I don't understand why some people say that. He's been always mentioned as a one of the best in popular music. He's been always recognized for his fantastic groove and timing. So why is He underrated ? The only thing is that he disappeared from public after Freddy passed.
It's incredible how, with Queen, it's often necessary to re-listen to the songs and focus on the different instruments separately, because each one is so good that it overshadows the others. 'Tis a pity that John's bass-lines are often overlooked or unheard. He was a genius, like all of them.

Top 10 bassists 10.fieldy 9.lemmy 8. Bill ward 7.paul Gray 6.john deacon 5.paul McCartney 4. Les claypool 3.john Paul Jones 2.geddy lee 1.victor Wooten
I see Deacon as a magician of bass but also the man knows the very root of his craft. A bassist in all meaning. Also his music is very beautiful, very honest.
Great examples of John’s bass lines. Those melodic runs he did were part of the Queen magic.amongst his many catchy hooks my favorite one has to be the Millionaire Waltz. Deaky just lets it rip in that one. One of the most criminally underrated bassists ever, thx for giving him props.
Please try John Deacon’s Liar bass solo, it’s amazing , and in Dragon Attack Also he has many great bass lines in Queen’s album ‘the Miracle’, such as Invisble Man, BreakThru etc

My fave John bass moment is from Liar, particularly live at The Rainbow where he does a little solo towards the end of the song just before Freddie sings "All day long"
I know that the lines are perfect but I believe that trying to find a "muddier" tone would really help to connect more with John Deacon's Sound. I find this extremely sharp and brith, something that never occurred with Deacon's Bass Sound along Queen Discography.
i think it’s important as musicians to incorporate your own sound into even someone else’s work. similar to how when a singer does a cover, they don’t try to emulate the original singer (or at least shouldn’t)
Deacon is so underrated, i play bass because of him ! But i have a serious problem with the placement of my fingers, because of that i can’t play faster and very good :( I don’t arrive to put my fingers like everybody do
Do what the guy above me said, also, when practicing people tend to fall into a trap where they only play the bits they are good at. Make sure you FOCUS on the difficult parts.
While you may be playing some of Queens mod popular songs, only about half of them included some of John’s best bass lines. Those are actually in most of Queens least played songs.

Love the effort. But John recorded and played live mostly with a Vintage Fender and the tone was very different than a Music Man. I know because I was the Bass Guitar Tech for one of the Major Bands in the 70's and mid 80's Great Playing by the way. I also have a Sting ray and a Bongo and love them.
Can anybody tell me what bass this is and what color it is? I have seen a few people play these and I am considering getting one myself. Also love this man💪🏼
This video should be called: Most famous basslines. Because they aren't the best that he made. There are a lot of not know songs that have beautiful basslines, like ogre battle
Everyone has their own way and technique to play, Remco Hendrix is the most obvious example. However, some technical gaps risk compromising the final result. In "A kind of magic" you can't play the main riff using only the index finger of your left hand, you have to open your hand and use the four-finger technique on four frets, otherwise you go out of time. Under pressure is playable fingerstyle, but the fact that your right hand plucks the strings without your fingers stopping on the string above, makes it lacking in groove and push. And this is also heard in many of the other songs. Maybe you are self-taught, but I recommend that you try to correct these technical defects, otherwise they will be your big limitation. Then there are some differences compared to the original sheets, maybe you transcribed the sheets by ear? Finally concluding this long series of criticisms, I must say that there are many other spectacular bass lines composed by John Deacon that are missing here, in a top10 maybe you could get a few more. No hard feelings, I'm sorry but I'm used to saying what I think! Keep playing!

Well it depends how much time and effort you put in. If you practice every few days for 5 minutes at a time, you won't make much progress compared to playing for 1 hour everyday
Nice playing but your tone is way too thin and metallic. John has a deep rich and smooth bass tone from the 70’s. You’re using that 90’s metallic sound and it just doesn’t work. Plus you have tons of fret buzz!
