I’m still plugging away on mine. Rewatching this one for the 5th or sixth time. Lord willing I’ll be setting my top plate logs next week. I’m no longer on FB still got utube though. Thanks for all your help! Some day maybe I can repay!

Howdy Tim- glad you’re hanging in there with your cabin. I had fully intended to get up there and see you but right when we connected we had some serious sickness in our family which has taken a big part of our focus. That situation is quickly improving, praise the Lord. I still would like to come up your way when things settle down a bit more. So good to hear from you. I still have your phone number. Feel free to call if you run into anything I might be able to help you with. Take care and God bless y’all

If I don’t have long log, can I joint 2 or 3 short log to make ạ long log?
@TheBeardedCarpenter
@TheBeardedCarpenter 3 года назад
Howdy Hoang- yes, you can certainly slice logs to get a longer log. I use a mortice and tenon joint to do that. Hope this helps. God bless you

Like the large overhang, cabins need a large hat to last 100s of years.
@misterz2719
@misterz2719 4 года назад
Yes have been seeing to many people build them with short overhang and the logs won't last, most should be 3 or 4 feet, then u won't need gutters , I repair so many overhangs from gutters hung wrong or falling off and damaging overhang

Kevin Williams Howdy Kevin- having a good over hang sure helps protect the logs. God bless you

@TheBeardedCarpenter
@TheBeardedCarpenter 4 года назад
Open Air Outdoors Howdy Marc- l try to stay focused when working out logs but I have made mistakes before and it’s a sick feeling lol. I’ve always run Stihls and Husky saws. That 394 Husky is twenty-seven years old and the only thing I’ve had to do to it( other than replacing a bar and the plastic gas tank which was my fault) is put a new coil in it. Take care and God bless you

Not sure if you mentioned or not, but are the logs you're using green, seasoned, or somewhere in between? Just wondering on the weight your crane/hoist is lifting. Another great video brother!
@TheBeardedCarpenter
@TheBeardedCarpenter 4 года назад
The Cordless Carpenter Howdy- these logs were cut in November and December of last year and l started cutting them out after they were peeled. I had rather use them as soon as I get them because they are easier to work with the hand tools. The summer heat had surface dried them some. The hoist will pick up quite a bit of weight. Thank you for watching our videos. God bless you

Hello breaded one ‘ is building a cabin just like yours 20 ~16 ft with a slate roof ‘ I am at it nearly 2 years now with ide say another year to finish ‘ what with harvesting logs ‘ building a bandsaw mill ‘ building a chainsaw mill to do the cuts I want ‘ it is a huge amount of work and something not to take on lightly for anyone thinking of starting one ‘ but saying that it is bringing me great pleasure and a sense of accomplishment to be at it ‘ tell me this ‘ how are these big log cabin builders u have there in America able to build these huge cabins in a few days ‘ u see them on loads of videos ‘ every thing just goes together in an instance ‘ what are we doing wrong or are we being to particular in our builds ‘ love all your videos
@TheBeardedCarpenter
@TheBeardedCarpenter 4 года назад
Martin Byrne Howdy Martin- I’m so glad you are building you a cabin. There’s a lot of work that goes into doing something like that. I understand that not everyone has the dream to have a cabin but many people do have that dream. I felt l needed to share what I’ve been able to learn to help someone be encouraged to fulfill their own dreams. I think a lot of the log cabin companies are using machines to cut their logs out. They have it all cut out and put it together with a crew. Some of the companies will sell you the logs and you can put it together. I had rather do it the way l do and enjoy making things fit. God bless you with your building project.
