I loved it also. Such diversity in one park! It must be great to live there, with such quint towns and such beauty right there! Mountain, rain forest, coast, ferries, all in one place.
I didn't know what to expect before visiting Olympic. After visiting, I love it. It has such character and a mystical quality to it, not to mention the diversity.
Don't hesitate to see it! It's a big, scenic National Park! Research well before you come! Plan alot before you go! It may rain in the mountainous areas but the coast may be clear? This is a place that has sensational beauty! I came here many years ago! Much more to see here & within 200 miles, on land! Don't miss the other parts of coastal Wash, the islands, (Victoria, Vancouver, & Vancouver Island, British Columbia) & Seattle, plus the Cascades! The car & visitors can use the people ferries to get to & from Vancouver Island! Don't forget your Passport to Canada! You'll like these places!
Been walking these beaches myself for a long time now.I get a sense of calm and self retrospect every time I walk these sands. Your video was great. Thank you. I mean it ,thanks Still walking.. ,
Keep on walking! To be able to walk a the beautiful beach at Olympic is great. The driftwoods just adds character and the scene is a lot more interesting than some of the beaches with nothing but sand. These beaches are great for walking. I wonder how it is for swimming but based on the temperature and the large waves, I suspect not.
Thank you. I am visiting my daughter and the family in July. I took down notes from your video, great notes and going to use them when we go. I subscribed because we are also visiting National Parks on our trips. Thank you again.
Yes, parts of the visit was sunshine but parts of was in the rain. Fitting since it was raining when we were in the rain forest part of the park, and sunny when we were at the coast!
Really nice photography in spite of some weather challenges. If I were to make a suggestion, I would say to tone down the music, especially when you are speaking. Good job though and a beautiful place that I hope to visit this fall.
Most if not all what you are calling "Old Growth" when describing trees is not old growth. Most old growth trees are 4 feet in diameter or more. Their are some in the Staircase area or if you want to see a lot go to the Lewis River Trail. Nice video!
Great video. One of my favorite National Parks, very beautiful. As well as Yellowstone and Glacier. I got plenty of my videos and slideshows of national parks including this one on my youtube also.
Olympic reminds me of Yellowstone, in the sense that it's very diverse. Just like Yellowstone, where there are multiple "features", Olympic also has a lot of variety, from the coast to Hurricane Ridge to the rain forest.
It's amazing the diversity of our country. When people from the west comment on how green my home state North Carolina is, I'm always surprised they found it pretty and interesting - and yes, we have plenty of pines here! Of course, when I say how pretty the red rocks are, people from Utah probably think what's the big deal. I'm just thankful for the diversity of scenes in our country!
The Olympics has got to be one of the more difficult Parks to see. Other that Hurricane Ridge and Deer Park the only way to see it is backpacking. There are no roads through it. Basically everything you see from Hurricane Ridge has no roads. Staircase is one way to the main trail. I remember going up there in the 80's and you would go 3 or 4 days and see nobody. Traffic is or was gone after about 5 miles in.
To go into the back country at Hurricane Ridge requires skill and hiking ability. You are right in that once you get a bit on the trails, you won't see many people. However, the other parts of Olympic (like the rain forest and the coast) are not hard to visit.
Does the snow provide an obstacle in driving up to destinations like Hurricane Ridge? Thinking of going in April and am a little concerned about that aspect as we are not used to snow down here in SoCal!
At Hurricane Ridge, it can be a problem. We went in early June and there were still snow on the trails, but not on the road. Other parts of the park should be OK.
At least three days. One for each of the regions: Rain Forest, Mountain (Hurricane Ridge), and Coast. One more day gives you the Southeast side of the park. That is if you don't do a long hike
Camille Belamide yes, you can drive up to Hurricane Ridge. I don’t remember how long it took but it wasn’t long. Maybe on the order of 30 min. There is a ranger station at the parking lot on top.
Hoh rain forest really isn’t worth it. You see the exact same thing on other hikes in the park, don’t waste your time. Cape Flattery is the place to go if you want breathtaking views with a short easy hike.
Black bears are common in Olympic so you have to be careful and know what to do. See this for some official information: www.nps.gov/olym/learn/nature/black-bear.htm Pumas or Cougars are also present but they are not seen very often. There is still a risk. See this site for details: www.nps.gov/olym/learn/nature/cougar.htm
Laura Stewart Yes, there was a natural hot spring by the river that was a short walk from the parking lot. We soaked our feet in it but there were others with bathing suits enjoying the hot spring.
