This set really offers a shockingly well. Incredible card fantasy, lots of variety, classic and fun mechanics, AND actually playable cards. Fantastic set. Im really impressed.
I think there’s actually less Dino centric cards than either previous Ixalan set. I may have made a spreadsheet. You really feel it in Dinos absence from white and white color pairs.
You sang "Jadelight repair, Jadelight replace" and I scream-laughed. (I'm in Kentucky and we do get those commercials.) You really raised your game in this vid, Dev. Bravo!
Bartolomé would make an interesting voltron/aristocrat commander. Basically build your board with the typical voltron equipment, a bunch of tokens, and at least one haste enabler. Slam Barty, suit up, swing in, and sac tokens until P=21. Hes cheap enough that even if a player removes him, rinse repeat
I took a hella long break. I remember a video from back in the day where you were having a bad time. Now I'm back and you're doing good, so that's dope. I subbed. You might be the best magic channel ever. More bars in the intro please.
Magic is so heartbreaking right now. This set looks incredible, but honestly it would be so much better if there was a rotation. Such a shame these cards will never have the chance to shine
From what I saw in early access event, I think this will not be accurate. There were all new deck archetypes that seemed better than the top tier current meta. BGU self mill, mizzium calendar all will be one combo, Boros aggro. All three seemed very solid.
Deeproot Pilgrimage seems like it really wants you to be taking turns off to make a bunch of tokens that you ACTUALLY attack with the next turn. Super easy to do that with the card, at least, any vehicle with Crew 1 essentially turns any nontoken Merfolk into a Bitterblossom.
Great humor, great pacing. Love your stuff in general but this is a cut above! Millennium Calendar is pretty goofy with All Will Be One too, LVD did a mono-red build with it. Maybe Skullspore Nexus goes in the Fight Rigging deck? You get it out cheap, and if your overstatted meatheads die, they upgrade into equally big creatures but without the drawbacks.
Almost feels like cheating to play the love of my life with All Will Be One, but I might attempt to make a deck with it anyways.. love all the new stuff! :D
With Brass' Tunnel Grinder you can just do a play pattern of Turn You Play Tunnel Grinder - Wheel your hand, hopefully hit another tunnel grinder Next Turn - Play second tunnel grinder you got from wheeling, send the new one to the graveyard (hitting descend), wheel your hand again. Next Turn - Play third tunnel grinder you got from wheeling, send the new one to the graveyard (hitting descend), profit
22:10 - The Ancient One also seems decent with Ob Nixilis, the Adversary. Using the Casualty option to immediately ultimate the copy isn't too bad. Turn 3, draw 7 isn't something to completely scoff at.
I was lucky enough to play with Anim Pakal in both of my prereleases, and she's really more like a 3/4 than a 1/2, even with no synergy. Play her, attack with your 2-drop, she gets +1/+1, attack next turn, she gets another +1/+1. That's while putting three 1/1's on the board as well. The card is probably too fragile for constructed, but it does demand an answer and leaves behind (*artifact creature*) tokens if answered at sorcery speed. The card is probably only okay to have in the format at all because the answers are so good -- she runs away with the game VERY quickly if unanswered, at only 3 mana, while often putting value on board tapped and swinging on the turn she comes down.
I had no intention to really get into this set but got two packs just to kinda check it out and I thought "holy shit, there's a good amount just from these packs that I can use"
Have you seen the Millenium Calendar with All Will Be One? Oh yeah, combo deck. Boom. Souls of the Lost is obscene with the BG 3-cost planeswalker FYI. That BGU mill deck based around him is going to shake up standard from what I saw of it.
I played against several pre-release decks this weekend, and one thing I found was that Dracosaur has been "enter the battlefield" crept out of existence. Every time I would see someone play him, or would play him myself, the other side of the table would basically immediately remove it. Yes it runs away with the game if you can't remove it, but because it has no effect when it enters the battlefield, removal is too strong against it
Blame FIRE design. Removal became way too efficient over time to the point that creatures don't stick for longer than a turn. This meant creatures all had to have enter the battlefield effects to be worth playing. This would have caused 1 for 1 removal to become unviable and for most gameplay to become ETB creatures being thrown at each other, which in turn meant that creatures had to have both up front value in the form of ETBs *and* continuous value in the form of on board effects so it was still necessary to remove them. There's a reason that the best deck in modern is a bunch of ETB creatures and all of the actual spells are ways of recurring or cheating those creatures.
Okay so I haven't fully thought this one put but hear me out.... vintage Turn 1 Mountain Black lotus Souls of the lost Dragonsrage Channeler Dark Ritual Wheel of Fortune/timetwister Mox Ruby/Lotus Petal/Mox Sapphire > Play mountain > Then dragonsrage channeler > Then lotus (trigger channeler descent +1) > Sac Lotus for 3 blk (+2 descent) > Play Souls of the Lost (DRC trigger now +3 desc potentially) > Play Dark Ritual (drc +4 desc) > Play lotus petal/ mox ruby or sapphire (drc +5 desc) > sac lotus petal for 1 red/blue (+6 desc) > Play wheel of fortune / time twister (drc trigger +7 desc) You now have roughly 7 or so cards in your graveyard, dragonsrage channeler already on delirium, a Souls of lost with potentially +7 descent, 7 cards in hand, 20 life, and 1 black mana left to play into those 7 cards with before the end of turn 1. This isn't even a rickety combo. It's not a huge setback to have a spell countered. I'm sure it won't be a new competitive deck but it's pretty lol
My favorite card from the set is kaslem's stonetree. Yes the vanilla creature. A little upset it didn't make the list. But I get it. I know it's not really a good card.
You look alot like my old best friend from Wauconda Illinois. And we get the commercials all the time 😂. I freaking love mtg but unfortunately I can't bring myself to support such a horrible run company. Sorcery Contested Realm is old mtg and I'm all in. Good video
Gotta say a lof of your jokes dont land for me (in the way that I dont quite laugh or giggle, I still find them funny), but the randomness and comedic timing on the Jadelight stuff made me lol haha (probably because it was shorter than usual)
Deep root pilgrimage could’ve just made Kumena infinite if not for that pesky nontoken clause :/ also I feel like I see that commercial more often than I should. “Jade light repair” better not have a copyright on it by the time I build my kumena deck…..
Does that mean you love the soothing sounds of Devs vids and that helps you sleep? I'm confused why anyone would listen to descriptions of old cards on repeat. Please explain. Is Joke?
I am from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, my friend works for safe light we all say it all the time. its not even funny anymore its just a part of our everyday banter.
