I've never driven a Honda pioneer 1000 or 700 in the woods, only in a field. Where I live in the thick woods of New York State the p520 is the better choice. You mentioned the specs, particularly the size. Trust me if you will not be able to follow me in the woods and that is where I ride. If I lived out west I would own a 700 or 1000.
You sound like me when I give those who ask for advice on buying an ATV or UTV. Based on hours of research, my 1st ATV was a 1993 Suzuki King-Quad (300cc) that served me well for 14 years hunting, recreation, and snow plowing. Sold it for $700 and the 2nd owner was happy w/it. The 2nd was as 2007 King-Quad 700cc that I still use for snow-plowing today. Scheduled maintenance + Suzuki = LONGEVITY. I wanted a utility side-by-side and arrived at your same conclusion: I bought a new 2021 Honda Pioneer 700 basic for $11,000 - no need for power steering. If speed and 5-forward gears is needed, go with the Talon. The Pioneer 1000 is a nice package, but not very practical considering the extra cost and very little added capability. The only thing the Pioneer 700 is lacking is a LOW RANGE gear, but that requirement rarely comes up.
You convinced me to save 8k ! I really dont need super fast sxs; I need it for utility and some trails; I dont want to go 70; for the 8k, I can get a Honda Recon old school: like me!
The people talking about the drive shaft vs a belt have no idea what they are talking about. The transmission is not drive shaft vs. belt. The transmission is a hydraulic torque converter type transmission from the Rincon. All of these machines have shaft drives coming out of the engines mating with gear differentials at the axles - even the belt driven ones. The belt transmissions in other brands are the same as what one finds in snowmobiles. Honda uses the hydro in the 700, and a dual clutch in the 1000 (and electric shift in the 520).
Nice explanation, but to the everyday NON mechanic, it’s easier to say shaft and belt . And hey both have there pros and cons , don’t get all upset of a video , and ya just that , a VIDEO . Thanks for watching
Great video! I have the same machine. Mine is a 2018 red one. We currently have 4,500 miles on it and never done anything other than oil changes and a set of tires. What kind of miles do you have on your machine now?
We bought our Honda pioneer with 650 miles on it now we’re up to like 4500 my neighbors bought a pioneer 500 with only 100 miles on it a 2020 model he’s put over 6500 miles on it and never had any issues They both have been phenomenal machines. We don’t go off Roading really with them mainly trail riding or using for utility around the yard and such.
I drove a CF Moto today and it was so loud and jerky off the start, I walked away. Very disapointed because the bang for the buck seemed so good....until i drove it.
I am looking at purchasing a Honda pioneer 700, do you think the deluxe version is worth the extra money or is the base model just as good? I know the deluxe model has the aluminum rims, paddle shifters, and the painted better autobody paint. But didn’t know if you think it’s worth the extra money
My honest opinion, no ! I never really use Paddle shift and you will prob buy new tires anyways , so get rims then if want . So I’d say save the money .
I've got a 2019 P700-2 Deluxe and I really love my paddle shifters and power steering. I prefer the shifters sometimes as you can have a little better command of the vehicle in some situations. But to answer your question on whether it's worth the extra money? Yes, if you have it to spend, if not, get what you can as long is it's a Honda. Hollerin' from Interior Alaska - thanks for the videos AZK!
Definitely get the deluxe. keep the noise level down when you paddle shift you can change into a higher gear sooner than automatic witch keeps the noise level down. Email me at adamstom771@gmail.com and I will give you few more tips.i have a 2021
I see you added Bubble Foil insulation under and behind the seat. So I assume there isn't enough engine heat shielding like so many other UTVs. How much of a problem is it? Does someone make a Cabin Heat Shield Kit for the Polaris 700?
I honestly saw another video and he did what I did , I guess it helps ? I put there cuz my son sits in the middle , but I’ve never felt much heat driving . And my son never complains after 2 hour ride in 80 plus weather ?
@@danielspencer5023 I’ve never thought it was bad ? But it’s my opinion, also so many other brands are same engine positions? So not really the machine unless u get long based utv with engine in the back ? I think it’s always gonna be individual and what they think is hot ?
@@ArizonaKid That's alright, I don't either. I know this because I bought the same machine as you and my friend as a 2008 Rincon (might be older). It's the same one. That motor is solid. I have 2500 kms put on it and it works perfect
@@danielspencer5023 top speed is in 40s but I’m not sure exactly what . I’ve changed tires and that changed speed ? I have video on it if u go look in my video history. And u prob are like shouldn’t I know my top speed lol , but I’m never pushing speed I’m usually just in the 30s ridding around
No doubt a nice machine , just no need for it with me. . Ounce again just my opinion. But if works for you , then that’s all that matters . Didn’t know stock was 3 year warranty. Longest stock warranty I’ve ever heard of . Now I know Honda stock warranty is one year but you can buy extended for 3 years or more . But it’s extra money .
I totally agree with you. Solid points. I'm checking out the 700 as well. The speed thing is very realistic. When out on the trails in California out in Julian/Ocotillo/Borrego area. The fastest we ever went was 40mph for only a few feet before we were down to 20-25mph for 95% of the time anyways because you never know who is on the trails or even around a blind turn. Like you said, the price from the 700 vs 1000 is a cost savings. Im planning on the ful enclosed cab with hard doors and thats almost $4,000 to add that because I want a heater for Pennsylvania weather when needed is a big deal to me and that $4000 option for just the enclosed cab and cost savings to already a reliable 700 is worth it. Especially to me as I plan to buy and option it out with the 700 and comes out to $26,000 fully optioned out for what I want. I don't plan on buying one every year either. It's something I would run for a long time and that's something Polaris guys can't say or Can-Am. Even guys burn up the clutches on the Yamaha YXZ1000. Ask me how I know, I have a video on my RU-vid changing them out for my dad actually. I got him the upgrade clutches after he did that.
Great points , Thank you so much for your Common Sense. Bang for Buck 👍. “ Happy Middle “. Married 42 yrs. 5-Kids always taught them St. Paul says “Moderation in all things”. The “ Happy Middle is where life’s at. God Bless You 🙏
It’s served me well for last 2 years and my family loves it . I’m not scared to let kids drive cuz the power is lower and safer . In my mind it’s the best machine for us
@@BruceKemper-n8d I agree with you. I like to hear my intrusive thoughts before I flip it ya know. All jokes aside, I'm glad you brought that up about the noise because I am looking for a quieter sound and also if planning for hunting and using it maybe. That's a good advantage I think.
You should get commission. I just bought a 2024 700 base. Had a rzr 800. Rzr did 60 screaming. I’m trying to break this machine in right. 35 is what it likes. People over look this unit. It’s the only logical one to have.
In 2002 I bought my kids a Honda Rancher 350 and a Polaris Trailboss 350 they dogged them out the Polaris was sold for scrap 10 years ago and the Honda starts and runs every day on the farm still. I could sell the Honda tomorrow for at least 1/2 what I paid for it new. The Polaris needed more repairs more expensive repairs and in the end was no match to the Honda in terms of reliability
By the way. I completely agree with you when you talk of 1000 cc machines with high horsepower. Completely unneccsasary. In the tight woods where I ride they have no advantage. Only in the fields or on dirt roads do they have the big advantage. Actually in order to follow me in the woods they have to get the chain saws out
If the 520 is smaller dimensionally that is actually an enormous plus out on tight trails. Its amasing how much an extra 2 or 3 inches of width restricts where you can get...
I swear bro....u could be mistaken for Ron desantis. Y'all sound almost identical. No offense intended. I like both of ya. Love your vids man. I have a 24 2 seater forest 700. Love it.
I don't own a sxs but mabey one day and it would be the 700 Honda i love that sxs , In 2020 i had to upgrade because of back issues and after trying them all i went to 2 new Yamaha Grizzly's ive owned several Hondas and sold my Rubicon with the solid rear axel loved the machine but the ride was killing me , But honestly ive always been a Honda guy but ive owned all the japanese brands of atv's , In my opinion the Grizzly is the best machine in every way i have a couple buddy's that never grew up that have Grizzly's and run the shit out of them and neither one has ever changed belts when i was talking about upgrading i asked them how hard it was to change the belt and they said they have never changed the belts that maid my mind up about belts and the Grizzly also i think the Yamaha's transmission is just bulletproof ive never heard of any failures . But i did like the new Rubicon and the ride was nice and was considering buying one till i tested a new Grizzly the ride is just so much nicer , also i didnt like in the new Rubicon the trans shifting on its own when in the manual mode in different situations i also liked the Suzuki K Quad i would of been happy with either one if they didn't make the Grizzly LoL !!!
@@ArizonaKidTo be honest i never wanted a belt machine but when i decided to upgrade i had to accept that type of drive system , I get being a Honda guy i was or am haha ive owned all the Japanese atv's except Kawasaki and some dual purpose motor bikes over my yrs , my experince is the Japanese atv's are just better machines
Honda makes great bikes and off road utv/atvs the only downsize is the add Ons but that goes with the territory. how is the door project going? thanks for sharing and have a great day
Just bought my folks 2020 model. Fully enclosed with heat. They bought a new machine. The 700 is a reliable machine. If someone asks what’s the top speed and how much power, it’s not the machine for them. It’s not a race car. It’s a utility machine and also very capable trail machine. It’s perfect for what it is and priced accordingly .
As a professional Mechanic that works on nothing but side by sides (came from the heavy diesel industry) belts are cheap easy to change CVT clutches are cheap a Honda is great UNTIL it breaks all that integrated automatic transmission is VERY VERY expensive to fix I've seen people who couldn't even begin to afford the repairs over and over
Interesting, everyone has there opinion and thanks for watching, ps I’m also from the automotive industry 20 years plus . Like I said everyone has there own opinion and thanks for sharing yours like I shared mine
If you don't mind me asking, how about polaris? Some people say they are garbage, but a lot of people I talk to say they are the best. Just curious if you have personally seen a excessive amount of problems with them.
Just bought a Honda Pioneer 700 deluxe today. It'll be delivered tomorrow. It does have power steering, but i can't say if it's worth it or not as i have nothing to compare it to. Reason i got the deluxe (in all honesty), is because this is the machine they had in stock. Haven't seen many in stock in my area. I was going to look for a 520, but those are like mythical unicorns. Anyhow, i still haven't driven it yet! Thanks for posting these videos. You're doing a great job and us folks woth no experience are getting to know all the add-ons and upgrades because of your channel! Thanks!
Honestly, you totally have me looking in this direction. I will do the research. Cute child. You don't have man books. I will stay tuned. #Keepupthegreatwork
In my own car ?? Because the utv and ATV both have 4x4 but my truck does not , so if talking about my truck no I never miss not having 4x4 and I take my truck all over and don’t get stuck and I’d think it might get bad then i use my ATV or utv , thanks for watching
Damn! Bro! I shouldn't listen to you!. Now I got to have a honda pioneer 700. I wonder if is the right vehicle to carry 700 pounds in my little farm house?
I want to buy one but I'm worried about the very weak clutch. I don't think this machine is capable of carrying 4 ppl on a slight incline without burning out the clutch in high gear, witch means it's useless.
Hey you do you but I’ve carried 5 people and never have issue , over 800 miles and 3 years and clutch is fine . But life is full of risks so u do whatever makes u feel good and thanks for watching
I would if they would put nice factory, cab on it, heat and or air, seal it up Honda, im a Honda , person, i have to to Polaris because of creature comforts
Lack of power was the deterrent for me. And all my ATVs and UTVs I’ve never had a belt problem. Our Kawasaki Mule 2500 had two belts in almost 9000 hours. Reliable is Honda but have a friend with one that had to have the tranny rebuilt and that cost way more than a belt. But for the most part that are great.
Yep always gonna have a few bad and a few good with other makes , but numbers still say Honda is more reliable than other brands , and math don’t lie , but with saying that I still like other brands also . Thanks for watching
Here's the difference between your 700 and a 1000. I may not need to exceed 45 mph, however I can run at 25- 30 mph with my 1000 and put much less stress on the buggy. I can carry more, tow more and go further on a tank of fuel. There are reasons a 1000 is a good choice for many.
Bed weight is same ?? And tow weight is 1000 lbs difference which would only make difference to someone pulling with it ? Which no one does but maybe a farmer ? And then they wouldn’t use it anyways , I know cuz I’m a ex farmer. . Stress on engine ? Only would matter if machine full to capacity? And as for fuel ?? No ratings on that . But nothing wrong with 1000 and if u like yours then that’s all that matters . Lot of guys like big trucks and big engines they never use to just have the big power. . It’s your money Ann what u wannna do . But most people wanna save money and get something that works . They don’t need the extra power they will never use
@@ArizonaKid I can carry 5 comfortably. I live on a farm and tow with my 1000-5 often. I can maintain 30 mph at around 3,100*-3,300 rpm. That RPM range is much lower than what you'll find on the 700 at that speed. The thing to remember about wear on an engine is that every rotation counts. They add up regardless of the strain on the engine. The strain on the engine due to high rpm's or high loads, just magnifies the wear on the engine. As an example, I belong to a few Pioneer groups. There are more than a few that have photos of the instrument cluster showing 70,000+ miles on the 1000. I'm not saying the 700 couldn't, or hasn't made it to that point, but I haven't seen it. But like you said, it's your buck, so if you like it, then you made a good choice.
Wouldn't it be great if you could actually purchase a Honda pioneer. 4 dealerships less than 50 miles from me and you can't get one. Amazing that you can buy Kawasaki mule at 3 of the same dealerships. Very disappointed that this was the case
@@bryanduke2144 all of honda's motors are so detuned that this won't matter. The motors are bulletproof. Basically they are built for this. It would be my last concern buying any of the Hondas honestly.
My 2022 base 700 showroom new was 11k. My buddy got the 1000 and told me to buy the 700. Can you recommend a tablet mount? Can't seem to find one anywhere.
@ArizonaKid here's one but I'm learning there's more than one dash for the 700's, mine is base model and doesn't have center storage and has smaller glove box.
I believe 2006 , when the Rincon up its cc from 649 675cc and this is the same engine used in the pioneer 700 . Even though pioneer 700 I think started in 2014
How loud is the engine noise. I have a polaris 570 full size, and the engine is loud. I'm looking at the 700, but would like to know about engine noise.
I’m gonna say it prob same as most . I did notice after windshield was on it’s more noise . And I had different pipe that was louder and went back to stock . Remember engine is under u , so gonna hear it . But don’t believe it’s any louder than other brands
I get comments on how quiet my 2021 Honda 700 Pioneer is. When I did my research buying my 1st ATV in 1993 looking for quality, reliability, and value, Polaris ended up dead last. Hopefully, they have improved over the years.
Great video. I've been considering the 700 for camping and desert Geocaching in Az. While I have fun with my Yamaha TW200, I am getting older. Being from the Midwest, I'm not sure the rules and restrictions in Az for using one. I'll have to research that.
I have video on that , but it’s not hard , 700 comes almost done , just need plate and sticker from dmv and they will tell ya what u need and either windshield or sunglasses required and one review mirror and u should be ready to go . Don’t need turn signals can use arms in Arizona
@@driveabout1world872 GOOD QUESTION AND I HAVE LOOKED INTO THIS - DONT REMEMBER ALL BUT SHORT ANSWER IS YES - JUST AS LONG AS U HAVE PLATE FROM YOUR STATE AND IT IS DONE CORRECT FROM YOUR STATE AND HAVE INSURANCE ON MACHINE - NOW THERE IS A TIME FRAME BUT IN MY MIND THAT TIME STARTS IF U GET CHECKED LOL HINT HINT

My two biggest complaints about UTVs are the noise level and heat shielding and not necessarily in that order! How would you rate the 700? Does the seat get hot?
I live in Arizona, one of the hottest states lol so maybe I’m used to heat ?? But it doesn’t bother me , middle gets a bit warm but I do y sit in middle and that’s when driving all day in hot weather . @@danielspencer5023 yes I added a sheet under seat but just cuz my son sits in middle , heat has never seen a issue and only reason I did it was cuz I watched another video do it
Anything Honda I like. . Yes the 1000 is outstanding machine . Cost more than the 700 and if looking to just hunt ? Might wanna go smaller . The load weight isn’t that great a difference, if any honestly can’t remember without looking up . But if don’t mind extra amount then ya grab that 1000-5 . Will not be disappointed.
Hello Kid! Thanks for the informative video. I'm trying to decide among the 520, the 700-4, and the 1000-5, so your video was great! If I'm basically going to use the UTV on forest trails to find and take photos of AZ wildlife, what would you recommend?
If it’s gonna be you and only u , maybe the 520 and save some cash . If might wanna take more people one day and need a bit more power than I’d say 700 . But you’d never need the 1000 . Just way to much cash and power you never need .
