I moved from Davao City to Cagayan De Oro and I love it here. My Condo fully furnished runs me 200 USD a month. The weather is fantastic we just started the rainy season and the cool breeze that blows in from the ocean is refreshing, the night life is amazing, very modern malls and restaurants the people are so friendly.

In the Philippines it was $600.00 US a month for everything just extra if she needed meds or had to go to the Hospital and they had 3 nurses on staff 24/7 and one caregiver for every 3 seniors So yeah you do have nursing homes there and damm good ones to .. @@melaniemoreno9595

My wife and I have a house in Silang, Cavite because I enjoy the province life and she likes to be close to her family in Meycauayan, Bulacan where she likes to be with her family at times. I like it where we have a house because it's not far from NAIA, close to malls, close to Manila, close to many tourist attractions, close to hospitals, not too far from Batangas and many other things. The only draw back might be that the house is about 12 miles (19km) north of the main crater of Taal. I was at the house during the eruption of Taal on January 12, 2020. The house got covered by volcanic ash and there were numerous volcanic earthquakes caused by the eruption. Even though there was a lot of shaking going on with the house there wasn't any damage done to it. This has done nothing to make me want to move to another location.

I have been visiting the Philippines since 2014 and currently retired here. Cavite is very hard to get to from manila and has crime problems. Baguio is very crowded, and when it rains (which is 3 monrhs of the year) roads will be closed to Angeles. Davao is very hot and humid almost all year long. My choices would be Iloilo, Cagayan De Oro and third that is not on the list would be Puerto Princessa, located in the most beautiful island in the world.

@alexonorep5978
@alexonorep5978 Год назад
Do you think it's the Thailand govt that developed these beach fronts? No they're foreigners themselves who invested and beautify these which in turn attract more foreigners. Yes its good to pinpoint the poverty problem of the Philippines but helping by investing will do more since more capital will be poured into the country instead of old issues which most Filipinos knew already. Retiring in the Philippines is already a big help but investing that will employ more Filipinos will be much more appreciated.

@@MrEric2196 Logic? Of course it's all about funding primarily the relocation of these poorly built houses which originally are fishing villages. Every list I've ever seen published shows only one or two cities from the Philippines in the top 20 most affordable cities in SouthEast Asia. Personally, I love the Philippines and there are many advantages living there for a Westerner including the use of English everywhere and a very westernized culture compared to other countries in the area. But it is THE most expensive country to live in if you compare it to Malyasia, Bali, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. The reason for this is the return of OFW's (0verseas Filipino workers) returning to their nest after many years of working and saving money from working overseas. This has driven up the price of property substantially. As well, condos are quite expensive because many Koreans are retiring there and driving up the prices. In many cases, buying a customized home in or around a big city will cost you more than the home you purchased in the U.S. A western foreigner could not possibly feel comfortable living in the Philippines for less than $1500 U.S. per month. That would include your rent in a basic well-constructed home. The good news is that you can still build a home in the Philippines at a reasonable price. But purchasing a home there is an entirely different matter. The infrastructure (getting around by land or air) is substandard compared to Thailand, Malaysia and Bali. This has improved over the years but still has a long way to go. It is a great place to retire and the people of the Philippines are wonderful but this video sugarcoats the economic reality of living there.
@algrand52

Not gonna lie, I don't want our cities and provinces over-run with foreigners/tourist. Not a racial thing. One of the reason why our beaches and many islands remain as pristine as time allows is because of the lack of tourism. Not a fan of the gov't's drive to boost tourism, in all honesty.

I would want a place between a city and province. Have the best of both worlds, I want to go shopping, I can go to the city, I want peace and relaxation I can go to the province. But even more important would be, as few foreigners as possible. With their ego's, constant complaining, belligerent drunks, etc. it would take away any peace, and how are you going to take in and learn about the Philippines culture if you're just hanging out with other foreigners.

Both choosing that spot simply because that’s where there wife’s come from . TheyAge 66 and 61 , both are not fit and healthy my first priority would be access to proper Medical facilities . It’s a fat lot of use having a home pretty much in the middle of nowhere, until you need significant medical assistance , Hospitals . Or am I using to much common sense . I visit Cebu City a lot ,2 times so far in 2023 . Foreigners don’t appear to be a problem . The locals are fantastic , so for me the City every time .

The voice in the video is fully computer synthesized and mispronounces various locations. The video clips do not show a realistic view of the cities. The monthly cost of living seem to be rather random: $600 for Davao, but $1200 to $2000 for Bacolod. The differences in prices are not actually that big between two such cities. Electric supply reliability and water quality has also not been mentioned. Local budgets will mostly depend on rental prices, home cooking or eating out, transportation by private car or taxis, shopping at the markets or malls as well as air-conditioning and probably entertainment. Locals can certainly live reasonably on US$600 or less per month and on a per person basis we need to live on much less than that. But pensioners will also need to consider the following: cost of visas, cost of medical insurance and treatments, possibly cost of household help and regular flights.

I am a semi retired American married to a Filipina. When in the Philippines for a short visit, I enjoy it more indoors, like the malls. I hate the heat and humidity day and night. I do not like traditional Filipino food so I end up cooking my own. I hate the traffic with smoke belching jeepneys driving in and out of traffic and stopping every few seconds. The taxis cut in and out of traffic and no traffic enforcers. Then, the tricycles driving erradically. I'll say this, the people are very friendly and the senior citizens get special privileges. Still, I would not like to get sick or need hospital attention. One more thing. The paperwork is redundant and unnecessary in many cases.
