yup the beat em ups were looked at as sort of passe by 95. Double Dragon in the late 80s was the heydey and streets of rage and final fight especially capped it off.
The Japanese versions of Double Dragon I, II & 3 should've been developed by SNK as smash-hit reboots for the Neo•Geo MVS & AES. But instead, the company in 1995 turned Technōs' arcade blockbuster into just another random and generic Street Fighter II clone, but also inspired by the live-action flop. Seems like SNK didn't learn a lesson after seeing the horrendous Double Dragon V.🙄
