How to fix your old cd player that won't work (top loading cd players only).
If you're like me and still have an old top loading CD player or stereo unit (combo), there will come a time when the cd just won't start (it won't read- won't play or register). You'll load the cd and it will weakly spin, but never read the tracks and won't allow you to play it. Well, here is an easy, easy fix to get your old CD player reading and working again- its a last resort, but give it a try if you have nothing to lose! (CD player won't start, CD player is broken, my CD player won't work, fixing your CD player, save you CD player)

Helpful tip... Open CD player and clean the track and , friction contact points with isopropyl alcohol... Then apply fresh lube, silicone. 3 in 1 grease to the track and contact points. ... It will be as good as new. The reason you don't want to use force to slide the CD lens back and forth is it not only can break, but also it can throw. the lens position off.

Then after you put your finger on the Lazer lens then get a cotton swab and water. Squeeze out the excess. Wipe it to get the finger prints off. Let it dry then try it.

I have a Sony Discman FM/AM that was made in 1997. All I had to is slide the lens to the right, so it could read the disc. It plays any cd I put in it. It's been sitting in a drawer for years.😅

@@me_bee_ste_1355 I may get irritated sometimes but never mad. Ipa degrades the lens over time because of it's drying it out. It also etches the material the lens is made of. Also you can use a eye glass polishing pad.

Thank you so much to save my fantastic Sony cd player! I went back-and-forth two times and then add a little bit of WD-40 to the end of a half filled down Q-tip. I carefully avoided the little man’s and put it underneath on the track to make it have some lubricant. Thank you for sharing your recipe for success. EVERYONE NEEDS TO TAKE HIS ADVICE!!! This is long but YES! YES! YES! YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! I can't believe I found you!!! I really love all my cds so years ago, even though my brain kept saying NO, I bought a Bose Wave CD Player. I know - totally insane to spend that kind of money on a CD player. It did sound great though. I don't remember when it started to give me problems by giving me the " notice of doom". I tried cleaning it, bought a new CD lens cleaner - NOTHING. Only today I goggled why doesn't my top loading CD player recognize any CD and there you were. My CDs are blasting as I'm commenting. I am so excited, happy and grateful for your advice. It is stopping every once in a while so I guess I have to move it back and forth a few more times because it's been a while since it read a CD. Everyone tells me I wear my emotions on my sleeve, so thank you so very much for the smile I'm wearing from ear to ear and for this priceless tip. Thanks for this! was recently given a very nice boombox from 1989. when i took it home the cd player would not read, but it's in great shape now! all it needed was this trick and an alcohol wipe on the lens.

Thank you, thank you! It took 2 times but it worked!!! I did it on a AWIA boombox. Then we were throwing out a TEAC CD?Radio Stereo because the CD wasn't working. I looked and saw the same lens thing and I moved it and played and it worked on this!! But, then we went to play a full CD and it stopped after the 1st song. Tried it all over again and the same thing happened. I wish I knew what to try next.

Thank you!! I got my old compact disc player to start spinning! I pushed the unit (it must have been dusty?) And it started to spin again! My unit isn't a top disc player. It's a Casio stereo music system with AM, FM, Phono, Tape and CD. The disc player is under the phonograph and radio. But pushing did work! Hooray! Can't find this type of unit any more. So grateful to you!🎉

was trying to fix my sony MHC-EC609iP 100W cd player (also plays radio and old iphones/ipods) holy shit i was ready to give up but i did this like 35 times and it worked. wiped off the lens with a tissue before i started moving it and every time i did i made sure i didn’t touch the actual lens itself, just the little platform it’s on so not to dirty it. i’m so excited right now you’re the best

had to do it around 10 times and cleaned the laser with a damp q tip, also had to insert the CD while it was in it's outer position, but it worked! thanks!

Then it was saying “no” and wouldn’t do anything. It really scared me to do this but you sound like you know what you’re doing since you did it when you were young. Great tip. I tried it on my top loader but it didn't work. I then noticed the CD wasn't spinning fast so squirted WD40 into the little wheel that revolves where you place the middle of your CD. Now works a treat! So that's another option

Picked up the same boombox for $12. Works fully, except the left channel sounds scratchy and distorted at really low volume. Turn it up, it's fine. Switched speakers, same thing. Wish I could fix it. Nice unit.

If it still doesnt work theres also grease on those tracks the lazers move on so if you apply more to it and work it back and forth that may fix it also

Your advice is pretty cool, but unfortunately, my player has its lense driver somewhere deep inside, so there is no way you can shift it so easily(

Ive tried this before n it worked..now it does not want to play. It moves but then nothing. N ive vacuumed out and cleaned the lens. My boombox is in good shape.. My deceased mom bought for me so i dont want to throw it out. My heart is broken. 💔💔💔💔 help
