I am Mercedes fan but if you want the truth when it comes to sport .. BMW E39 is better choice when it comes to sporty style against the SL500. but Fuck them both when it comes to the 600 SEL
I'm thinking of buying this sl500 or carrera 4, well these 2 are my main choices, rest is maybe something like the s500, or 7series, but at this point the sl is my favorite

First I meant to write it long .. maybe it helps to make up Your mind. Take this advise from normal person with limited income [Salary] & Knowledge on fixing cars. you only going to live once in This life.. Not the life after death[ as Muslim believe]. Therefore, Be wise, smart & don't hole your Wallet as well. Nowadays you WON'T find a TRUE engineered car as the 90's or even the 80's. 90's were the best days when it comes to true manufacturing. I used to hate Mercedes really. My father used to be an American car man but when he try Benz he never looked back. 10 years ago I had my first car which belongs to my father that days 1984 Mercedes W126 280SE. It was my first car. my father said to me that time if ever drive a Mercedes you will never drive another Brand. I was stupid and I didn't understand what he meant. 3 years I made more than 5 accidents. 2 major accidents hitting Street lightening columns at speed more than 130 KM and other one hitting Roundabout at serous speed more than 150 KM. I made out from the car alive! The car lives too not complaining how fool and careless I was that time. Because I didn't take care of it as I should. I canceled it after 4 years [2013] while it has no problem but i was fool. Yes I faced some troubles with master cylinder brake issue .. AC .. and heating problems .. it was normal for my kind of carless that time, no manitenace at all! & crashes almost every 2 months!!!!! I just get sick of it because I thought 2000's cars are better & also because I was paying much for the insurance because my accidents history on that car. It gone to Scrap yard by 300$ !!! later I dove 2010 Nissan, Lexus, Toyota, Chevy and many cars. All of them looked stupid and fake in front of my old 1984 . I swear some 2010 cars didn't have ABS , Sun roof .. Cruse control, lather seats [the smell and feeling] that moment I knew I made biggest mistake in my life :( . I want to get it back even if i pay 10 000$ for it . I didn't find the one really worth it with M110 engine. Later on, Allah blessed me with a new job and I saved for the sweet Benz because whenever i see Mercedes on the street .. my heart start BANGING because I know what i really miss & what memories I had with oldie Benz. I study Mercedes cars one by one, read many reviews, check spare parts price as original from agnet also as the one with excellent Quality as the OEM. And i asked some advises from Mechanics as well then I just went for the W140 because i am sure by Heart and Mind .. It is the One . For my believes.. the W140 are they only ones are TRULY ENGINEERED CAR EVER MADE
I would say the older R129, i own one and god damn it is amazing, the engine is completely bulletproof, it's very rare that anything will break down and the build quality is truly amazing, thankfully depreciation hit these pretty hard, you can get a decent mileage for 15-20k.
Yes... I'm looking at a 2005 SL500 and a 2005 Corvette. The SL500 has a very very serious problem with the Automatic Body Control. The hose breaks, pump goes out and shocks leak. The fix will set u back $3000+. The biggest problem I can find on the vette is the waterpump.
I had a leaky hose and it was simply replaced without any of the consequences you imagine. In the meantime the car was driveable. A Vette does not ride flawlessly like the SL because Chevy not only gave it archaic leaf springs, but even made them out of plastic.
In spite of all the (perhaps unnecessary) innovations, the new SL is UGLY as are most of the designs today. There is nothing elegant on this vehicle. There is nothing classy. This is simply another high tech jelly bean on wheels. I will gladly keep my r107.
