Kurt glad you had a nice trip and used my idea Mepp's #5 double blade inline spinner as I have always had Great luck with the Mepp's #5 single blade, Couple years ago after returning from another Canada fishing trip I called Mepp's and talked with them and I requested a double bladed #5 and they made me the very first double bladed Mepp's. So yes it was my idea. Tips for Canada Rod Bait Casting MH action 6 1/2 to 7 foot, I use a St Croix Legend Bass Casting Rod and Shimano Reel Line Berkley 17lbs XL with 9inch Berkley steel leader 30lbs. I have never had a Northern Pike break my line but I check my line after every fish for a nick. #1 Lure Mepp's #5. double blade always dressed. Blades White & Red Silver back/ white dressing, Firetiger/Firetiger, Black & Yellow/ yellow # 2 Lure. Mepp's # 5 single blade always dressed same as above # 3 Lure. Daredevil lure Red & White plus the Five of Diamonds I have also fished these with treble blade changed out to a Single hook then dressed with small twister tail makes them more weed less. Don't go to big on dressing or it takes action out of spoon. # 4 Lure Rapala original large like ones Black & Silver, Gold and Silver then paint Red Gills on lure, Perch and Firetiger are also good colors. # 5 Spinner baits use Colorado blades if you want it slow or willow blades if you want it fast, dressed 1/2oz Put on a Minnow or Berkley Powerbait Minnow Good Luck Fishing
awesome video bought a husky jerk from your last video and loving the hits have you tried the top water rubber mouse(LIVETARGET) this year? getting more seagal strikes sadly
The husky jerk will still get you plenty of fish. I think I just didn't have the right color this year. I have not tried the mouse, but the rubber frog works great as well as the poppers.
I also had success with the large Johnsons silver minnow spoons I hooked on a yellow twister tail, got a couple 4lb bass with it. I saw my friend nailing bass on a Zara spook so I recently bought a lot of 20 used ones off Ebay
You said the spinners were “beyond repair”. Don’t buy that, just a bended shaft, for 10-12 bucks you can order 100 ss wire shafts, 6 inch, loop at one end at any lure making online business. Bented, rusted, or just to replace them with a larger diameter wire, is a basic repair for any fisherman.
Hi Samuel, Thanks for subscribing! I use the Johnson Silver Minnow in the 1 1/4oz size. In 2016 the chrome trout color crushed it - but last year I didn't have the same luck - I'm going up to fish for Pike in early June so I'll post a video of what was working for me by the end of June.
Pretty much ... its a jig meets spinner with a crankbait vibration .. predators go crazy .. make sure you get the Project Z ones Let me know what you think about it !
Michael Jordon maybe I'm getting lucky but I've caught most of my pike with no leader, but then again I've never caught a 40+ / most are 10/15 inches my biggest is 29.. usually get them while bass fishing, but ima try targeting them thos year
Hi Gary - I prefer St. Croix rods - Look at the PS-66MHF 1&2 or the PC-66-7ft. also like the MHF 1&2 basically you want a med to heavy fast action rod about 6.5 to 7 feet.
I'd say get either mono or braided line minimum 20# test but you will also need steel or titanium leaders - minimum 12” long, minimum 30# test. Good luck!
U should of got the black color duck it actually works somewhat I have both colors and I also n3ver caught 1 with the yellow duck but have with the black 1 a few actually.
Lure fishing is a real game of pot luck no matter what lure you use. There is no such thing as a bad lure from any decent company. They all catch at some stage. The duck catches tones of pike on irish and uk canals in summer.
Thanks for your comment. I'm sure you are right. I'm only commenting on my personal experience using the lure. I've fished that duck multiple seasons and I've never had a single hit. That said, the manufacturer (Savage Gear) makes some great lures. I've thrown their "line thru perch" lures and had huge trophy success. Have a great fishing season!
