Chris really is revving the nuts off the accord - tickled! I would say more a competitor for 3 series than 5 series Bmw but that’s really when second hand - would say even today that the German effort has the upper hand on the new forecourt. Great upload, love the blast from the past!
Watching this because of Chris Goffey & the Lorry, Thumbnail Pic. Hino, stopped assembling in Ireland. (part of the VW Group) Mercedes-Benz (Daimler AG) Scania (part of VW group) DAF (owned by PACCAR of the USA, {makers of Kenworth & Peterbilt} based in Holland, with a Lorry manufacturing plant, near Leyland in Lancashire) Renault VI (owned by Volvo, after the French Government got sick of the financial burden. Renault Cars, Vans & Pick Ups are still owned by the French state though. Which ever party is in power, a good friend usually get the Government job of being its Chairman). Iveco (Part of the Fiat Group, made up a number of former manufacturers, including Ford Trucks Europe, Fiat Trucks Europe, Magirus - Deutz of Germany, Unic of France, Pegaso of Spain, Seddon Atkinson of Great Britain and Lancia & OM of Italy). The only other European built HGV's of any note are: Spain, has a Nissan plant that builds lorries up to a Maximum Gross Weight of 7.5 tonnes. Czech Republic, has Tatra & Avia. Finland, has SISU Auto. Turkey, has Ford Otosan Trucks & BMC.

Explain? Mazda provided full UK spec cars for the launch .Mazda shipped them out to the States and the whole international motoring press drove them. In a nutshell Top gear was just a small part of a number of British journalists which flew out to States to check the car out at Mazdas request.

After the banking collapse - in 2007 - Honda wound down a lot of production, including closing a production line in Swindon, which left the factory well below its minimum efficient output, and essentially doomed it. They don't sell enough cars to justify the amount of production capacity they have, they've also closed other factories such a one in Turkey, planed in 2019 but not completed until 2021 when the cars they made got to the end of their lifecycle. Brexit had nothing to do with either of them. During the 1980s and 90s, for moved all of its car manufacturing out of the UK in to other European countries, is that also Brexit?
The British Governments edict that new cars must be all Electric from 2030, was the final nail. The change in the styles of cars being bought as also caught out Honda. Its either a City Car (This caught Ford out too original Ford Ka, was never really replaced). Citroen C1 / Peugeot 108 / Toyota Aygo, are all the same car under the different bodyshells. Compact Hatchback (VW Golf / Ford Focus / Vauxhall Astra / Peugeot 308). Then everything is else has become an MPV that looks like a SUV / Off Roader. Its also hurt, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, who have both had to change.
So Mini sold in a tad under 5,5 million examples over a period of 41 years, quite a feat. Meanwhile, Fiat Uno sold in over 6 million examples in 12 years, and that's just the ones made in Italy...
min simply didnt suit anyone but us british, it was too small, too slow, not great economy, etc sure they had a good sales record for a british car , but due a lot to how long it was made, and which was the downfall of BL that it kept using old parts for decades.
@@jusb1066 They had to use old parts, has they couldn't afford the tooling costs of new models. Every time the Government gave them money, for development, the workers went on strike for more money.
id like to know how they get 210hp out of an n/a 2.0i Astra ??? even a standard 16v GTE only has 150 ? and a Citroen cx 2.5 GTi TURBO only had 167hp ???
Engineering. I will give you an example. GM, had reports of knocking, on some of its drive axles. The fault was traced to the ball bearings. A number of different suppliers were used. GM manufacturing standard, stated that they must be able to take 6,000 RPM. The Japanese produced ball bearing were engineered 12,000 RPM.
Rover was at the time on it's last legs. Years of abuse by British Leyland designs destroyed Rover as a maufacurer. Joining forces with Honda didn't help. Now all Rover has are the Land and Range bsdges left.
Governments couldn't stop interfering with British manufacturing. 50 to 60% of the profits made on exports to the USA by BMC were taken in TAX. So when British Leyland was formed in 1968, the cupboard was bare. Donald Stokes, was a Salesman who believed his own Bullsh!t. He wasn't an engineer and had never worked on a production line.

Good old cars, those were days of real designs and tech, not todays, todays is just ugly designs cheap engines that break down and those stupid ev cars that are just ugly and crap, new cars are load of crap, back then those cars were much relible such as hondas, toyotas, Nissan, vauxhalls etc now cheap build max they last maybe 10 years some dont even last 5 years, those cars might been still lasting in uk if the stupid scrapage scheme wasn't launched and took all the good cars off the road for todays big ugly crap cars which are made out of old ones. And loaded with stupid tech, why manufacturers spend money on qulity and good desighns and engines instead of crap technology in cars.

Why are you comparing the accord to a 5 series its 3 series competitor The legend is 5 series. This man was alway hopeless at judging where cars sat. The accords are Sierra, Cavalier 3 series mercedes 190 /c class cars never 5 series bmw. Sorry as car reviewer Chris was very poor.
