Some notes on the Solden Jacket: it's supposed to be an active jacket for winter, something you wear while doing vigorous activities like a hike, which is why it's not insulated in the back (having a backpack press the down would make it useless, and this also helps making it more breathable). If you're moving a lot in winter, it is more than warm enough, and it's also thin enough that it allows you to layer some heavier jacket on top as soon as you stop being active.

Exactly and something else, these jackets are supposed to wear them with a sweater underneath and not with a t shirt.

Great points about the waxed Bond jackets! I wear my Barbour Bedale with a wool fisherman’s sweater under it, all winter long on the stream, and the waxing really keeps the wind out, and keeps me toasty warm!

Snowing here in Staffordshire England and its also snowing in Pennsylvania USA three thousand miles away....that's one hell of a snow cloud!!!! Dig the Four Seasons coat David...and the beard!!!

Awesome video David! As someone who has worn the BR peacoat in cold canadian weather, I have to say your video is spot on. In my experience, with proper layering (merino wool/cashmere sweater and gloves), that coat is at best sufficient for -10 to -15 C (14 to 5 F) in extended period, any colder a down parka is more ideal. I've been holding back on getting a RGT jacket because Ive already own a barbour wax jacket but seeing your high praise in multiple videos is now giving me a second thought :)

This was definitely a fun and informative video. I have the peacoat and agree with your findings...I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who thought it was a pretty good winter coat 🤣. personally I never gravitated towards the other coats you reviewed . When it comes to coats I’m more of a FYEO and OHMSS kind of guy 😉 hope you had some hot chocolate when you got back in 🙂

@The Bond Experience brought a frugal Spectre solden jacket yesterday, and you were not kidding in this vintage video. Looks smart and stylish for sure, but oh boy, really doesn't keep you warm and toasty for long, especially in our colder UK winters.

enjoyed the video and have two bond peacoats, one in navy and one in blue herringbone and I really like both of them . However, it is not a warm coat at all. As pointed out, it has no lining and at night the cold goes through it. If the temperature is in the forties at night , your are going to be cold, especially if not actively moving around to get your body heat up. To me , it is about like a wool sweater but no more. You will need layering pieces to keep warm, but beware that it is a snug fit if you are buying to put a sweater on under it. My navy peacoat is cut closer than the herringbone which definitely has more room and is much softer. They are beautiful coats and have a flattering fit if you are somewhat in shape in my opinion, it is for cool weather and not cold. Just my two cents worth in case readers are considering the temps the coat can be worn in.

Dear David, this is a fantastic video. My stand out favourite Bond winter coat/overcoat is...... the one Roger Moore wears in Live and Let Die exiting the airport in New Orleans. It's a navy blue covert coat and the epitome of timeless. Do you own one? If so, your a very lucky man it is truly beautiful.

Fantastic video, David. However in my own way, I have road tested a few jackets. I have worn my Barbour Jacket in torrential rain, cold, and it kept me warm, and dry. I don't have the Billy Reid Peacoat, but I do have the Royale Filmwear replica, and I have found it to be very warm. I also have the Solden Jacket Royale Filmwear and I have worn just a t-shirt under it, but I have been very warm. Can you please do winter jumpers next. 😂

We NEVER had snow in England like the dump we just had in NY/PA, but growing up I practically LIVED in a Barbour (they were a uniform for the horsey/farm set) and surprisingly they were exactly as you described in the cold. The wax coating was nice because it repelled the water and a lot of other coats tended to get pretty damp and cold when it was wet (and, adopt Robbie Coltrane accent, "do you have any idea how long the rain lasts in England? Tell him, Dimitri!")

Cool video (no pun intended), however Gore-Tex is a waterproof membrane, not something that provides heat insulation (as its primary function). It would be interesting to see how you find the jackets after some activity. I’m thinking the wax jackets might seem warm, but they might not be breathable.

Nice! Any suggestions for handling rain like Bond? My current solution is Skyfall Barbour Jacket with umbrella. Would Bond even use an umbrella? Or would he just take the rain? Shoe options may be useful too for really heavy rain if you or anyone has suggestions.

Great content but some of those jackets fit poorly. Barbour in particular terrible on the shoulder too narrow and torso buttons are pulling.

The Tom Ford jacket was not supposed to be work outside, on the contrary the context of the scene is that he was wearing it indoors and jumped outside - after he beat up 3 security guys and shot one in the leg- to save the girl. The Ford jacket is exactly what he was wearing it for , indoors to chill for a drink , possibly walk out to the balcony for a cigarette but not spend the day outside.

Your wax Skyfall jacket is, at least, a size too small. You are supposed to be able to wear more than a t-shirt underneath. Oh, and the Tom Ford jacket is more of a sweater than a jacket.

I enjoyed this review, but it's a pity that all but one of the coats on show were connected to Daniel Craig. I would have liked to see more reviews of coats worn by other Bond actors. In particular, there have been some really stylish overcoats worn by previous Bonds over the years: the double-breasted navy blue overcoat worn by Moore in Live and Let Die, and a similar coat worn by Pierce Brosnan in Die Another Day, for examples. However, I know it'd probably be difficult to get such items today in order to do another real-life, standing-out-in-the-snow experiment, so maybe it just isn't feasible.
