Middleweight seems to me should depend mostly upon Weight. I would say any adventure bike with a ready to ride weight of between 200kg and 235kg. Otherwise we are considering middle power or middle price motorcycles.

This is the most ridiculous list I have ever seen. Africa Twin (which definitely is not middleweight) is the number one middleweight motorcycle on your so called list? Man, everybody became a motorcycle expert on RU-vid

So considering the heavyweight adventure bikes are 250kgs plus I’m happy with the AT being a middle weight.

Middle weight is less than 210 kg wet, less than 700cc. Power is whatever you can extract from it, but compatable to long maintenance intervals. Anything above these parameters verges too close to the heavyweights to be distinguishable, from them.

We can have a friendly argument about what constitutes a "middleweight" ADV, sure. As far as the rankings go, I was surprised to see the T7 rank that low, BMW F850 didnt make your cut and the 1050DE even show up. I was delighted to see my T9RP at number two! A former R1200GS and GSA owner, I've come to appreciate the Tiger's all-round terrific performance. It's not perfect, but it's perfect for me =) All that being said, the really significant take-away from your list is that there isnt a bad choice on it. They are all great bikes and we are blessed with so many excellent choices. As the Brits say "Horses for courses"...pick what suits you best and ride the Scheisse out of it.

The Africa Twin is always the answer if you want a balanced adventure motorcycle with the best reliability.

My best friend rides a 17 Africa Twin and I have ridden his and others. When it came time to replace my 2006 GS, my brain said Africa Twin (used 2017 or 18), but my heart said Tiger 900RP. I bought the RP (after a misguided detour on a 17 GSA). I still think the 1000cc basic AT is the best choice for the reliability, performance (on and off road), long distance comfort, etc. Particularly if buying used, there is probably no better lightweight heavyweight ADV bike for the money (IMHO).

Africa Twin CRF 1100L is awesome. It works. It rides brilliantly and after 10 days back to back riding across the country and back it just looks after you.

It looks like by the results that is more a top 10 for 80% road and 20% gavel road riders. Also the AT and the 1050 V Strom don’t bong to the this “middleweight” group, just my not so well informed opinion. Thanks for sharing

So here in Australia my Africa Twin 1100L has towed a 790, 890, 901, F & R GS out of the mountains when various mechanical and electronic gremlins left them stranded in the middle of no where. I owned a KTM 990 that spent more time with maintenance than riding. Yeah Honda knows how to build them to come home again. 😂 Great choice👌

Sorting and ranking motorcycles is tricky business; so much depends on rider and situation. That said, this ranking works for me - but couldn’t possibly work for everyone.
