Lights up on Washington Heights...The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies this vibrant and tight-knit community. Yes, I could have been clearer, Megan - BIO was a joint effort as opposed to him composing music and lyrics solo and coming up with the idea for the project himself as he did with Hamilton, which is really what I meant. 😊

Idk if this is an easter egg but after nina left the salon after she told that she dropout, cuca said that she might have left school because she might be pregnant. I felt like that was a reference on what lin said on how broadway producers originally wanted nina to be pregnant or was doing drugs or having an abusive boyfriend for the reason of her dropping out of stanford but lin refused because he does not want to show latino stereotypes in his musical

I noticed that Anthony Ramo's Usnavi received a golf hat right before his date with Vanessa which I assumed to be a call back to Lin's Usnavi who wore a similar hat throughout the Broadway version. They even said it belonged to Usnavi's dad which I interpreted as Lin being a sort of father figure for Anthony.

Did anyone notice in Benny’s dispatch when Benny sees Nina, I think one of them says “it’s good to see your face?” That literally reminded me of Take a Break when Angelica came to visit Eliza and Alexander and she says the same thing to him, and then later on in the movie…..I could’ve sworn one of the characters said “my son” with something else, and in Stay Alive Reprise, Lin “Alexander” says that same thing to Anthony “Philip” before he dies. It’s ironic how similar some parts of ITH and Hamilton are yet they were created years apart

@@tiamarrow6366 that is really nice. You're part of the new generation this material will inspire that so many of the creators are talking about, particularly LMM!! You can still listen to the OBC album on any music streaming platform or here on YT. I have never seen ITH on broadway myself, but my former org/club from high school alma mater was going to mount a production, and I often came to rehearsals to give some alumni notes. Sadly the pandemic cancelled the production, but I will forever treasure this material.

One thing I caught: altho I was very bummed about "Everything I Know" not making it to the film - I think it's Lin-Manuel Miranda's most beautiful, poignant tune - I did notice that the piano accompaniment for it is now used as the background music where that song would have been, when Nina opens the package from Abuela Claudia & then when Usnavi is telling the kids that a "dream isn't some sparkly diamond we get". So, it's still sort of included. Nice touch!

When Abuela Claudia is at the dry cleaners. The song playing in the background is a doo wop version of “Para Siempre” the scratched record song and this version is sung by Mandy Gonzalez the actress that originated the role of Nina Rosario on broadway.

This was actually one of the best produced movie musical adaptation I've seen. It tells the story somewhat better to the point that the audience can identify which story belongs on screen and which one is on broadway. The creativity and transitions were amazing, and this had an ending for Usnavi that I never knew I needed.

Idk if this counts for anything, but Lin originally didn’t want to be in the film at all but at the end they couldn’t find a good cast for Piragüero so they were going to cut Piragüero from the film but then Lin stepped up!

The nod to West Side Story’s “America” in “paciencia y fe” is my favorite. In both versions they really tweak the line “fresh off the boat in America” to sound like “America” and of course the content of the song in that verse in general being reflective. Loved this. Thank you. I appreciate the way you pronounced our words in Spanish. So the C2 on the front window of the ice cream truck is a nod to Christopher Jackson's son Chris which has Autism. When his friends would come visit backstage at Hamilton, they would affectionately be referred to as "Friends of Chris". They knew then who & what they were dealing with. They treated them with so much love and gave them the Royal Treatment.

I was pretty bummed myself. I feel that the omission of Camila added a layer onto Kevin's character that ultimately necessitated changing his dynamics with benny among other reasons. Without that tension between the two, i feel benny and ultimately nina have been relegated as side characters as opposed to nina/usnavi being co-leads in the stage version.

The more I learn about how they've changed Benny's and Nina's story, the less I want to go see the movie. I've looked forward so long to watching each of these stories, and while I know there always have to be some changes, to pull out a big chunk of the heart and soul kind of is a punch in the gut.

Growing up myself in the Heights did anyone else notice they mentioned the discontinuance of the 9 Train. Another minor thing the elevated subway is more in Inwood than Washington Heights. Things only a local would notice.

At least Lin - Manuel Miranda can admit that that line was problematic and was willing to change it. There are some composers that wouldn't care about how that line was offensive and would refuse to change it..❤ but actually now that I think about it LMM wrote some songs for STAR WARS so that also is a Easter egg in itself I guess. Either way I like the star wars line better of course😎

@Andrea Alvarez Arcila Kevin has his own song (inutil) which gives more depth towards his character & reason for selling the business which makes you empathize with him. But he did it behind his family’s back so then we see him & nina fighting then Camila has her song (enough) where she points out Kevin & Nina’s similarity in stubbornness, we see how a typical reserved ‘hold-it-all-in’ wife is what balances the whole household, & also has one of my favourite lyric “when you have a problem you come home” which had me crying like a baby :) but yes just look up in the heights slime tutorial!!

Idk if this is better-known than other easter eggs, but the ensemble/chorus of the background music in some songs includes some OBC members and likely cast members from other versions of the stage musical. Namely Krysta Rodriguez, who you may know from Netflix's Halston, sings as part of the ensemble. I literally went through all the comments thus far to compare easter eggs with everybody! Man i love this material with all my being.

This is going to sound weird and amazing at the same time, but from the moment I became a fan of in the heights about a year ago, Olga Merediz as Abuela Claudia (the only version I know at least) reminds me of my AP Spanish language and culture teacher I had during my senior year (2019-2020). This woman, Ms Perez, was a matriarch to me and I think anyone who ever had her as well. I had her the year COVID began, and her year of retirement. She is the Boricua version of Claudia, and 20 years from now, she'll be impossible to forget. This whole cast is amazing, and impossible to dislike.

In addition to replacing the Donald Trump lyric with Tiger Woods in 96,000, there's a 2nd change moments later. On Broadway, Graffiti Pete says more O's than a phone book in Tokyo. It was changed to something about Obi Wan Kenobi with a light saber. Also, the new West Side Story stars Ariana BeBose as Anita. She was The Bullet in Hamilton and took her final bow the same night as Miranda (and Leslie Odom jr and Phillappa Soo)

Line change from the musical to the movie-Benny's Dispatch. Musical he sang "Don't take the Deegan-Manny Ramirez is in town this weekend" to "Don't take the Deegan-Yo-Big Papi is in town this weekend." In 2008 Manny was a big name bc of the Red Sox. In 2021 he's not as well known...but Big Papi is, regardless of someone being a Sox fan or not. Also Abuela's death scene is different in the movie. It was done perfectly, though!

2 references I have seen (related to his life) -Abuela was "not really my abuela" and I see this as a connection; When Lin-Manuel and Luz were young, they had a nanny. They called said nanny "Abuela" without any biological connection to her. -Vanessa is the name of Lin-Manuel's first love and wife. Just thought that's a little connection to Vanessa
