This movie is a masterclass in how to do a sequel to a much beloved, iconic movie. I also love how they took some offhand comments from Stinger when he was chewing out Maverick and Goose, and from Carole and turned Penny into a full character with a believable history and serious chemistry with Maverick. Stinger: a history of high-speed passes over five air control towers and one admiral's daughter!" Goose: "Penny Benjamin" Carole: "Goose told me all about that time you went ballistic with Penny Benjamin."

I've been reading through ALL of these comments, so surprised that nobody else has mentioned Val's real life health issue. There's a documentary, VAL, which I (fortunately) watched prior to watching TG2. It made the very brief scene with Val soooooooo much more emotional and pertinent. I really wish everybody had watched the documentary first but hope they will all see it then re-watch TG2. Oh...and also the making of TG2, which reveals that the actors were all really filming in fighter jets IN FLIGHT! Check it out y'all!

Cyclone (John Hamm) was trying to be a hard-ass Commander, but you could tell he became personally invested in his pilots when in the CIC every order he gave that required a hard decision he choked up. "Send them" "there's nothing he can do for Maverick, not in an F-18".. his voce broke both times. Very subtle, brilliant acting.

There was a lot of diversity amongst the characters, but none of it was used for an agenda. Their race, gender, sexuality, background… we didn’t need to know any of it, and they never told us any of it. And that’s how it should be. If it isn’t part of the story, leave it out. That’s what they did with TG: Maverick.

The one redeeming trait of Hangman is that he openly acknowledges when someone else (usually Maverick) does something awesome. It means that deep down inside, beyond the bully on the outside, he really just cares about trying to be the best. It's a little bit of humility that he needs to eventually learn not to be a bully. He has so much potential, but not this time on this mission.

I saw the original in theatre when I was 9. Lost count how many times I've seen it since. Top Gun: Maverick is a masterpiece and masterclass in how to do a sequel. So many throwbacks and heartstrings pulled. One of the biggest heartstring pulled, I don't think most actually picked it up. When Rooster says, "Talk to me, Dad." Yes, very emotional,, but even more emotional when Maverick responds with "Don't think, just do." Maverick has filled in as his father since Goose's death, so his father did talk to him.
@worldtraveler3773
@worldtraveler3773 Год назад
Maverick raised Rooster and he was his dad (stepfather ) "Talk to me dad " and Maverick's voice comes through...( when Mav says talk to me Goose this is followed by a deafening silence) On the carrier " It's what my dad would have done " Look at Mav's eyes when he realized that Rooster had thought of him ( Maverick earlier that day had saved Rooster life) it was father & son relationship. They ware very close when Rooster found out that Mav pulled his papers

Amazing movie, but I STRONGLY disagree with the statement that it's a "masterclass in how to do a sequel." In fact it's guilty of a laundry list of things sequels SHOULDN'T do. If the movie wasn't good or subpar, more people would realize that.

Actually, the commander is sympathetic for Maverick. They had a rocky relationship, but you can tell when he lets him be team leader he actually is starting to believe and getting excited. You can also tell that he hates to leave Maverick, but it is the only option without losing every other member as the 5th Gen fighters catch up to them. He literally chokes up when saying "there's nothing you can do for Maverick", which is amazing acting. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xCdC23QY11s.html Hard decisions, but it would be the right decision in that situation.

Both were based on original films that were iconic, yet they still surpassed the originals in almost every aspect of cinema. They both were also the definitive action films of their respective eras. Where TG:Maverick might have the edge over T2 is in the emotional impact of the film. There's plenty of tears shed by audiences watching TG:Mav, not as much watching T2. However, they are basically 1A and 1B when debating superior sequels. TG:Mav might actually win Best Picture at the Oscars. It honestly has a shot. That would be a remarkable achievement. No CG back then, everyone was awestruck and wondering how they did it so well. What is funny though, is that there is realtively little CG in the flight action of this movie as well (the rockets and explosions of course, but the not the flight action). The actor always sits 2nd seat with real F18 pilots doing the manovers so the body movement and facial stress is recorded in real life.

FYI- Penny Benjamin is the Admiral's daughter that Maverick took up in his F14 referred to in the first movie... Penny's daughter is also Maverick's...

This is a great film. It's great that almost all the flying sequences were actually real and had the actors in F18s. The scene where Maverick shoots down the first MiG was actually explained in the first top gun. Maverick explained to Charlie that he cross behind and go to guns immediately, and she said it was aggressive, then gave Maverick her phone number. So many callbacks to the original, which was very nice and a homage to all the original cast and crew. Let's hope for maverick three but, this one will be hard to beat.

This movie is one of the best of any genre In quite a while and is certainly in the running for best sequel EVER. It is one of those movies that are truly best seen in theatre because it was epic. I have nostalgia for the first one and I will fully admit that I cried openly several times and don't regret a minute of it. I'm sure lots of others have told you that the plane he was working on/the one he flys at the end is Tom's own plane and it was him flying it. Also, in a callback to the first movie, Penny is the Admirals daughter that Goose's wide says he "went ballistic with".. So yeah, they have some history. And I can say, unequivocally you had one of the best reactions and hands down the best statement with " will somebody come shoot this motherf#cker?!?"😂😂😂.

Did you get the Easter egg? When Maverick first meets Penny(Jennifer Connely) in the bar!! Music by David Bowie plays in the background, with whom she filmed Labyrinth when she was 16.

Hey J. First, love TGM and your reaction! But also wanted to extend my apologies. I've popped in and out of your channel for some reactions over the past few months. Even though I've always enjoyed them, I never really gave you a fair chance. I guess I already had my idea of my favorite reaction channels and just already unfairly passed on you. But you've won me over! You're reactions are great, you seem like a great dude, and you're funny as hell. I'm a subscriber! So again, I apologize for not giving you a fair shake at first, and I admit you've proved me wrong.... keep up the great work! I look forward to whatever is next....

For more Jennifer Connelly I suggest Labrynth and Reqium For A Dream. Val Kilmer was ill for years. He was out of acting for a long time because of it. They incorporated it into this movie to bring him back. For early Tom Cruise I suggest Legend, also starring Mia Sara and Tim Curry.

I've been reading through ALL of these comments, so surprised that you are only the 3rd or 4th who has mentioned Val's real life health issue.

I saw the original in theaters when I was 11 with my Dad who was Navy Flight Crew. I'll always love the first one, but the second one is a superior film, but it needs that first one to build those relationship blocks. Also the tech and the time that's passed has really added that parm and pepper on the pizza.

This is the sequel that had no right being as good as it is. It basically came out of left field and just surpassed all of my expectations. Honestly? Probably the movie of the year for me, no bullshit. I am super happy I got to experience it in theaters as I think it brings a whole different element that can't be reproduced at home.

The sailboat has ballast (lead weights) at the bottom to help keep it from capsizing, along with a hydrodynamic keel (big fin underneath that you can't see) to push against the water. It can't handle every possible wind and ocean condition, but it can handle a lot more than it looks like it can.
