City Overview:-
Dholera SIR is located in the Gulf of Khambhat region of Gujarat and is located 100 kilometers and 130 kilometers respectively from the key cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The region is also close to important Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Surat, Rajkot and Jamnagar.
Dholera spans 920 square kilometers of which 567.39 square kilometers is developable area. The region is envisaged by the central government as two time the size of Mumbai and six times that of Shanghai. To contain the rising economic activities within DSIR and provide support to the surge, a comprehensive plan has been designed to ensure that it is well connected to rest of India and on global front through every mode of transport. Dholera location also plays a vital role in enabling such connectivity at ease.
The following transport modes have been planned for the smart city:-
High speed metro rail - Metro rail shall soon connect Dholera to Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The metro shall also link Dholera to the international airport and serve as a mode of easy linkage to important places within Dholera.
Six lane expressway - The city shall be linked with Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Vadodara through a six lane highway which shall initially be developed as a four lane highway and then by extended further as per future requirement.
Railways - An extended railway route is being planned that shall connect DSIR to important Indian cities.
Port - Dholera is situated at a mere distance of 11 kilometers from proposed port site via Ahmedabad - Bhavnagar highway.
Dholera International airport - 1,700 hectares of land has been set aside for development of the international airport, 20 kilometers from Dholera.
