@@timstradley5819 Because he was the last real boss of a family on the street whereas all the other 'bosses' were either doing life in jail or acting/street bosses. The Bonnanos ducked the Commission indictments since they were booted by the other families after the Donnia Brasco fiasco, and that in turn allowed them to build themselves back up to be one of the most powerful families in the 90's after Gotti and Chin went to jail themselves. So by the early 00's, Massino was called "The Last Don" because he was a real deal sitting boss of a family still holding court, and then being a piece of shit he is, he rats on the people below him which was totally insane. Usually you rat and give up people above you to save your ass, this guy took a deal and put the people under his leadership in jail for doing what he ordered them to do. Nobody calls him "The Last Don" anymore especially now that he's finally dead.
A lot of guys in that life who interacted with Fat Tony all said he was hilarious and a consummate stereotype of a mob boss in the best way. The man was a real character.
So did Carlo Gambino. He had a hollow, high pitched voice as well. He had a heavy accent too. Don Carlo also never cursed or insulted anyone; especially women. The guy who played him in the Gotti movie on HBO (that you can watch on here for free; which is one of the most accurate depictions of that life and the characters portrayed in it) the line where Paul Castellano and Neil are arguing about wether to kill Gotti or not, and the guy who’s playing Don Carlo says, “There’s no need to curse Paul…” actually used to hear him talking like that to people in the life and wasn’t apart of the script. His mannerisms, the way he blinked, the way he talked with his hands, the way he’d kind of look like he was mumbling to himself- and talking to himself prior to giving his opinion on something; was EXACTLY how Don Carlo would talk in a public setting… which onlookers would mistake for someone being “squirrely” as Joe Bonanno put it; was him bouncing around ideas in his head and thinking hard before he’d make a decision. He was extremely wise; he was shy, and always wore a soft smile in public. He was also extremely well mannered and showed respect to everyone he interacted with. He’d tip his hat to black and Puerto Rican people in public which was believe it or not, very uncommon for Italians to do. Especially in that life. Anyways that acting in that movie was down to the fucking Tee. My father, both sets of my grandparents and my first real girlfriends father all knew him and stated the things I stated. My mothers father was actually good friends with him, Dellacroce and Carmine Fatico aka Charlie Wagons. Hell, My grandfather was good friends with Fat Andy and knew Albert Anastasia’s whole family. Albert Anastasia had entire separate family in New Jersey; which a lot of people never knew. His other wife was mixed. She was half black half Sicilian. He had 4 sons and a daughter with her. I wish my grandfather would do RU-vid videos. He’d had a massive following. He ran with goons from the Luchesse and Gambino families and was pretty tight with a couple Genovese guys too. He’s almost 100 years old and as sharp as a razor mentally. I
@@zitiboylilo5789 Very interesting, Gotti (1996) is one of my favourite mob movies, because of how true to life it is and as a big mob history buff that goes a long way. Your grandfather sounds like a stand up guy, I wish you and your grandfather good health
From what I heard and read Fat Tony was a funny and good guy. He was hilarious when he was asked if he had any comment when he was sitting in the back seat of the Feds car and his response was “Yeah,go fuck yourself”. LMFAO!!!
Tony Ducks "ducked" subpoenas. Anthony "Quack Quack" Regerrio had a big mouth like a duck and talked all the time. He talked on his daughter's princess phone about pushing heroin.
He was in his mid 70s when he got convicted and ended up serving 6 years of his sentence before he passed away. I don’t think he was ever really concerned about doing much of the time lol
Bro I been saying that since for ever how could they let those tapes do it I honestly think they should have got rid of those tapes it also should be grounds for an appeal in state court they would have had a good shot at getting rid of those tapes but the didn't want these Old guys to slip away on them smh
And now everyone just posts their finest, clearest pictures. And we also carry a state of the art recording device in our pockets and wear them in our ears…even better.
It's insane how intricate Chin Gigantes rule of the Genovese family was. He never let people ever say his name they would just point to their chins when referring to him. And he had a fall guy Don in Fat Tony who was at the end of his life anyways and willing to take the fall. Not to mention Chin faking nuts for 20 years.
The ruse worked so well bc Tony ‘Fat Tony’ Salerno was the Boss for a short period before Chin. He had a stroke and retired, turning over the Boss position to Chin. After 6months-year later Tony became bored and missed the action. He returned to being active and took the FrontBoss position. Which was both clever and convenient for Chin being that The FEDs truly thought Tony was still the actual Boss. Regardless, Fat Tony had a tremendous amount of power and respect.
@@josephsierzengaIV Yup I've seen the footage of Rudi Giuliani talking about how "Chin thinks he's the boss but he's just some crazy guy they let think he's boss" he had even Rudi fooled who took down everyone as you know.
@@jamesmccullers9916 And why live that life as a monster acting crazy just to avoid jail but you’re home all day in your robe pretending, you can’t even enjoy the money because you have to act crazy. To me, it wasn’t worth it, he was better off taking the money and running from the law.
Salerno was still a heavyweight and respected gangster in that life, he just wasn't the boss. He still ran a lot of the day-to-day duties, settled problems, and commiserated with other bosses on the Commission. One could say Salerno was more of a street boss while Gigante was the big boss who made the final decisions, approved hits, and ran the big picture particulars of the Genovese family.
Ofcourse he wasnt just a street punk. They’re not gonna make just anybody the face of the family. However to imply that he was “more in the steets” than the chin, you must not know the true history. Chin was one of the most feared and cunning gangsters to ever live.
Let them get very old and mobing 50 years and them at 80 get them at the court.. Funny haa.. Same Court used to gave 20 to kids with bag of weed or little gun without ammo
Why does these shooter today shoot at each other at a party! , playing in the courts, people sitting on the bench? Why? The old timers shoot to gain Status, power.!! ?
