Just got back from Top Gun 2. While the orchestral rearrangement gives an epic vibe, hearing this original theme in theaters was a dream come true. I'm glad they kept it, and Danger Zone of course.
Played this at my best friend’s funeral. He was an alcoholic but a great man. Every time I came over he would say, “sit down and listen to the opening scene of Top Gun on my surround sound man.” And I had, about 20 times, but every time I would act like it was my first time. Miss ya brother
I don't know which is better: the 80's original with the guitar riffs, or the new trailer's Hans Zimmer downtempo synth version with so much orchestral undertones you feel like you've walked into the halls of Valhalla with thousands of warriors saluting your entrance. BOTH! Both are great, but different.
Not underrated at all man. Steve could deserve more for his musicianship and mainly for his solo work, but he won a Grammy for this masterpiece, either he is well recognized around all the world for his work with Billy Idol. He is not a guitar hero icon like Eddie Van Halen or Randy Roads for sure, but he is definitely not underrated.
@@gnrnando88 he isn't even that well known among guitarists, that's just how it is. Most people don't even recognize his work when they hear it, for example on MJ's Dirty Diana
On March 3, 1969, the United States Navy established an elite school for the top one percent of its pilots. It’s purpose was to teach the lost art of aerial combat and to insure that the handful of men who graduated were the best fighter pilots in the world. They succeeded. Today, the Navy calls it Fighter Weapons School. The flyers call it: TOP GUN
I saw this movie when I was a little kid and fell in love with flight and planes as a result. It's the reason why I'm an aeronautical engineer 30 years later and now help build them. Say what you want about that 80s action movie corniness, but this movie made my life!
Besides winning a Grammy, this timeless masterpiece gets played at a lot of graduation ceremonies, including military ones, in many academies and institutions across the western or pro-western world. It evokes feelings of triumph and victory over challenges. Thank you for this beautiful gift.
My dad was a Naval Airman around the time Top Gun released. He loved when girls would ask him what he does and he would say "Well... did ya see Top Gun? Yeah? Well, I don't do any of that shit."
This movie and its songs were the reason why I became a fighter pilot. Now I am nearly finished my job as a jet pilot and going for more of paperworks. I really appreciate and admire the movie, TopGun.
@@danielslade8848 I wasn't even born when the first movie came out. I watched it as a baby in 94-95 and I got actual tears watching the trailer. Fucking love Top Gun.
When I heard this song at the start of Top Gun Maverick I genuinely remembered how much I loved this theme. Having it play again at the opening was just insane. Absolute classic!
Don't think there's a movie theme song this day in age that can come this close or even surpass this masterpiece. It's melodic, tells a story, and leaves a lasting impression even after 35 years. 🤘🎸👍
Same here. Got pictures of me as a 4yo wearing a pilot helmet (my dad was an aircraft technician) watching Top Gun and pretending to be Maverick. Now 38 years old, I don't pretend anymore, but everytime I hear the sound of an aircraft, I get goosebumps.
This song makes me feel like I've accomplished and gotten everything I ever wanted in life yet at the same time makes me kind of sad that there's nothing left...
I love this song and movie period. My Grandpa was in the navy during Vietnam and the ship he was on was the USS Ranger, one of the ships that Top Gun used to film. He knew some of the people who did the stunts in the plane, since they were actual fighter pilots. I love this movie and the sequel. I hope people will remember it decades to come, like people did with the original.
Starring Steve Stevens and his hair.. . He is solely responsible for the climate change with his hairspray.. . Awesome guitarist! And Faltermeyer wrote The coolest movie theme everrr.. .
Stevens is one of the greatest '80 guitarists, pure feelings, raw emotions, astonishing skill, wonderful tone maybe the most beautiful tone of the '80s. Fantastic guitarist!
@@aus80srockradio94 It's funny though. Because the romance in the first top gun worked pretty well because the two actors had good chemistry. here not so much
Not sure about the "masterpiece", but it was pretty good. I was in the first one, couldn't decide if I wanted to see this one. Yesterday (5 June) was my 64th birthday, and my wife took me and our daughter to see it. I'll admit, parts that got to me were in reference to losing Goose. I watched the first one with MY "Goose", Dan "The Man" Marchand, best friend I have ever had, or will ever have. We were both at Miramar, he in VF-154, me in VF-24. He was tragically killed in 2018, so sitting there last night watching those parts was...painful. The ending wasn't completely predictable, but appropriate.
This music doesn't just make you think about Top Gun. It makes you think of the 80's, high school friends, prom, underage drinking beer in the woods with friends, bon fires, all that good stuff.
Just saw Top Gun Maverick over the weekend and when this song started playing, my emotions took over unexpectedly. I instantly got goosebumps and my eyes started welling up with tears. 🥲 That's the power of music! ❤🎶
@@Corwin10291978 Totally understandable. It's okay to cry. Honestly, I don't know how anyone could NOT shed at least one tear during this movie! I'm just glad I had some Kleenex! 😊
Have you seen Mad Max or The Book Of Eli? The world is pointing to that direction, so in the hypothetical case we beat covid, I'm sure there will be something else to lead us to that direction. Human kind is its own predator.
"Top Gun 2", or Top Gun: Maverick is tentatively scheduled to be released on June 26, 2020. Good to see that Val Kilmer won his battle against throat cancer and is part of the sequel's cast. The Iceman cometh!
Love this, loved the original movie, saw the sequel last night and fell in love with Maverick and Top Gun all over! They paid so much respect to Goose, one of the things I loved most about the movie!
Lmao everyone is here after watching the new trailer... Gonna be awesome to watch maverick with my kids after I watched top gun with my dad!!!! Think about it guys, nostalgic af 💪
I remember the first and only time I saw an F-14.... I was an Aircraft Structural Maintenance mechanic in the Air Force, and one had stopped over at the base I was posted at.... I couldn't believe how big it was..... I worked on A-10's and C-130's at the time.... but the F-14 absolutely dwarfed both the A-10 and the F-16, both being aircraft that I was very familiar at the time. That being said, I do think it's one of the most elegant and beautiful fighter jets ever made. I'm sorry it's been retired. R.I.P., Tomcat.
So true. My only problem with the F-14 is the fact that it was the F-4 Phantom's replacement. But at the same time, it's frustrating that the F-4 outlived the Tomcat
Being from the UK, I never saw one "in person" so to speak, but I have to agree it is probably the best looking multi role combat aircraft ever designed by far!!!
The fact that it's the same theme music played during the opening credits of Top Gun: Maverick. I got instant goosebumps and it felt so nostalgic. Plus, I just watched Top Gun again a few days back.
I am, sorta, because this song is part of my childhood. Top Gun was one of the first movies I saw as a kid, on VHS back in the day and the soundtrack stuck with me hard
i remember exactly when i was a child and was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 4. of course i couldn't imagine what it would be like as a child. but during my time in the hospital, the films days of thunder and top gun ran up and down. i have such an emotional connection to these films that i still love watching them today.
Memories: This brings back memories of when I was a young Sailor reporting for Sea Duty at my first Naval Duty Station which was NAS Miramar in San Diego, CA. It was January 1985 and I was only 18 years old and was directed to report to Hangar 6 where my command VAW-112 was located. The "Golden Hawks" of VAW-112 was an E-2C Hawkeye Command of Pilots, NFOs, and Enlisted Sailors. Shortly after reporting, I learned that I would be one of the Operations Yeomen who would assist the Pilots and NFOs in the Ready Room onboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63). What an experience that was for a young Sailor like me at the time. Coincidentally, the movie "Top Gun" was being filmed later during that Summer of '85 at NAS Miramar. Btw, "Top Gun" was located at Hangar 1. Later on, after many deployments onboard the USS Kitty Hawk, our squadron then switched over to the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) which 8 years earlier was featured in the movie "The Final Countdown" (1980). When the movie "Top Gun" came out in '86 the entire San Diego area was proud and honored as there was a feeling of electricity all around. Looking forward to the long awaited sequel "Top Gun: Maverick".
Fond memories of cross-pollination between US Ships and HM Ships in The Gulf 1990-1995. Good to see ya pal. Charles "Chuck" Allsopp (petty officer retd, engineering).
One of the most epic theme songs of any movie and one of the most epic electric guitar pieces. Now there is a combination that you rarely see - electric guitar and piano.
I want this played in my funeral. No joke. I want someone standing on top of my casket playing this with a guitar. Fire works shooting out of the sides of my coffin and keanu Reeves giving a eulogy, all while a bald eagle rests on his shoulders.
Wow!! What a phenomenal movie “Top Gun: Maverick” is!! Tom Cruise, you are definitely on top of your game. I can’t wait for Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning!!
It's amazing how a piece of music, especially when it's associated with a great movie, just instantly gives you goosebumps (no pun intended) and takes you back to the 1980s... I miss that era. When movies were made because they were great, not because they are comic book characters..
Because of this score.. this soundtrack.. this film.. is one of the reasons I'm in the United States Navy.. I've always dreamed of being in the Navy. My dad served 20 years.. my brother served 5.. now I'm blessed with being able to serve my 5 years.. thank you TONY SCOTT! thank you TOM CRUISE! just thank you TOP GUN! Hooyah NAVY! Hooyah Naval Aviation.. I'll see you guy's soon up on the flight deck launching and recovering birds! ⚓❤🇺🇸🙌
