after a few years playing around with vintage tone capacitors, this is a simple work around that generates the same harmonic content as a vintage 50's Les Paul harness. elements of the Beano tone, Kossoff and Leslie West tone.... jump right out of the guitar... watch for a more detailed video to come... Guitar is a beat up mahogany PRS, pickups are Motor City Blackbelt II, volume is a 500k Dimarzio (proper taper) and a cts 500k tone ... Mojo PIO .02 cap and three small value selected inductors... I won't share the values but those willing to experiment will be rewarded :) amp is a Vox ac4 into the shop 4-12 .... no actual Gibson parts vintage or otherwise were used ...

Hey Pat, thanks for sharing. This is fascinating. I definitely want to try it. I did try a bunch of different old 60s and 70s caps in my guitar but had no bumblebees to try. Anyways, what this makes me think about is the filter controls on the Dumble Steel String Singer. Someone's version shows a 0,5 H inductor right before signal feeds to the high and low step filter circuitry. Consensus on a forum seemed to suggest that it accomplished nothing and can be skipped... which I did on my build... but now I wonder...

Hey Pat, I can't believe the tone of that guitar. Hmm, it just has that PAF sound, to me. Mind you, this is on my cell phone. Cheers

Hi! Thanks so much for this useful info! I just would like to know if there’s a certain value that can be dangerous. Like I don’t want to feel the electricity in my fingers :) Sorry for the dumb question, but I dont know anything about electromagnetism... thanks again!!

there is nothing that can hurt you ...I often solder guitar wiring with the test amp plugged in and poke at the live circuit all the time ...inside the amp is another story ...

So bumblebee capacitors have a larger amount of inductance than modern made capacitors? Have you tried wiring the vitamin T cap in reverse? I had really good luck doing that.

@@patfurlan when I was in college, we did this one experiment in lab and used phasor diagrams along with oscilloscopes and we would map out the resistance, capacitance and inductance of a circuit element under test. I bet if you sent one of those bumble bees, I could quantify what is really going on and make a video on it. I wonder if wiring a pio mojotone capacitor introduces inductance when wired backwards, because the shielding is no longer grounded

@@voxpathfinder15r I have rounded up a good quantity of Bumble bees ... they are more complex than what the inductor does ...the knee above the switch on Frequency is more gradual and the inductance of my latest samples reflects a lot of high frequencies ... the result is an extremely focused mid cut when you dial back the tone cleaning up the signal ...that mid cut also shifts as you adjust the volume .... I am learning a lot more about vintage Les Paul Volume & Tone Controls ...new video eventually!

@@patfurlan Yeah. When I created my account many, many years ago I didn't want to use my real name. I had binge watched some old SNL featuring skits with Sluggo, Mr. Bill, and also a Bass-O-Matic. I mashed them together and never changed.

Motor city Blackbet II pickups, 500k dimarzio volume, 500k cts tone, Mojo PIO .022 cap + 3 inductors ... in and out of the cap + 1 to act as a treble bleed

@@patfurlan wiring an inductor is the reverse of a capacitor, right? Like if you want a high pass filter with an inductor - you wire it like you would wire a capacitor in low pass filter and Vice versa.
