Interesting tid bit. I did a soil test and sent the same sample to 2 different sources. I got a different PH, Phosphorus and Calcium numbers. When asked why, they said they have different procedures to test. So heads up. Do a video on that. Send the same sample to 4 different sources including your local extension office and show us the results. Would make a great video!

one nice thing about a spring seeding - even if it nearly all dies off in the summer - is that it will get some life in the soil; growing in organic matter(down in vs just top dressing) with lots of root pathways that another fall seeding can use, and those will help with soil compaction, aeration, and water retention over hard dry 'dead' dirt .....at least that is what happened to me last year, as I had to put something down to cover the dirt; altho it didn't do well thru the summer, when I redid it in the fall things went extra good in then better soil

Hey Ryan. For your comment about dethatching too early…one thing I worry about is putting fertilizer down to get things growing and then 2 or 3 weeks later doing a dethatch. Should I wait for the first application of fertilizer until the dethatch is done? Worried that gets too late. Cheers

Ah thanks. I was going to de thatch but i'll wait until fall probably this year. It's tough to get the timing down on the pre emergent, especially now in the northeast with 55 degree days and 20 degree nights. But after you said it's not going to control certain weeds anyway, the pre emergent may not even help my specific issue anyway! I've got this one spot in my yard that has creeping charlie, or clover looking weeds that NOTHING seems to kill. The spray stuff i've used on it, even round up, just turns it yellow and it comes right back.

Snow mold, it’s everywhere! What’s the best way to take care of it in the Spring and how can I prevent it in the future?
@fettyguapo
@fettyguapo Год назад
Get out there with a rake and rake the spots where there’s snow mold. That will let the grass under it breath and get some sun. Just mow it off, it’ll be fine. This year before winter comes mow as short as you think you can go. Don’t scalp it but have it nice and short. The reason you got snow mold is the grass was left too long during winter so when it snowed it just folded over the grass and keep it from drying out and caused the snow mold.
@JasonLestage
@JasonLestage Год назад
@@fettyguapo thanks, I raked it out last year and it recovered eventually but it was a lot of work. I only had it at 1.5” both years since my reno. I’m thinking it might have to do with the type of grass and my climate. Grass stayed very green right up until snowfall and it’s RPR which I think might be a little prone to it. Hoping to find a preventative

Great content like usual. I renovated my front yard last year full KBG. It’s looking good but takes time as we know. When is it warm enough to spray Speedzone or any herbicide for broadleaf weeds that grew when the ground was bare before seeding? Also, is it even possible to have grubs this time of year? My backyard wasn’t dethatched last year due to my front yard focus. I used a handheld dethatch tool for some areas and the grass itself came up like carpet in some small sections. I definitely saw a worm but it might’ve been a grub. Is this even possible?

I am in South Carolina and tend to till it with a tiller as it has gotten pretty hard and I know I cant just toss the Bermuda grass out on top. Is there anything else you would recommend to just get this grass growing that wont break the bank. Thanks

Thanks for all you do Ryan, I am wondering if anyone knows what I should do about a growth issue I had from last year. I planted a fresh yard from scratch and it originally came in and after about the 3rd mow, I noticed one area really thriving it was only about a patch the size of a large sewer cover. I used a soil test kit and did a very even spread along my yard. I wish the rest of it filled in as well as this spot did. I have no idea how to boost the rest of the soil to make this look right thou. my dog tears thru the yard in a path but this isn't anywhere near that either. I'm hoping this second year of growth will shine thru. I may put Ryan's Shade Fine Fescue since I didn't realize how little light I get in this same area.
