I believe.
i see what you're saying, but i think the problem is more so the resulting confusion. There probably was a message like that in there, but it wasn't carried out as well as it should've been, ESPECIALLY with important issues like that, and therefore that's where it's downfall lies. It lacks clarity in what it's trying to do.
Fun Fact: During all the people wishing our favorite yellow sponge a happy birthday, you can see the incredibly awesome cast of Spongebob The Musical! This musical is sooooo underrated, watch it!
Lol I haven't seen the episode, but the way Strider was describing it i was like: did SpongeBob turn into some weird distorted lovecraftian horror show?
Ya I wish they would bring back the old spongbon now they make him so stupid and overexageratted kinda ruined ever since Stephen hillinburg left the show turned bad.
That honestly made me sad, it's honestly upsetting knowing that it's likely that without Stephen the series may have just met it's end as far as quality. It sickens me that against his wishes Nickelodeon is actually going to make the spin off. I really hope his legacy is passed to later generations of children so that they know how good SpongeBob really was. Like seriously, shit was my childhood, and is still being referenced into adulthood by fans. Not trying to get super serious, but if Nickelodeon isn't gunna properly take care of Hillenbergs baby, then it's up to us to keep the dream alive...
The only thing that makes me angry is Nick taking advantage of his passing and making a spin off series when he explicitly said he didn't want any of that for his show. It's a shame they would do that to him. Rest in peace Stephen Hillenburg, you deserved way better. Great vid as always Strider, you're always the light in these dark situations 🙌🙌
Wow looks like someone has nothing else to do with their life then post rude ass comments on RU-vid, I've watched this dude for years heart comments mean jack shit he knows his fans care about him there's no one in his comments here saying "omg I gotta get the heart comment" I'm just being nice while stating my opinion which is what comments are for. He even clearly asks for feedback and opinions you absolute dullard. This is a social media platform what else is new, get over yourself omfg
One thing that always kinda bugged me about "Cuddle E. Hugs" is that previously in "Born Again Krabs," Spongebob has the common sense to (at least attempt to) throw away the krabby patty he found under the grill, and even in "A Day Without Tears," though he was tearfully sad to have to throw away that one patty he dropped, he still had the common sense to do so, yet in this episode he blindly takes a bite from a rotten krabby patty from off the floor with his excuse being that "no krabby patty can truly be rotten"? On the upside, Squidward's reaction at 4:17 was priceless.
The newer episodes are quite disappointing. You can clearly tell they are running out of ideas but they continue to make them. I find that they started drifting away from the original nicer style from a few years ago. Now they make it to weird and try to make the expression stretchy and more flexible than normal. The older episodes were much more humorous but now not even my little sister (6 years) wants to watch it anymore because it scares her
The best part of spongebob’s 20th anniversary was that Patchy finally got to talk to spongebob. When Spongebob cries tears of joy from Patchy wishing him happy birthday warmed my heart so freaking much.
Yeah Squidward publicly humiliated Spongebob a few times. But let's not forget the dozens of times Spongebob broke into Squid's house. Awesome list btw! I love the style of worst then best.
it's still bad of squidward to do that oh you know what is satisfying to watch then squidward getting his punishment for reading spongebobs diary is seeing squidward apologise for reading his diary and learn to never do it again ever same goes for the towns people too its a shame that the towns people didn't get what they deserve ether but still satisfying to see squidward getting what he deserves in the end but a great list of the good and the bad episodes of spongebob
thank you for what you said about depression. so many think it's just being sad but any one i know who has or had it "myself included describe it more as utter emotional numbness. no joy sadness or even anger. i'm happy to see that someone gets that and that more people are realizing it .
One of my favorite modern spongebob episodes is feral friends. I thought it was interesting to see all of the characters turn into their anatomically correct animals. I also liked the ending a lot.
That bear episode kinda seems like what a bad trip would be like. It's definitely not meant for kids. Like what the hell. Who thought making an episode about halluciogenic drugs would be a good idea.
it's less that they made that an episode, and more so how they handled it. substance abuse should be talked abt, unfortunately some kids may see it happening to family members, or other adults around them, hell, maybe even older kids like teenagers around them, but the problem lies with the fact that that episode just did NOT handle this message as carefully as they should.
SpongeBobs 10th anniversary (truth or square) was garbage written by people who didn’t care about sponge bob. Nice to see they redeemed themselves by making a true anniversary episode.
Also, it's good to note that in "Little Yellow Book," the townspeople were placing ALL the blame on Squidward. Mind you, this includes the people in the restaurant at the time, who witnessed this and took part in the bullying, and they chose Squidward as a scapegoat to cover their own shame.
I loved Mall Girl Pearl. Definitely ond of the best. I was just scrolling through channels bored and saw SpongeBob was on so I watched it and it was that episode. It was fun and nice to see Pearl have a whole episode.
I remember how sad I felt after learning of SH's tragic passing. I even made a short video of a sketch I did of Spongebob and Patrick paying respects at his grave, with the words, rest in peace Ocean Man at the top.
I thought Cuddle E Hugs sounded familiar, so I googled his voice actor. Then, I remembered something. I googled the voice of the captain from Wall-E. They have the same voice actor.
No matter what's on or not on this list, nothing will be worse than the horrible "babies" spinoff Nickelodeon is farting out - against Steven Hillenburg's wishes, and reminder *immediately* after his death.
*groans* Wake me when I'm dead! 😑 Side note: I'm just quoting an episode. But seriously, this is straight-out mean. Nickelodeon, you gotta stop doing this.
Some of my favourite episodes are when Plankton is just there as a side character rather than an antagonist. It’s so charming to me to see an “evil” character just... bein some guy
I don't know about you guys but, his videos really helped me get a good night sleep, not in a bad way though. There must be something magical behind his voice, it's so soothing and peaceful. I'm so glad this channel existed in my recommendations just now. Great video!
@@gigachadcooper7381 we need to get your like higher then the actual commentwr for making this absolutely funny joke Jk its not that funny its actually eh
I thought SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout had one or two really cringe moments but was overall a really average episode. Best hour long episode in the show by far tho
To be honest I cringed the entire time. I hadn't seen any modern SpongeBob since like the one where they give plankton paranoia and lead him to near suicide... Yeah after that one I was kinda done with SpongeBob. But the other day I saw this coming on and I was like: they may have improved.... Dear God, I felt insulted. Every joke felt offbeat in my opinion. It was as if they were doing anything they could to make every second a slapstick joke. It felt fake. That being said, I didn't see the ending (mostly because the first half had me so annoyed I decided to just give up) perhaps I'll try to see it at least once through, just so I can have a fuller perspective.
I like how in Bookini, there was the nod reference, to both times of Plankton, when The Flying Dutchman goes inside Spongebob's brain and gets scared in a roller coaster turn of events.
Tbh culture shock the one where Patric says he’s just standing there menacingly and the one where Krabs makes spongebob look for the secret formula but krabs actually had it were the top 3 😁
8:03 Bean is indeed a good bean and I’m so sorry to hear the poor bean got such a bad case of worms. Back on topic I don’t think you said anything that I don’t disagree with at all in this video.
"After season 9" *puts a season 8 episode in honorable mentions* Edit: come back to this comment after like a year and so many people got mad over a stupid joke I made lol
@@jamalsistas414 Yes so it's not *after* 2012. ...but we are just laughing that he broke the rule, not being super pissed or anything, a little is fine though.
I'm glad you included the Top 5 Best in here. Post Season-9 Spongebob is quite good if you ask me, it's very overhated (even if it does have bad episodes)
If I'm being totally honest, seeing the characters as well as their voice actors appear in the same episode was in my opinion the best moment in all of SpongeBob history.
One thing I can adore about the modern seasons is this imo: I like how in some episodes, the writers decided to pair up 2 or more characters together in one episodes. Examples like Swamp Mates (Patrick and Bubble Bass), Whale Watching (Squidward and Pearl), A Cabin in The Kelp (Sandy, Pearl, Karen, and Mrs. Puff), Larry the Floor Manager (Larry, Mr. Krabs, Squidward, Spongebob), Krabby Patty Creature Feature (Sandy and Mr. Krabs), ect. Most of these episodes just have these characters having fun together, going on adventures, or just hanging out! That's what I love about the newer seasons. It's a nice idea they have. Also, I like how they dedicate some episodes to background characters! Such as Moving Bubble Bass, My Leg!, Mall Girl Pearl, and many more! It's nice that they are dedicating episodes to other characters. Well, this was my hot take on part of what I love about the modern seasons :)
You know, Spongebob’s Big Birthday Blowout surprisingly felt like an episode from the golden age of Spongebob. The animation wasn’t nearly as over exaggerated as the other new episodes and it was just pretty funny. I just really wish the other new episodes had slightly less overly exaggerated animations. They can make an amazing episode without them. Watch Feral Friends. Or the episode about the pirates. Also I hate are you happy now mainly because Squidwards had so many happy moments like the ending of band geeks. Also the scuicide jokes...
Could you do Top 5 Best and Worst Spongebob Specials? I think it would be very interesting to compare what makes a Spongebob Special work and what doesn’t.
Brandan Emmanuel I agree with everything especially dunces and dragons except for the fact thaT ATLANTIS SQUAREPANTIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST SPONGEBOB EPISODES
Does anyone agree that one of the best episodes of sponge bob was the Christmas special I'm not sure when it was made but it's a huge part of my childhood because when it came out it was played every year in December and I watch it every Christmas eve
To be fair one of my favorite episodes from modern Spongebob is "Spongebob's Last Stand". The reason why I like this episode is because I love how Spongebob and Patrick tried to save Jellyfish Fields from being destroyed by a highway. I know it's one of those episodes with the enviromental message but on the other side it shows what would have happen if the jellyfishes wouldn't had their home, that's the reason why I really like this episode.
@@cxttoncandy_skies4771 ikr! patchy just adored spongebob and desperately tried to find him and failed. then at end seeing patchy hug spongebob made me ugly cry! and the birthday song haha omg funny and perfectly ends when spongebob almost spills his age and toots his nose... thats brilliantly done...
