Woodsman Whitesmith I just go to the Dollar Tree or Walmart and buy some black poster board for $1 a piece and just use clear box tape. Obviously paint is more official but at least you can remove the poster board if you wanted.
That's a really nice tank like you I'm not crazy about the lids I bought one of those exact same makes but a 36 gallon bow front for my axolotls I did the same thing with my filter for that with the sponges and the filter floss however the lid I didn't like so I went ahead and basically cut it in half and put hinges on it so that you can open it front and back it came out perfect
I set up the same set just over a month ago and in the past couple weeks I've added an Eheim Classic 350 and replaced those horrible cartridges with coarse sponges. I couldn't keep the nitirites down with just that HOB, but within a day of adding the canister (and a bottle of Tetra SafeStart Plus to kickstart the new media) ammonia was back to zero and nitrites were about .12ppm. Yes, I'll admit I'm a bit of a newbie and in my excitment I probably overstocked the tank for its stage in the cycling process... BUT, even ignoring my inexperience, those cartridges are still a waste and the floss on it clogs up very easily. Those leds are nice, but way too bright IMO. I purchased a dimmer switch on Amazon and turned them down a fair amount (but still really bright) and I added two 11.5" blue led bars (that are also on dimmers) that are suction-cupped to the lids just outward of the handles/feeding holes as moonlight for a couple hours after the main lights go off. Btw, my tank was actually the second one we brought home as the first one was seriously cracked right under the plastic lip and was obviously returned. Thankfully we caught it before adding anything, but just make sure to check those babies over carefully before setting them up.
I can't believe how gorgeous that TF is. I own a 10 gallon from them and it has endured some major abuse within 4yrs. That price for brand new is phenomenal!
I recently purchased the same set up from Petsmart about a month ago, the heater that came with it had moisture in it within a few days so I took it back and they let me exchange it with a Eheim Jager 200wt heater. I purchased glass lids cause I didn’t like the plastic lids, and the filter is pretty good for a starter HOB, but I’m gonna purchase a fluval 307 for it as I like how a canister can be modified to my liking and use the HOB that came with the set up as a back up . Over all I like the whole set up and it wasn’t to expensive as it was on sale for $150, I did have to build my own stand only because I never trust those press board stands that they sell for another $150, and I spent about $35 for all the materials including screws.
Just so your aware the Top Fin tanks. Are rebrand Aqueon tanks. They are suppose to be a newer line they make. But i have heard of tank failures by them. So im not sure if its the seam sealer they use or not. But thicker glass is nice.
Would like to see u set up the same 55 gallon again. I just bought the Topfin 55 gallon for 99 buck on sale. im running 2 Tidal 75s on the back giving 350 gph on each filter. liked when u had the 55 set up.
They are! 💯 I have the TopFin 29 gal and its has just one hood with the same led unit you saw in the video and I'm growing Amazon Sword and Jungle Val in my tank no problem! 🇺🇸🦅👍
I have a flowerhorn fry and was wondering if this would be a nice sized tank for them, long term (don't know the gender yet). Ever since then, have you moved your flowerhorn to a bigger tank? Or will you move your flowerhorn to a bigger tank in the future?
@@AppleGalaxy23 recently moved to Oklahoma and petsmart had a sale for i believe 50% off starter kits and then i ordered it online for pickup so got an additional 15ish% or so off. Couldnt pass the deal up
People talk shit on Top Fin tanks but I'll take a tank with thick glass over a tank with thin glass any day. You don't need a heavy center brace with a thicker glass tank.
Great tank. I have a 20 gallon Top Fin tank and I gotta say, my water is not as clear as yours. I have 10-gallon Aqueon and that water is way clearer compared to the Top Fin. I really am hoping that I didn't get a bad tank.
Firstly, I love Ragnar. He's gorgeous. Sounds like he has a big personality. Maybe your daughter could write a book about him and publish it... I have a huge Shubunkin and humungous sized Comet that I raised from feeder fish that I rescued. I bought this tank online at Petsmart today. I went to pick it up and then order a taxi van to get it home. At the store I tried to lift one end with the sales guy, and I couldn't lift my end. It's like a ton of weight! Sadly, I had to abandon the tank and wait until I can get two strong men to come with me the next time. I came on line to see if I could find out the weight of the tank empty. Any idea?
It is a great deal on combo kit. I like the tank but hate the one piece lids. I have to remove the lids when I put my hands in the tank .. Water on the lids drips everywhere .....
The only problem I experienced with my 55 gallon starter kit was my light got broken during a water change and they do not sell replacement lights or lids
Why do they make these tanks so tall and narrow? It needs another 3+ inches in width and doesn't need to be so tall. The stands they make should be starting at 40".
Did you ever have any quality issues with this tank? I have heard so many people who have had issues with top fin tanks leaking. The thick top fin silicone does look super clean though, especially compared to Aqueon's garbage quality tanks. Also, when you say the glass lids didnt fit.. Did you use ones made for a top fin 55 gallon? Each tank manufacturer generally has different dimensions on top, which is why they are generally not interchangable.
Now if you remove the filter slot where you place the HOB's can't you place those back in? We tossed ours by mistake and have been asking around because we bought a canister filter and those areas and evaporating water.
do you guys think this will be fine for a turtle tank setup? my red eared slider definitely has outgrown his tank i feel like this is a major upgrade for him
at 3:46 what brand of filter floss is that. also brand for black sponge? also how often do u clean them and how? do u use of bucket of dechlorinated water?
4:05 where y buying this spunch and white materials for filter? can y give me a link plz? and how many time needed to take a new ones spunches to the filter? Ty so much
Hey so I bought this same 55gallon topfin set up like 3 years now, the aquarium light adapter clicker is not working well now its heats up almost like burning immediately when turned on and lights are dim. Cant seem to find a replacement adapter for it either. Can anyone please help lol. It's a live planted tank so I need light asap
my guess is that the brace is thin because the glass is so thick. if you ever get some of the really old tanks that are 29-40 gal, they don't have center braces like current tanks have, but they have much thicker glass. thicker glass is more resilient to bowing, so the brace doesn't need to be as substantial.
Did u experience any crack in top fins aquarium? Cause in pet-smart review, some people said that it cracked after many months. I just bought mine one month ago, and over all its okay.Just scared that it will crack.
I need those same lights but In different color. I can’t find them anywhere. I want to use the same tops that the tank came with. Any idea where I can find them? What are the exact name of those model lights?
I just purchased this same tank but my heater stopped working and I had to replace it and that one stopped as well. Do you know what would cause this??
When you do water changes NEVER let the water line go below the heater. This can cause them to malfunction. If you place them horizontally in the tank, below the half-way point down, you should be fine.
You’re going to need a much bigger tank for a bala shark. Over 100 gallons. Those things get huge. No sense in buying a 55 now to have to buy another tank later. You’d probably be better off with a 40 breeder for now since it’s more deep (height doesn’t matter) or even a 75 gallon since they are deep as well. 55 gallons are skinny and tall, not very ideal for large fish. Just some advice!
I bought the same tank set up. But I changed everything. I put 2 Tidal 110s, Hygger 48" led light, and Vivosun digital heater. If you fill the tank past the black trim it will warp the top and the tops won't sit straight.
