The breathtaking performance of Ivan Vasiliev; my favorite. Amazing!Mathias Heymann is such an elegant dancer; very nice looking. Thanks for this video!
When I was 6, my mom took her Girl Scout troop to see the Royal Danish ballet with Eric Bruhn. They did Copelia. I still remember it nearly 70 years later. I was hooked. Sal Hurok used to bring the Bolshoi or the Kirov to Detroit every winter and the Royal Ballet every summer. I always got tickets for Christmas and my birthday. We saw Baryshnikov and Makarova before they left the Kirov. We saw Nureyev and Fonteyn. Then Hurok died and they didn’t come anymore. When I was 18 I moved to New York and waited in line for standing room. Then I moved to Dublin for school and would go to London during ballet season.now I live in a small town where the ballet never comes. You Tube just isn’t the same but it beats nothing.
In a very hyper muscular way which is typical of old Bolshoi and that's now rare today. As far as classical repertories are concerned his style isn't one fits all.
Beautiful collection of master dancers! Thank you so much! I enjoyed it! Of course Ivan Vasiliev is so powerful compared to all others. And of course there are many other great names like Sergei Pollunin, Carlos Acosta, Rolando Sarabia, and many others. But you could only include the ones you like the most. I am sure it was not easy for you to eliminate many other great dancers. Thank you for this work!
Marcelo Gomes needs to be included on this list. He's such a strong presence with terrific technique. He's a great stylist and every ballerina wants to be partnered by him.
Oh yes, Polunin, extreme homophobe, huge fan of Putin, and generally ignorant human being, who believes women should be put in their place, literally underneath a man.
@@laurencinmarie4556 He WAS, but he doesn't have much interest on hard classical training to maintain his level anymore, because he has other priorities.
I am by no means a dancer nor do I know anything about the Ballet but this is an astonishing feet of athletic skill and hard work. The strength, balance, endurance, power, gracefulness and coordination they possess! My calves and lungs burn just watching this haha.
JUST A SUGGESTION: Put up a list of the top 15 "Ballet-Masters". Those who compose and arrange the dance themselves... Dance bosses such as George Balanchine, Peter Martins, Martha Graham, etc.
Иван Васильев и Кимин Ким харизматичны, артистичны, легки, высота прыжков, точность движений, энергетика, скорость, техничность идет рука об руку с эмоциональностью, искры летят!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍😇😇😇😇😇😇😇❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
Apart from Nureyev & Barisnikoff,Irek Mukameduv is the most magnetic male ballet dancer ever! Watch him in Spartacus & Mayaling. Wow!! Carlos Acosta comes close.
Where is Edward Watson? His jumps may not be as high as others and his turns may not be as tight, but he has the most beautiful lines. His flexibility, musicality, control, grace, and acting makes him my favorite dancer of all time.
Hey, BalletGirl, I loved this collection. I think maybe you should think about a #16: António Casalinho. He's Portugese and set to conquer the world. There's a video of his academy's "Giselle" on YouTupe. He made me cry in Act 2. The guy is 17 and he made me cry because he *was* Albrecht. So many male dancers stun with their superb technique, so much so that one can forget that they are - usually - supposed to be a character. And the character is often missing. (Well, why complain when they knock you out with unbelievable technical excellence?) But this young man, at 17 -- and also dancing beautifully -- actually made me cry because he WAS who he was supposed to be. Have we found the Callas of male dancers? I hope I live long enough to find out.
Shell Bell yes, but in the title it says that these are the best. She should mention that this is her choice, because no matter what, Polunin is among the very best. Whether you like him or not
@@mathildewesendonck7225 you obviously can't read very well. She states quite clearly that this is HER OPINION. If HER OPINION doesn't included certain people or includes dancers others don't agree with it is tough because it is HER OPINION. Do you expect people to respect your opinions or do you let them force theirs on you? Smh. 🤦♂️
Polunin was very good but doesn#t train that intense anymore, he does other thing, own ballets etc. And Hugo marchand ist sweet and good but maybe not that expressive ?
@@sabalight2558 This is your personal opinion and it is clearly biased, and you absolutely do not have information!)) 3 months ago, I personally attended his speech and there is video evidence of this, but I think you are least interested in them ☝! He's in great shape!
Good choices but you are quite right - these are your choices, wonderful ones, but my list would be somewhat different but no one is disputing YOUR CHOICES; they are all extraordinary dancers. Adore Muntagirov dancing GISELLE - Thank You .......... Lopatin in LA SYLPHIDE - Thank You ........The utterly amazing ROBERTO BOLLE (from my birthland) in SYLVIA - GRAZIE Great, Great artists performing in all time favorite classical works; I would be remiss not to give a shout out to Vasiliev in a glorious, thrilling bit from La Bayadere. Everyone has his/her particular favorites who also happen to be among the very great. I'd be too chicken to make a list of 15 for fear of leaving someone out!
Sorry but a list without Sergei Polunin is not a proper one. Also check Corales from National English Ballet. If you see him on the fight scene of Ackram's Gizelle you will defanetely put him on your list.
k a y l e e This is the one dancer being mentioned by others I can agree with. If I'd seen him in nothing but Winter's Tale, I'd still say he's the most passionately dramatic danseur currently dancing. That ballet is a complete tour de force for him. But his technique is also excellent. This may be a case of being what I've heard called a dancer's dancer? It takes another dancer to appreciate how excellent he is?
Thank you for the video, and the time you put in it. Obviously, some people (quite oddly, to me) fail to recognize (1) that this video was put together for pleasure, as a hobby, and it is NOT a decree dictating what YOU MUST think; (2) that it requires a lot of effort; (3) that it reflects one person's personal opinion; (4) that this is a great way to introduce these artists to viewers who aren't well-acquainted with ballet yet, but are interested in it. Plus, I thought that ballet was supposed to be an elegant, graceful form of art, so what the hell is with all this fanaticism? By no means does a person have to share your views about matters of arts. Perhaps, next time, you might offer your OWN PERSONAL OPINION a little more humanely than this, guys. And, again, CAN'T YOU FREAKIN' READ? The list consists of ballet dancers WHO STILL PERFORM. PS: I just love Vyacheslav Lopatin, so it made me really happy to see that you share my opinion:)
This is not a 100 metre dash in the Olympics, it is an art form. All the rants about who is best or ‘the winner’ completely do not understand this. These are all great artists, having their own style and strengths.
I understand that this is one persons opinion on the best male dancers to ever exist and I dont whant to take anything from them but how is Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, or Sergei Polunin not on this list
I'm so glad you included Vyacheslav Lopatin! He is definitely an amazing (and underappreciated) dancer! It's SO exciting that he was finally promoted to principal yesterday!
Thank you for opening my eyes to other ballet dancers, I found some quite phenomenal. I understand that this is your list of your favorite current (2017) dancers but for me no one will ever top Misha.
Royeston Dsouza , maybe if you had read the description you would know why they are missing. This is HER choice of CURRENT ballet dancers, not past dancers.
I feel that Roberto bolle could have come in slightly higher as he has great athletic form in ballet and. is a very expressionate performer also what about Irek mukhamedov a truly great dancer with amazing acting abilities /miming skills. Ever seen his role as Prince Rudolf in the 1994. production of Kenneth Macmillan's original masterpiece Mayerling however all of he performers/dancers were exceptional in that especially Viviana Durante as Mary Vetsera.
Suzanne Moogan, I have the DVD of this perf. Talk about a "state occasion" cast! I don't like the ballet all that much, but the performances were brilliant. Always like Muhammedov---brilliant dancer, and when you saw him interviewed, he seemed unaffected by his deserved fame in the ballet world. I wish I had a copy of his Spartacus!
@@judithbereczky4114 Spartacus of course but j like very much his " Tchaikovsjy pdd ' with Darcey Bussel , it's very beautiful to see a viril man in dance not always in this work !
I’m not sure who came up with this list but you can’t list the top 15 male ballet dancers with not including the two best of all time Rudolf Nureyev and Mikail Baryshnikov.
Not a dancer, but I made the mistake of watching Barishnikov's solos from The Turning Point before watching this video, and so was waiting to see dancing of that calibre. The only guy here who I though approached that was Vasiliev. That being said, this was clearly a list of current dancers, not the top 15 of all time, and I also like the guy in the kilt and the last guy, who I thought was really expressive/showed a lot of personality.
Glad you included Steve McRae. He is a very coloured dancer I would say. Exactly like RBH repertoire. Not Russian at all, but not that far from the norms as Americans are. Brilliant technique, but witha touch of flavour.
As am I, but when I watch him dance I'm reminded every single time of a clockwork toy. His technique is brilliant, his line lovely, his leaps and turns nigh-on flawless. But he has no passion! I once saw a video of Bolle dancing Manon with Sylvie Guillem. Since then, I'm afraid the expression and the passion simply *must* be present or I'm not interested. Bolle is my current favourite and so far no one comes close to engaging me in the ballet as he does. :)
Nureyev's flamboyant lifestyle, courage and choreography obscured his singular brilliance in marrying contemporary dance with academic ballet. Very famous but underrated as a pure dancer. He moved like a panther while maintaining the highest standards of the classical Kirin technique. The best ever.
I think you make great choices ...its wonderful that you follow new dancers but also acknowledge that some dancers ...e g Baryshnikov and personally I think Nureyev cant yet be surpassed :-))
Ivan has no weight, his lightness of touch with every aspect of his body adds an ethereal aspect to his performance...he is oblivious to the audience, he does his best to be who he is trying to be as performer, and he achieves... Bravo
Leonid is my all time favourite!!! He is technically flawless, an incredible partner to dance with and his interpretations of roles are always on point!!!!
Hey! Of all things, you left out the number one (1) male ballet dancer of all times! How could you not remember Nikolai Tsishraridze? I suggests you take some Prepergin. This will revive the memory cells!
Robin 2000 he has a large number of fans who disagree, I think. He is a superb partner. And, like Fonteyn in her time, he seems to be exactly where he should be - that is, at home - at all times, doing what it is first nature for him to do.
Wow, do you mean living only? If so, where is Baryshnikov? Sergei Polunin? If dead, Where the heck is Nureyev? Girl, you have a few things to watch before you make lists like this. I found your female list a little lacking as well. Where are Zakharova and Misti Copeland? Please research this a little more, and it won't hurt much either. You'll be on a voyage of enjoyable discovery!

10:58 very impressive but I am sad Nureyev even not mentioned :(
Thank you so much for this! Was worried McCrae wouldn't make the cut (I didn't read your list)--he has such a great personality. Heymann is so elegant, and Vasiliev is so . . . Vasiliev!
Wow! I looked ahead and you & I both picked Steven McRae as our favorites. I adore him with Tamara Rojo! Sometimes you give the title of the ballet & sometimes the company they're with.! The more info the better, I guess. Thanks for all your work.
yes you are f... right. this list is a fucking joke. How in this fucking world are you gonna make a list of the best ballet dancers without the cuban ballet dancers. there are at least 5 cuban ballet dancers better than almost every body in that list. so you people have to see more ballet.
In my opinion, Sergei Polunin should be in first place. His technique and his interpretation of any choreography are of a higher level than any other dancer.
His star has risen yet is still rising. SP is a dancer for this generation. He has an impressive digital output and social media presence. But I have not known anyone to see him dance live? May I ask, have you had the pleasure?
@@Kaytecando I have seen him live. His own work. It was a bit heart breaking. He clearly needs the discipline of a company environment to keep his technique honed, to stretch him to perform at his best, nothing else can do that. It seems a bit arrogant to assume otherwise. He did dance take me to church that night though, the only night in the whole run.. that was a pretty special moment. (Though again it seems arrogant to deny 6 of his 7 audiences that week!)
Of course this is the list of your top 15 dancers. I wonder why you didn't considered Daniil Simkin, Polunin, Isaac Hernandez, Osiel Gouneo or any other cuban dancers?. David Hallberg Should be considered in much higuer rank i think and Bolle, is beautiful, is an living sculpture, but not as a much as you ranked him. Of course is only my appreciation. Great list. You can have 30 top dancers and still missing some ones.
Raulishnikov Dancer I have just seen David Hallberg in Romeo and Juliet at The ROH in London, and he was outstanding. I am not surprised that The Bolshoi offered him a contract in 2011.
