Lord of the rings is best movie ever, because of all awards he takes for images, sounds, music, and pictures. Acting also.. so nothing cant compare with LOTR.
My favourites are 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Godfather, Dr. Strangelove, LoTR trilogy, Godfather part 2,Taxi driver, Shining, Life of brian and Holy grail, Alien
OK, how can I explain this without sounding like I'm trying to defend it. The IMDB top 250 list is user generated, so it's film fans and not critics or film scholars making it. All anyone has to do to rate a movie is sign in to the site for a free membership. Also since most of the users are younger, that is why 32 of the top 50 movies were released since 1990.
Imagine how many people who watched certain number of films don't know IMDB exists. Their taste could, but not necessary match this list. Than, how many people are aware IMDB exists but don't bother to register and rate. On the end, how many of them don't find it relevant. I say, IMDB is voice of max 5% of people film related. Not even close for qualifying to rate Best of All Time. Plus, films are made in many countries other than U.S. production-which make 90% of this list. Conclusion: not relevant due to insufficient number of people, who are located in small geographic area which can not be adressed as World.
Out Of Africa, Jaws, Lawrence Of Arabia, Marty, Gone With The Wind and The Best Years Of Our Lives are some of my favorites that did not make the list.
The godfather movies are known to be better than the books while the Lord of the rings movie especially the second and third deviate too heavily from the books to be considered that
@nathanakpe Sometimes deviation from source is a good thing, or just necessary. I can’t imagine LotR following the books to a T actually making decent cinema. The Godfather leaves a great deal out from the novel too and it flows much better because of it. This said, Puzo was also on the screenplay so yeah
Another Movie that should be on this list is "The Passion of the Christ" in terms of: cinematography, direction, acting, screenplay, music, Production Design, Costume Design, etc. It's a masterpiece.
Beyond view rating, a movie about nostalgia and childhood, which represent a certain part of all of us,is more precious than a horror movie with a hostile alien...
Schindler's list, life is beautiful and Jurassic Park would do it for me. Jurassic park was something else in terms of cinema, sensational and revolutionary.
@@maiden5427 I hold the personal belief that a person may only criticise a film if they have watched the whole thing. The ending can sometimes fix everything but that wasn’t the case for the titanic
#1 Once Upon a Time in the West #2 Melody #3 The Petrified Forest #4 The Seventh Seal #5 Predestination #6 Coherence #7 Source Code #8 Facing the Giants #9 God's Not Dead 2 #10 Prince Caspian

Shocking list. No Kubrick, Lang, Murneau, Fellini, Bergman, Wells, Hitchcock only 1 Kurasawa. I could go on. Most of the greatest directors and films of all time missing. There’s no account for bad taste.
IMDB will measure the average taste of the average American. It's like the Oscars - phony melodrama and pretentiously clever sci-fi is as far as you'll get.
There's some movies that always go to the top of the list whenever you hear about favorite movies. Each one of us have our favorites and it makes a big difference on how old we are and how long we've been watching movies. Myself as far as really great movies I have to showcase; Schindler's list, Ben-Hur, Godfather 1 and 2, Forrest Gump, Space Odyssey, Casablanca, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Lawrence of Arabia, Titanic at the top of my list. So many great movies have been made over the years and I've been fortunate enough to see most of these on the big screen when they were first released.
I'm Gen X so its fun to see how many of these i got to see in theatres when i was young (i think 13 of them) and also sad, because i know its harder & more expensive for people to see movies in theatres these days (including myself)
Mine 1- The Godfather I & II 2- The Shawshank Redemption 3- Goodfellas 4- Braveheart 5- Fight Club 6- Seven 7- Forest Gump 8- The Prestige 9- American Beauty 10- Green Mile 11- scent of a woman 12- Snatch 13- Castaway 14- The Schindler's list 15- Catch me if you can 16- Training day 17- Saving private Ryan 18- Troy 19- Heat 20- The notebook
Law Abiding Citizen. I'm pretty sure the rating of 7.4 is only cause of the disappoining ending. Other than that, the movie is a creative masterpiece and deserves a 9
The Goonies, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Alien, Aliens, Some Like It Hot, Sunset Boulevard, No Country For Old Men, There Will Be Blood, Casino, Witness, The Blues Brothers, Looper, Raising Arizona, Stand By Me.
Life of Brian 😂 Dumb and Dumber 😁 Rain Man 😁In the name of the father🍀my left foot 🍀 Groundhog Day😂 Breakfast Club🔥The General 🍀 Scarface ❤️ Carlitos Way💎A Bronx Tale💯 Who Framed Roger Rabbit 😆 The Elephant Man 😂 A hard day's night 🎸 Some of my favourites❤️💎🌍
I've always found the difference between the IMDb top films and the Letterboxd top films interesting. With IMDb, the first foreign film comes in at number 21 with Seven Samurai. Within the Letterboxd top 21, there are 12 foreign films; 57% of the top 21 films on Letterboxd are foreign (more than half) compared IMDb's 4%.
That’s one of the big reasons why I prefer Letterboxd, I think it’s way more accurate. Imdb is definitely for mainstream moviegoers, the only reason I use it anymore is for TV shows
this is based on user votes, so i can easily see why Clockwork Orange and other more provocative and unorthodox movies aren't there because some people downvoted it for no big reason
My top 10 1 godfather part 1 9.7 2 dark knight 9.5 3 pulp fiction 9.2 4 shawshank redep. 9.0 5 Schindler list 8.9 6 gladiator 8.8 7 good the bad and ugly 8.6 8 lord of rings ret. Of king 8.4 9 lord of ring fellow. 8.4 10 interstellar 8.2
My top 10: 1. Raiders of the Lost Ark, 2. Star Wars 3 and 4, 5. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, 6. The Green Mile 7. The 10 Commandments 8. The Godfather 9. Black Panther 10. Avitar I will watch any of these movies any time they are on TV; and some I have on DVD
Well I could argue with you on some movies on this list but not because they aren’t great movies. I believe other films deserve a spot especially over animated films. Still excellent list and thank you 👍
@@darkorange5164 just because people like it doesn't make it the best movie objectively. It's just a standard "feel good" movie which main premise is to make people emotional
@@PolishGod1234 no body said nothing about "best movie objectively" it is just the best rated movie on the website. Why are you so hot to prove people wrong? You are boring
@@darkorange5164 you clearly touched the subject that there are objectively no best movies, so don't try to pretend you didn't. For some reason I can't see your first comment now, I can blame RU-vid for that
1979...Alien el octavo pasajero...dió origen al Terror Espacial...y todo lo alienígena creado por el genio loco de GUIGER...una mezcla de seres y elementos, sexo, máquinas y degradación.... Una OBRA DE ARTE
Missing a whole lot of great movies you youngster need to watch The four feathers 1934,The Good earth 1937,Cabin in the sky 1943,Lawrence of Arabia1962,Dr Zhivago 1965.Been watching movies for 60 years now I find these to be very good movies maybe the best.
I have my top 4 movies no one is allowed to hate in front of me: 4) L.A. Confidental 3) Jurassic Park 2) Dune (2021 version) 1) Apollo 13 It's my subjective oppinion, but I think at least Apollo should be on the list
Guys, if you want your favorite movies to be on IMDB's top, well, go vote for them. You know how it works, right? Also it's a Top 250 originally, so your favorite movie might already be there.
I knew Shawshank Redemption would be #1 my favorite movie. If your ever in Mandsfield Ohio take a tour of the prison where some of it was filmed very cool
star wars trilogy will outlive any of these. timeless. superman with christopher gave me the chills as a kid. i watched all the supermans on tv black and white. chris nailed it
I don't think that Top Gun would be a rate higher than 8 but is actually a nostalgic movie whose marked generations since released. By the way, Top Gun Maverick is one of the best movies released in the last years since the "streaming" is saturating (or just because is a new era of genre) the Superheroes.
Lol u guys Theres is no should its based on the user reviews so there is no putting it between if that was the case i would have put return of the king in the number 1 position bit see i cant
@@stringedaz my all time 70s favorite would be one flew over the cuckoos nest! Some others I love are taxi driver, house, the exorcist, Solaris, a clockwork orange, Barry Lyndon, fantastic planet, the holy mountain, the wicker man, dog day afternoon, rocky, and of course apocalypse now. Sorry for the long response lol
@@Reeemonster2000 That's a fantastic list. My gf grew up in the Philippines and didn't see most of the iconic American movies, so I've been sharing them with her. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest might be my next pick!
My top 5 would be 1) Amadeus 2) The Seven Samurai 3) Vertigo 4) Paths of Glory 5) maybe The Godfather In my top 50 might be: Citizen Kane, Casablanca, The Godfather Part 2, Apocalypse Now, Rope, Pulp Fiction, Matrix, Mad Max 2, Empire Strikes Back, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, City of God, Silence of the Lambs, Ran, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Blade Runner, Alien & maybe Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Seven, Fight Club or Forrest Gump. Probably among more Tarantino, Kubrick, Kurosawa & Hitchcock's films, and probably I'm forgetting a lot of magnificent films. Nausicaa & Castle in the Sky are better films than Chihiro, in my opinion. Return of the King is the worst Lord of the Rings movie, in my opinion. Nolan's films in this list would be out of my top 50 (& of my top 100, but Memento is pretty good). Interstellar is a joke, it's boring & stupid, in my opinion. & #1 Shawsank Redeption isn't bad, but don't make it to my top 50...
