Lovely clip - the medal should be on loan to a museum with a description/tribute to his dad's career. It's too important to be tucked away in the lockbox, and while the medal is valuable/gorgeous, his dad's story is the real historical gem here.

Im talking about how 36' was the first year basketball was included. which the US took the gold. It's historically significant and worth millions. IMO.
@Geographus666
@Geographus666 7 лет назад
I get that, but historic significance sadly does not always reflect in the price of an item. An item is worth what people are willing to pay for it and for items like these, what people pay big money for are the great names and stories. The bigger the name and the greater the story behind it, the higher the price. That is why a beat up, partially burned guitar played by Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock is worth several millions while a much rarer and more historic significant guitar in better condition is only worth a fraction of that. And even though this medal has historic significance, barely anybody knows that Basketball was played for the first time in 1936, yet alone that the US won gold or the names of the players. When people hear "Basketball" and "Olympic", they do not think about 1936, they are thinking about the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and the Dream Team. But what everybody knows about the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin are two names: Adolf Hitler and Jesse Owens. That was by far the biggest story of the 1936 games that overshadowed everything else and that is what people are willing to pay big money for. And that is why this medal will most likely never come even close to be as highly priced as Owens.
@dece4547
@dece4547 7 лет назад
like the history of basketball being created and perfected to a point where it was accepted into the Olympics. Who's gold medal winner was the country that invented it. And is now one of the most popular sports in the world. Plot = 10/10 Price = 2.2. Million
