I’m related to this guy (uncle) and trust me he didn’t sell them, he also has a safe full of rare rookie cards/signatures that are worth more than these jerseys. When you think of true baseball fans and the pure “love of the game” , that’s him. Ridiculously humble!!! (He was an ELITE prospect himself out of High School) but he would never tell you that because he’s the nicest person you’ll ever meet.

I was offered Yogi Berra Yankee Jersey from 1979 the year Thurman Munson died and it had the memorial black armband sewn on the sleeve. It was professionally mounted under glass and had a letter with it on Yankee Club stationery. I foolishly passed on it .The guy wanted $1,000.00 for it. Cheap in retrospect... He had tons of stuff, seats, turnstiles, bats, signed baseballs and rooms full of other stuff. Beckett Media bought a bunch, but I did but his Thurman Munson single signed ball and a few signed bats he had

Sounds to me like he might have been in with that famous sports memorabilia counterfeiters in history. I can't think of his name but his stuff was so goid there's still some that passes for the real deal. The certificate was the only way they can't tell if it's his or not the certification paper. I'd be willing to bet if he had that much stuff it was fake

Yes, she does. ARS is my favorite "series" on YT and so much of the appeal to me is the people, the combination of the appraiser and the owner and their combined "chemistry," especially at the dramatic peak - the revelation of and reaction to the valuation. Those are more important to me in how much I like a particular segment like this than the object being appraised or its appraisal value. With those, the ability of the owner and appraiser to "bring the item and its maker/designer/artist to life" with their combined stories is another key part of how much I like it.

Whitey Ford, Tony Kubek and Enos Slaughter were eating sandwiches in a cab parked at the clubhouse in Grant Park located in South Milwaukee Wisc. in October of 1957. They were in town to play the Braves in the World Series. My two 8 yr old friends and myself (also 8) had been told there were some Yankees eating lunch up by the clubhouse. We went in and all got golf score cards and those little pencil stubs that golfers use to mark the cards. We went to the cab and I looked in and all three were eating their sandwiches and without thinking that I was interrupting their lunch I said "can I get your autographs"? Enos Slaughter sitting next to Whitey Ford in the back put his sandwich down and said "sure thing kid". They all signed, we thanked them, and we left. Instead of being angry about being rudely interrupted by kids while they were eating, they were happy to oblige and unlike todays ballplayers didn't ask for a dime even though they weren't making much in the pros back then. They really don't make them like that any more.

Why is she saying it's been worn and altered like it's a bad thing? I mean it's a jersey worn by legends....isn't that what you would want instead of some old jersey in perfect condition that you would not be sure if the player ever worn it
@ccggenius
@ccggenius 4 года назад
Did you actually WATCH the video? The guy has the jerseys because he was clubhouse boy for the minor league team that the Yankees passed their used jerseys to to save money. If it was altered it would have been so it would fit someone OTHER than the person driving the value of the item.
@falconward6757
@falconward6757 4 года назад
It's all about the crazy world of collectibles - each type or category of item has different "rules" for what the collectors want. I used to be a dealer and collector and even then, still never made sense of it all. Because there really is no common sense or logic involved - it's purely based on what someone will pay who really wants something. At a certain point, the only "logic" involved is expected appreciation and re-sale/auction value at the time the collector would want to sell it. The other part of the "illogic" is pure ego - collectors want the top "bragging rights" for who has the most desirable and expensive collection. That even includes museums who are competing against each other for prestige, and as a result, donations from wealthy patrons. No real logic to any of it - you just have to jump into the market and kind of "sense" your way through it rather than reason your way. For a dealer or appraiser, so much of it is based on prior or "comparable" sales, kind of like the real estate market.
