Story on American employment. The unemployment rate was 7.9% in January, the highest rate in 7 years. Bush signed a bill giving Americans another 13 weeks of unemployment benefits. The US Department of Labor says that since the recession began 1.5 million jobs have “disappeared.” Retail sector and factories have continued to lose jobs at a faster rate. Health care jobs are increasing as American population ages.
