Thank you for these videos! I think you're making these videos just for me 🤣🤣 just kidding... Golden Wonder are a beautiful, definitely a lovely option. You really have a beautiful pleco😍. I got three bristlenose while I was away and I never realized how much fun they are to watch until having them in a group 🤣💞 Every time I see apistogrammas, I already know that they're going to be a fish I'll be putting in my new aquarium! I have a lot more to learn about the types that I can choose from. You have provided some great videos for reference!! BTW You know I have never seen rainbow fish personally... only on RU-vid. I have actually kept angelfish and raised fry from them, one fish I've had with actual hand on experience 🤣 so for this 33 I really want to have an awesome Community tank! I love apistogramas and you have named some suitable beautiful tank mates!! I also love the wild bettas and still need to research if that could be an option to put together? Thank you so much Blake I hope you have an amazing weekend I really miss seeing you early on Father Fish. I know your new job and daylight savings time has changed things but nonetheless still miss you!! You are truly one of the best RU-vidrs around!!!👍🌿🐟🌿💚
Hey Mary yeah its been a rough week with everything so I havent been able to catch any of those streams all week. I feel the pain too 😂. Thanks as always for your lovely comments, have a great day
I was curious about Apistogramma, Angelfish and Bristlenose Pleco combination as these are some of my all time favourite fish. I know plecos and angels just ignore each other but great to know that apistos can live with them ok too
Great video blake! I love these options and am looking for top dwelling tank mates right now. Would you say that most of these options would work with a pair of apistos as a form of birth control - with the knowledge that fry probably won’t make it? Thanks for your insight!
Thanks blake! I’ve had 3 spawns with my trifasciata…i love all the babies and thats partly why I have hesitated getting a schooling fish. But, maybe I can breed the apistos separately and not in the display then 🤔 How do you manage ur feelings with the fry being eaten? 😅😭
Ive got 6 Bolivian rams with 2 pairs breeding regularly or whenever i do a "larger" water change in a 60 gallon tank with 4 checkerboard cichlids 2 4-5" royals 1 2-3" flash pleco 1 3" green phantom 5 juvenile 1-2" l180 4 ancistrus claro 6 corydoras sterbai's. So far the eggs "nesting site" has not been raided in the night an the fry last about a week after hatching till the parents can no longer keep track of them an they do get picked off by the other rams. I am highly impressed that they can fend off that many lil sucker mouths for the few days the eggs are attached an unhatched. I love dwarf south American cichlids an plecos. Dont get me wrong i like the big fish too but my dream is to have a huge 4-500 gallon high tech planted aquarium with nothing but the smallest south American species. Long comment sorry.
Awesome then I did it right I have a pair of Apistogramma agassizii tefe red back Living with spotted blue eyed rainbow and red neon blue eyed rainbow.
My list would be more like, Ember tetras, otocinclus, endlers, pseudomugil, and pencil fish. Also I'd recommend having a sandy substrate in area's so they can filter it for food.
They might eat their young, but I have had Aggassizii and Macmasteri with Embers (as the smallest) and they work a treat, great dithers. Also only heard good things about black neon tetras
Endlers would be horrified to be living with Apistos, you mustn't have tried it yet to even say that. I'm an Endler breeder, they're a very mild, peaceful and SMALL FISH. Their babies would be eaten before you could blink.
Can I do a 10 gallon (38 L) for apisto? The dream is a pair apisto and a few small fish like tetras in a planted tank?? Willing to be species only tank if tank is small and worse case willing for 1 apisto with the tetras instead.
Just introduced 5 honey gouramis into a 30 gallon tank containing my apisto male. The apisto is not liking it and chasing the poor peaceful honey gouramis away. Hoping things will settle down in a few days but not looking good. Might have to build another tank for the apisto.
Hi Blake, I've a 20g community tank with Cory's, purple emporer tetras, honey gouramis, 2 Bristlenose, and a Siamese Algae eater. Would a couple of male Apistogramma's be alright to add?, Cheers Mike, UK
Late to the vid but I’ve got a 36 gallon bow front, my dream fish is a dwarf gourami but I’m really liking the Apistogrammas, would it be possible to do dwarf gourami, Apistogramma of some sort and pleco and maybe some schooling fish, and if so how many would you recommend? Preferably Apistogramma macmasteri, if that’s possible?
Its very possible, the pleco is prpbably the only thing of concern from that list but its a very low concern, just make sure you have multiple caves at the bottom of the tank
@@BlakesAquaticshe’s currently in a 10 gallon, he’s getting big for so I’m hoping to upgrade him to the 36 for maybe a couple months, eventually he will go in a 140 but till then the 36, I’ve also never seen him aggressive, would you do 2 apistogrammas? Male and female?
Sorry this is a bit late here, I've got a 55 gallon 2 foot tank, Do you think you can keep black ruby barbs with apistos. Black ruby barbs are quite gentle and nothing like Tiger barbs. According to tank position, they will swim above apistos.
I have a 30 gallon. I have 2 small angels (I’ll move them out if they get to big) And 2 rams Can I add 2 appistogrammas or will they fight with the rams?
How about a good dither fish like pencil fish? There must be some other better options for a top-list than "give it a go and see what happens" and "for the most part it works".
Pencil fish would still come with a warning that for the most part it works... cichlids are cichlods and can vary a lot in personality when ready to breed. These are just 7 examples and I wanted to suggest things outside of the usual ones like pencil fish
24 is still a very versatile temp for a lot of fish. Pencils, most tetras etc still are fine. Maybe pearl danios would be a cool option with blue to compliment the yellows of the borellii
I had a pair in a community tank that were terribly bullied by angel fish. They were very good to each other because I think they had to stick together out of necessity. I have a new pair and they are very different. The male is terrorizing the female to the point where I had to remove the female from the tank and put her in another tank because she was turning blackish and getting injured. She is better now. Any suggestions on how to get these two back together again? Or should I just keep them separate permanently. I like to keep fish in pairs but now I have 2 lonely fish. Any advice is appreciated.
Hi Blake, I have a question, which apistogramma is the least aggressive when breeding. I have a community tank consisting of cardinal tetra, cory cats, rasbora and a male betta. I wanted to add a cichlid to the tank but just wanted to do some research before the purchase. Cheers 👍
I put two ramirezi with my European bread endler guppys (witch are born and raised in softer water) to control the population. How risky does that sound to you guys?
Generally it's not recommended unless you have a large tank scaped to allow multiple territories. You might be able to do only males, but if a female is in the mix they'll pair up and destroy anything they perceive as a threat, such as other Apisto's. Join dwarf cichlids australia on fb ;)
@@RadioactiveTurtle88 I've got a 55 gallon mixed apisto including opal bireli, cacatuoides, hongsloi, viejita heavily planted. there's alos a few rams and angels and also some guppys. From my experience we have no issues provided plenty of cover, rock ledges, and caves.
Hello mate, I have a couple of Ramirezis for 3 months. Then I also have a male Apistogramma Borelli, do you think I can put other cyclids like apistogramma agassizi or catatuoid together? Would it be better to have different males with my ramirezis partner so they don't breed and get aggressive during mating?
I keep guppies with apistogramma. The apistos eat guppy fry and a great food source for them. My water is acidic and my guppies have been breeding for years and probally become acclimated to the lack minerals over the generations. I pull the guppies when the female has a cave of eggs.
I disagree with this list.. the only fish you name that would work best is the kerri tetra. Best tankmates are small tetra species and pencil fish period
