You can't have a topic like this with a bunch of people that are trying to save relationships in the industry, because they'll never tell the truth out of fear of losing industry relationships.
Yeah you can't ask people in the industry this. You gotta hit the streets and ask regular 9 to 5 people. They not gonna miss opportunities or get pulled up on if they name the "wrong" niggas.
In addition to that......who was the stupid M.F. that had the AUDACITY!! to try to put Ludacris name on the list. They trying to put Birdman in the mix......clearly they never listened to a Big Tymer's album, or the "Like Father, Like Son" album that he put out with Wayne. Birdman wasn't the best lyricist or the best rapper outta Cash Money or even in the South for that matter & Mannie Fresh was more of a producer than anything but the 2 of them still came together & smash the game with those Big Tymer's albums & gave us some of the best music the game has ever heard.....Still Fly, Get ya Roll On, the features that they did on Bling Bling.....Classics
Facts. If its just bars 21 savage, lil rease, OC, lil yahty, the stupid kid at the end of migos "bad and bugjee", Easy E (r.i.p), Dru down, puffy, lil nas x, birdman, and so many others. They just afraid of saying ppls names.
95 % of the mainstream rappers today I consider Garbage. I grew up in an era with rappers like Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Chuck D, Ice Cube, LL, KRS-One, NaS, Biggie, Pac, The LOX, Outkast, Black Thought, Guru, ect. and most of these current rappers either say nothing at all that is worth listening to or don't even write their own shit!
If you're starting with Rakim, then you missed The Funky Four Plus One (Sha-Rock, who DMC got the echo chamber sound from), The Treacherous Three...etc. That Era was crazy!! The R is still the GOAT though.
That was a painful listen. Every body shouting over each other. Soon as one person say a word, 30 dudes jump in at the same time shouting at the top of their lungs. Dude with the Mets hat on is the absolute worst
@@joeymodesto4843 sales doesn't mean good rapper. Vanilla ice sold a lot of records does that make him a good rapper? No. I'm sorry but, Silk the Shocker is grade a 🚮🚮
I felt the same way about Yachty when he first dropped but I will say this: He at the least worked on his craft and became better. That joint w/ him and Tee Grizzley Yachty stepped his rap game up. And he was cool on that Duke Duce Crunk aint Dead
@@Syte425 agreed. When I first heard him I thought it was the worst sht ever. Even worse than Soulja Boy. But he got better. But when you're as bad as he started it's not hard to get better 😄
Sounds crazy, but i get what hes sayin, for instance, just because you can put big words together and make m rap on a record ,it may sound good but you really aint sayin , nothin, no cadence, no song structure just words
@@shuaibfranklin8134 and a rapper can ask another rapper for 16 bars on a feature and it may have none of those, its still 16 Bars Clown...and it still may be good
I used to be the main one saying "so and so" is wack. I've realized that it's all subjective. Every rapper or musician doesn't always connect with everyone's ears.
@@Axafekt Carti can't rhyme. Juelz has a pretty high rhyme density and solid bars. Nore is a solid rapper, not a top tier lyricist but not wack. Cart just vibes and makes noises over hard beats.
Yeah that never made senses lol but juice still my nigga he had the streets on lock tho when he came out with make the trap aye he never claimed to be lyrical i mean dawg was a street nigga who happen to rap.
He mentioned dave east. He lost me there. This convo all over the place. Yall said guys names who cant rap but had good careers. Then you mentioned dave east a guy who can rap but didnt have a career as big as some of the guys like Soulja boy. The guy suggested east didn’t sell big numbers as a basis for him to be considered as a trash rapper. It dont make sense.
Exactly and these conversations often shifts in that direction, the topic gets lost and so you have people arguing that someone like Solja boy not only did he have a good career but he is also a top tier skilled rapper.. I don't get it
Math I have mad respect for your podcast.....and even your talent...bro don't hold back when you talk about these types of topics....This is about hip hop and its culture....Fuck what ppl think!
The only way a youngin would fit on this show is if he is in tune with back in the day hip hop. He would be out of place like hell with these old heads if he wasn’t lol
@@rontilghman9177 you can have nice lyrics and still be trash . Do you know how many Eminem inspired lyrical rappers there are that are trash . Your cadence flow delivery and style is equally as important
We need to quit this whole “different tastes for different people” narrative when referencing wack rappers. Duh. Different people gravitate to different things. It’s a fact of life. But if I were to pick up a guitar right now and just randomly run my hand over the strings, making horrific out of tune noises, you’d objectively look at me and say “you’re wack. You can’t play guitar.” Which would be true. In rap, you use your voice as an instrument. Sometimes it’s a drum; percussion, etc. but you use your voice to accompany the beat at the end of the day. If you’re a master at your craft you can bend the rules all you want, but if you can’t even rap on beat to begin with, then you’re wack and can’t rap. Simple as that.
Nice way of putting it. I would agree. I hear that a lot music is subjective well yeah the actual song but nothing subjective about hearing someone rhyme on beat and knowing if they are skilled or not. It's usually pretty clear and yes it's whack rappers who are successful. Whack rappers that ppl buy their music, go to their concerts, stream their songs etc. My personal favorite whack rapper is 2 Chainz although recently he claims his next project will be of the lyrical nature so maybe I will have to give him a new title in the next few years. We shall see.
Terrible analogy … not even the same.. you are comparing sounds to Words.. this Would be great for producers..singers etc… but the closet comparison to rap is poetry and that’s so subjective just like rap.. an Amateur poet can shake a Room.. there is no notes to hit or Need to Sound in tune
Damn. Im a casual rap listener and I thought this show was solid from the few clips I watched. This conversation changed my perspective for the worse. 💯
@@thatguy2.09 niggas be having hits. Industry jus dont flood us with his songs . Being underground is a thing. Think about how the radio and RU-vid algorithm work they force wat dey consider a Hit down our throats.
@@andraefomby2854 NeVer heard of dude. There are plenty of 🗑 Rappers. My list is Rappers who are WeLL Known, SuccessFuL, and TrasH at The SaMe DaMN TiMe! 😂
Some of them is confusing being good at rapping with being a good artist. If you can't rap well but you make lit music and you influence people then you a good artist but you still not a good rapper. That's like calling someone that dribble the ball well, is good at passing and has great defense a good shooter even though they can't get a basket. We talking about the act of rapping not overall music making.
What !!!!! Bigga died?! Smh 🤦🏾♀️ @mathhoffa you must add someone speaking knowledge like him, someone grounded in faith, he brung so much to the table
Tony Yayo, Fat Joe, Jim Jones, Casanova 2X, Fivo Foreign, The whole NY drill rap, Maino, Asap Ferg, Desiigner, Lil Tjay, French Montana, Dream Doll. I can go on & on of all the whack NY rappers who nobody riding around listening to.
Soulja boy was the last from that dance era, he was smart when he was trying get on and it worked, he had good quality hits and influence a generation, a lot that’s going today he has a lot to do with it. The early days of internet he got clowned for it but today we hail praises on it, he’s a pioneer of that and put a lot people on but that goes under the rug and til this day hes doing good business wise for himself, not many rappers after their run does good for themselves they go away you don’t hear from them, i wasn’t the number 1 soulja boy fan but I give props where it’s due, it’s the same business wise with master p back when he was coming out with all them hits and 25 albums he put out all them albums was hits and he had 80% out of 100 deal, he was the first to do that but does that get talked about whenever the conversation comes up with the rappers that now does great in business? Master P name doesn’t come up
Master P owned his label, big difference. Soulja Boy stays revelant bcuz of his social media rants not for his business deals or music. He's become the court jester of rap.
@@andrewilliams9921 yes Soulja boy has his antics and that’s what keeps him relevant and at the same time his business aspects are great but society or the media will only talk about his antics, they won’t speak on what he does in business even though he does great for himself, the media picks and choose what they want to speak on, and yes master p own the label but does that also ever come in conversation when the media talk about other people that own things? You only hear about it when master p comes on different podcast of platforms and speaks about it
The dance era is back... check out the Philly Goats... they got the young ppl going crazy... video on 7 million views in a few months... it’s mad weird though because I don’t see how dudes click up to dance
1. Tony Yayo 2. French Montana 3. Rampage The Last Boy Scout 4. Bow Wow 5. Lil Yachty 6th man - Kwest The Mad Ladd Honorable Mention- Melachi The Nutcracker
The amount of politics in hip hop is amazing, I thought I was watching a presidential debate. Future can't rap, they confusing popularity, success with being able to RAP, BARS, Lyrics. Migos, up there too. All them mumble rappers might be rich but they can't RAP, Vanilla Ice made multi millions but he was a wack rapper.
I was interested in this conversation until I clicked on it…They got too technical about who qualifies, back-pedaled and was scared to name names, even after providing the “we fuck with all, but…” disclaimer. They were all quick to settle on Silkk though, which was messed up. Easy ones off the top: Chingy, Vanilla Ice, Nature, Lil Zane, Nick Cannon, Bizarre…
Nick cannon Sean kingston Mr cheeks Lil baby Spottemgottem Chief khief Wayne Wonder T.I BIZ Markie Lloyd Banks Jumaine Dupree Disclaimer: overall to me these dudes is wack dont mean they didnt have one or two hot tracks here and there. These are people I cannot sit thru a whole album and listen too
Y'all padussy for this. Ain't nothing gonna change if y'all don't got the heart to spill from gut. Yo Hoff I think this platform has the potential to redirect some of the wrong turns our culture has taken. Soulja Boy. Hands down. I knew from the minute I heard... "B-O-O-T-Y M-E.......A-T YOU KNOW WHAT THAT SPELL BOOTY MEAT." there would be none wacker than him.
Wym? He the one that said Pusha lmaoo and he been scared throughout the vid, he pussied out from being real, love the podcast but this was weak in itself
