I think its pretty awesome that this public park added a coping ledge. is there a skate park at this same park or is this just something theyve done to keep kids off the streets even if they cant make it to the skate park?

Yeah this spot is just chillin in a community park. It also has a nice but high rail on it as well. Blessed for sure. Lots of skating has been done here.

Dude, I am a typical 34 year old blader who had to relearn everything from the ground up again. I skated hard from 16-24 but a couple of bad breaks took me out. Started back up a little over a year ago and hadn't been able to wrap my head around topside again. This video really helped getting my brain to comprehend the movements required to lace that shit. Thanks!

Dude same situation as you, but I'm 29.. I skated hard hard from 15 to about 24. Quit totally for the last 5 years, restarted with USD Carbon Frees which have a MASSIVE different feel than any normal liner skate! I had to completely relearn EVERYTHING except just rolling around! I even had to relearn how to jump. Ive been blading again for about a month now (like 2-3x a week max for a few hours seshs, I skated every single day no matter what 15-24) You ever skate carbon frees man? I didn't think I'd have sooo much trouble. I feel like I'm gonna snap an ankle in the carbon frees which is really scarey

Thank you so much for this, no one has ever been able to explain top sides in a way I could understand. My top souls have never been consistent because of that "soul" mentality. I'm going to try this

My problem is bending my foot and ankle into that position. This is the best topside tutorial I've seen. Good job man. Keep it up.

It's all in the pop. Practicing the jump as reps. Do whatever topside you feel most comfortable with, every time you skate do 10 reps x 3 sets. Grow 💪

Absolutely. The jump is just edgier... if that's even a word lol
@acostablades8138
@acostablades8138 5 лет назад
Absolutely, it's just more to the edge. I try to spot ledges from the bottom. So looking at the line where the ground and ledge meet. That's where you wanna aim for just straight up to the top of the ledge. Good luck!

really great advice to encourage people to think about what the skate itself is actually doing. lots of good comes from getting everyone to think about the physical mechanics of the skate. conceptualizing a topside trick as the frame coming DOWN rather than the sole plate doing a "shark attack" (or however you put it) is really, really excellent! Keep up the good work, man!

Topside on non coped type of rails and curbs? It seems impossible to me, but so easy on round coping type of rails.

This is gonna seem weird or random. But, I feel like skateboarding, snowboarding and various other things that most people blame on the decline of rollerblading. Actually had nothing to do with it. And I may have also come to the conclusion that quite the opposite, blading had a much bigger chance than all the other extreme sports as it came at the pinnacle. I feel like the problem is the design of the blades being around the very small amount and experimental tricks at the time. Skateboarding had decades to evolve organically. Where rollerblading kinda got plugged in and thrown together in a few years, the skates designed around those tricks and then set in stone shipped out for marketing. The biggest and earliest design problem is the topside grind. Sure, it's possible, but it just kind of sucks to do unless there's a perfect bowl or ramp with lifted coping. Otherwise it's an extremely unergonomic position that's very stressful on the joints and body. As well as just simply being uncomfortable. Sure you can do a stylish sit down ao topside but that's going to take a lot of practice and pain. As well as long term injury damage. Now, you have regular soul style grinds, negative grinds which are pretty bad and feel unnatural for the design of most blades. Back/frontside style grinds. But, after that it's all more complex topside and ao topside grinds. Which as someone who has done them all for years at one point. I got burnt out and it just destroyed my legs, shins, knees and ankles. That's just one of the aspects. But, if you look at other sports like skateboarding most of the essentials are not extremely uncomfortable or awkward on the legs. Sure, some are, but for brief stints, not almost all of it's mechanics require you to balance on say, the side of the board. In fact looking back and from a different perspective. I feel like blading is going to make a huge come back at some point. But not until the mechanics of the tricks and the design of the gear is innovated. Pretty crazy I didn't really think of this until tonight because I'm on here looking to mess around with blades first time in 10 + years.

Just wanted to say that in the last year that one seemingly simple tip (putting your topside foot ON TOP the ledge/coping) really helped a lot! It encouraged me to learn fishbrainstalls on coping (so bad if you do it wrong and miss) and I generally started learning topsides on ledges (coping I generally find easier somehow...). Scared the hell out of me but with that tip you can't go that wrong. Great tutorials - best there is!

Hey brother I just got back into blading after 15 years of skateboarding and I was trying topside mizou one sesh and litterally sliding my boot away from the lock-in like 10 times and going down really hard left and right but today after watching your video and changing my approach I finally got it pretty good ! Thanks for opening my mind up . Much love

One trick that seems to work for me on ledge or coping is doing a regular grind/stall and then doing it topside and I lock in every time for whatever reason.
@acostablades8138
@acostablades8138 5 лет назад
Oh yeah! Finding that edge first is important. Then lining up with the topside on that edge.

I don’t do much top sides. For that reason of banging my shin and knee. This was a lot of help. Very understanding to jump up and down on it then to jump at it. I will have top souls added to my list in 2019. Thank you!
