Being 73 now....this takes me back in time that brings great memories and wonderful thankfulness of having this true music like none other, nor ever will be again.
I was 10 years old in 63', and I still listen to songs of the 60s and 70s today. This was music you could actually understand and appreciate. This kind of music will never come around again.

It is impossible to explain the feelings these Old songs bring up. We were lucky to be here to experience the good times🥰I would not have missed a second!
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face!......
Absolutely no filthy language!!! Everyone wore clothes!!! No one grabbing someone’s nobody parts or playing with their body parts!! This is music / it will always be here!!
Seeing Andy Williams sing brought tears to my eyes. I was blessed to see his last Christmas show in Branson my wife was able to get us Tickets. At the end of the show he said he was taking a leave to fight his prostate cancer he passed a few months later. 😢 what a voice
I'm 75 now and consider myself lucky to have been a teen and young adult during those years. The music was fantastic, and we actually learned the three 'Rs' and much more in school. I also met my husband in 1960, and we married in 1966. Fifty-five years married and still having a wonderful time.
Well, Norbert, the Vietnam War and the draft was on everyone's mind . It wasn't so lucky for my husband and my brother, and it was downright tragic for many friends and relatives: injuries, PTSD, and some paid the ultimate price. These young men, along with female nurses who enlisted, proudly did their duty and I am forever grateful. At my age, it's best to look at all the positive things of life and keep the precious memories, no matter how joyful, or sorrowful, intact.
@@kathryngrove-dewitt1631: Not only were the lives of those who were inducted into military service ruined, but many who were of military age but somehow escaped getting drafted could not get decent credit, buy a house or even a car, or get a decent job. This is because lenders and employers were correctly concerned that young men could be conscripted at any time, and their investment in these people could be destroyed!
It was difficult as far as wars went, and there is always something going on in the world!!! My dad served in WW2, and that was difficult for him as he lost many friends!!! Now we have Covid!!!
I am from the Philippines and I'm now 74 years. In 1963, I was just 16 years old and I am quite familiar with these iconic songs performed by such great singers. Just nice to tread down memory lane.
I'm 80 but listening to these songs makes me feel like I'm getting ready for my first date. These songs were the background music while I was growing up and I wouldn't change a thing. Enjoy your memories.
Oh, man I’m having an attack of nostalgia while reading all of these wonderful comments! I’m a boomer...being 14 in 1963. The best music and best of times ever to be young and alive in America. Would love to have those years back. 🥰
I graduated from high school in 1962 and remember these songs like it was just yesterday. I guess it's safe to say it was a much more 'innocent' and gentle time - but.... things were getting ready to EXPLODE. Literally! Thanks for the memories!✌
I was 13 years old and surrounded by the greatest music ever. The best was yet to come in the rest of the sixties What a great time to be a teenager. Awesome
Great until you finished high school and got your draft notice. I wish I had never registered with the local draft board. I have seen many of my peers who were never called. I suspect that they never registered. I certainly wish I never had!
@@norbertsiewert3917 Nothing like reminiscing. But there's no such thing as the greatest music ever. That's a subjective statement, and only applies to you. That said, I love the music from the sixties. Many classics from that era, that also bring back memories to me. Music, is very much so mnemonic.
Our music was our stress relief from all the problems back then. Today, we don’t have this great music from all of the stress from politics and Covid. We shouldn’t turn on one another, so sad.
I remember all these as I was about 10 and very much into pop music...I used to do my chores with the radio on loud on weekends...all the charts were played over and over.. me singing along while dusting and vacuuming 😜👍 yep, kids had chores in those years and we better did them without any complaints. Crazy times 🥰👍😆😅😆
I was 6 years old in 1963. I remember every one of these, thanks to my mother and my older brother. Such great memories. "Wipeout" is still one of my favs.
Phyllis I was a 6 year old in 63 as well. 👍 I grew up with these great artists and tunes. Played some when I learnt and played guitar 🎸 later on as a 16 year old. Those were the days. I wish you well my dear. Pietermartizburg KZN South Africa 🌍
i was born in 73 wipeout to me is the coolest thing ever hahahahahaaaa.........wipeout LOL Never gets old it's up there with Hey hey mama said the way you move gonna make you sweat gonna make you groove
I remember hearing most of these on the radio, but never saw what many of the performers looked like. The ladies singing “My Boyfriend’s Back” don’t look anything like what I imagined. It’s a real treat to finally see them sing it
I was 13 ...beautiful memories that will stay with me forever. I'm just sad my my first n only love no longer around to share it with me❤ RIP my dearest husband. Love never dies.
I was 16 in 1963. My old high school friends and I email each other and agree that we were exceptionally blessed to grow up during these times. I don’t know about anybody else, but these kids look like babies to me!
I think that we were expected to "grow up" much faster than today's kids. I can remember being told at 16 to give serious thought to what I wanted to do, go to college or whatever. Always followed by you'll be an adult sooner than you think. Junior and senior year in high school we were constantly told we'd be adults soon and talks about making decisions for the future. After high school you either went on to further schooling or you were expected to get a job. No ifs, ands, or buts about it! If you went to work it was expected that you turn over a portion of your earnings to your parents. It may only have been 10 or 20 percent but you were expected to pay your way. In general boys moved out while lots of girls stayed in the family home until marriage. Nowadays they give prizes for "participation" and kids live at home a whole lot longer. I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the economy and lack of jobs that pay a living wage, however these kids aren't prepared to be grown ups as quickly as we were. We had jobs at 16 and were paying "rent" as long as we were working. We were expected to do school and a job if we wanted pocket money after we turned 16. We were taught "there's no free lunch" most of our lives. If you could get a job babysitting, doing chores, mowing lawns, shoveling snow, etc. before you got your working papers at 16 you did. Most of us wanted to work and have our own money. Kids today have it way too easy. And the music, with exceptions, is pretty awful! I could appreciate some of my parents music but today's music I just want to turn it off.
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face!......
If you didn’t live through it you’ll never know just how good it was. A wonderful time to be young, and we all agree it was too. I’m so thankful that I was born in 1946 and grew up precisely at the right time. There’s absolutely nothing enjoyable in today’s popular music for me, poor kids of these days not having a genuine good time like we did.
Lol, I would have to agree. I was born in 55, and wish I was born in 45 cuz that way I would have been 20 years old in 1965, and able to really live through the 60s
A wonderful time to be young, unless you were a male, in the United States, healthy but poor, and had no connections. You were sure to be conscripted into military service!
I love listening to the oldies. I was a kid in the 60's but it was the 70's that I came of age (HS & college graduations) so the music from 70s is where my heart lies. But I enjoyed this walk down memory lanes from the 60s too. Music, old memories and emotions combine into a special gift. The old days might have been special, but you tube and Spotify are today's gifts that allow us to uncover the treasures.
I had a transistor radio stuck to my head all the time. I even got caught at school listening to a crystal radio that had the ear phone run up my sleeve. LOVED IT!
that's right......... i was born in 73 and even i remember mono sound and that single skin coloured ear phone with that twisted white cable that ran up your sleeve or in my case, it was a walkman but in the early 70s it was a transistor radio with a black leather case with holes for the speakers and i'd put the wire from the radio which sat in my pocket up my back , under my shirt and out the head hole in my shirt into my ear it felt like nothing was there but i was wired for sound LOL even used to go to the roller rink and feel like cliff richard
What memories. I brought the 45 of Puff the Magic Dragon for my younger brother and sister because they loved it so much. They are both dead now, and I miss them heaps.
I'll be 74 soon and 1960 through 1969 were amazing years! Go back and watch American Graffiti and get a small sample of life in that era. The trailer asks "Where were you in 62?" Me? Starting high school and meeting my BFF, may she rest in peace. We were shy girls, but together we were a bit adventurous and bolstered each other's dreams. Because of my friend I became the first girl to be allowed into the Industrial Drawing class. I wasn't trying to prove anything I just like math and drawing. Lol Anyway, check out the movie if only cuz Harrison Ford is in it! 😉
@@donnapickard4701 Check out the movie I Wanna Hold Your Hand. It's about a group of kids trying to get into the theater to see the Beatles! Great fun and a glimpse into the craziness of Beatlemania!
Though I was born a few years later....I grew up hearing this music. The 1960's from tip to tail were an amazing time in history and music is extraordinarily amazing.... Always a pleasure to listen to 1963 🤗
1963 - -- what a year in music. The great Lesley Gore, the only singer with two songs on the list. Many other greats -- Beach Boys, Chiffons, Bobby Vinton, so many memories of my sixth grade year.
I'm 70...in '63 I was 12 growing up surrounded by surf, blues, R&B, motown, rock and soul in Southern Cal. You did a great job with your list...I only heard a few songs I would argue about. :)
@@gretashapiro4118 Honestly, I moved to rural Kansas to raise my daughters put them through college away from neighborhood gang shootings, but even with the massive population explosion in So Cal...I'd rather be back there rather than being surrounded by uneducated morons here in Kansas that support lies, disease and treason over our free elections and Constitution. I'll take traffic over liars anytime.
Fantastic list! These were the songs played at the high school dances. This conjures up quite a few very good memories especially "The Rhythm of the Rain'. There were so many good instrumentals in those times - "Walk Don't Run' comes to mind. Thanks for putting this together.
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face!......
Time goes by so quickly as we get older....The 60s seems like just yesterday, I can remember the days back then clearly, but dont ask me what I ate for supper last night...Granny glasses and bell bottoms, shoulder length hair tye dye t shirts, those sure were the days.
born in early 60's' so as a kid i didn't really catch on to this music till the 70's..But compared to todays music you cant beat these memorable classics.
I will never forget the first time I heard Stevie Wonder play fingertips - I was 14 picking berries in the summer sun with my transistor radio. What a happy time. Those who were born later missed the best years our nation has ever had.
I was 19 then and I only can remember Blowin'n in the Wind, Sukiyaky, The rhythm of the rain and Surf'USA. I'm from Spain and here the songs weren't so popular.
75 years old now, single for the past 24 years, go off walking alone each day, water bottle , AirPods, mobile phone with my music. Mostly 60s and70s music , still have the values of my parents and don’t apologise to anyone for those principles that have seen me through some tough times. Let’s bring them back, let’s not apologise for them.
Im 75 and was a young teenager in 1963 growing up and enjoying all this great music. The world was so different bright endless no limits to what could be achieved.
Songs of the Mid 50’s and 60’s were truly the best in my teen years and still remain the very best to this day. Sweet memories lingers within me making me wish that if only time could stand still. Best years of my entire life.
The Cascades who made the song Rhythm of the Falling Rain came to Vietnam in 1968 to put on a show for the troops. Thank you guys for entertaining us. I always enjoyed this song
My husband and I are in our 60s and the music of the 50s, 60s and 70s are our favorite. Songs were hard to find on tape and the radio these days...until my husband installed Alexa. Now when I am in the kitchen I tell Alexa to play ANY song of these years and the memories it brings tears up my eyes because life was far better than it is now. I feel young again and reminisce growing up. Gosh I miss those days.
I was in kindergarten and first grade when these songs were hits. I had older siblings who were teens, so the radio was always on in the house. I knew all these songs by heart, because I heard them so often. I enjoyed them all then and now. Such innocent times full of hope and excitement about the future and growing up.
Too Ray Killroy: I too was in kindergarten, and first grade then also !!? I have Two older Siblings, and numerous older Cousins!! Too us the Radio, Phonograph, and the 45 record player, were lake a God 🙏🙏 for us/ especially for My Mother, the full-time House Wife. Only thing was She not only ran it but She Ruled it !! My Parents God Bless Them had 42 yrs. Of bless before my Mother pasted. As you said we were Blessed. Thank you. WYO, Robert,🇨🇦🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇸👀👀
Born in 1950, witnessed the birth of rock and roll, raw, dirty, gritty. Elvis made it mainstream. John Lennon stated "before Elvis there was nothing". One billion records later still the King!
This was the year I was born. Fascinating to me how many different styles were coexisting & thriving, yet a sea change was only a year or so away. Also at least 3 or 4 of these were re-done by other artists when I was a teenager to great success. Some of the songs are hopelessly frozen in the amber of 1963 and others are completely timeless!
This music was before my time. But when I was a kid back in my single digit years. My parents used to play a lot of these tunes on the record player. My dad collected records. He had a large collection and he was always playing something. They've both passed on recently. But this music really brings back memories of them when I was just a little rug rat. Thanks for sharing this with us!👍😺
Man how I miss the 60s. I was 12 years old when the Beatles hit America and went straight from country music to rock and roll overnight period went through the hippie stage and man what a life that was. Now I'm 69
Yep great times and the Beatles taught me to sing. Great harmonies. Al quality in that era great music with great lyrics. Now I’m 64 so we are very much of the same era.
I remember these songs on the radio in the early 60's and I am not on drawing a pension nor am I retired. I also remember where I was on Nov 22 1963. Thats the day it all changed and we never went back.
It's fun to look back but I wouldn't want to go back. I'll take the here and now of the information age. We have our problems, but they don't seem as insurmountable as they did then.
Back in the day when every song on the radio really was your favorite! I was 14 years-young and I remember these songs so well. You never had to touch the radio dial until the news came on! LOL!!!
It was. Such a simplistic time. A much more enlightened time would come to come that would change the world for the better. We need those messages again. The world is such a mess right now.
The sixties would have been great for me, but I had the draft hanging over my head. I dodged the draft for 1.5 years after graduation from high school. I failed. Got drafted and ended up going to Vietnam, as had thousands of other boys from my generation. Think of all the dead and ruined lives!
I loved and heard most of these songs my big sister listened to, as 1963 was the year I was born , but my 4 older siblings and my parents, all bought a ton of records throughout their years growing up, and I listened to all of them, which were awesome!
I was also born in 1963 and I remember everything very well except in the '70s I forgot a lot of stuff you know LSD and all that crap what a great time to grow up love your comments they're great good luck to you my friend Gary.
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face!......
PMA Im just a few years older than you, and I too can remember all the words, who made the records, and sometimes even the backing singers. We were lucky to have been there .

The decade has to be carefully defined to not insult the music. Here is an example of what I mean,, modify any way you want. 1958 or 1969 through 1963 or maybe 1964 or maybe 1965 [a stretch] is the "early" sixties, then the newer end of that until perhaps as late as 1972 is the "later" sixties. 1978 is the era of punk rock and new wave which more seemlessly goes with the 80s, which starts in 1979. And what I left out is the forgettable less-than-a-decade of Disco. My main point is using numerical categories serves no one. In 1963 we still had the Elegants and Litte Star, but that fits in more with the 50s. You may want to make a variant category about 60's songs with "messages" which clearly 1963 was NOT all about. I wouldn't call Jethro Tull a 70's band, I think those of you who still have a functional brain know where I'm coming from on this.
I was 16 when these tunes hit the waves. Had many of them on 45s. It only got better from here. And they were still playing the 50s hits during this period. A great time to be young (I’ll turn 75 this year).
I'm only 16 but idk why I love the early 60s. Almost everything about it. The clothes, the hair, the way people acted, the countercultural Revolution, the music... I wish I discovered this gem of a decade earlier because it's my happy place honestly😂 Also wish more people listened to this music because I hope these styles return with a modern twist
There's a ton of good music out there which will take all of us a long time to discover. I'm glad to know you like this music. It just confirms a belief that the world can be a better place. Stay positive and support peace!
It's absolutely amazing to think how much music (and everything, really) had changed by 1970. The differences between me and my parents wasn't a generation gap, it was a Grand Canyon.
Oh the memories. Yes we grew up with pride In Our country and respect for morals taught with love from Our parents. We also learned how to love the new music that let us dance, wiggle, and fall in love and cry over losing it. But then what did we know about love. We were babes in the woods. However thanks for the smiles and memories you brought back.
Love all the songs of the 60s but in my opinion, no one beats Dean, Frank, Judy, Sammy, Ella, Andy or Bobby Darin. Still watch them on RU-vid almost every night
Crazy the transition of (modern) music in my lifetime. It put a smile on my face being watching this montage a art form through my youth and as a drummer. The memories all tie into a certain innocents and genuine experimentation of expression and emotion that marketed so well. Music has always been one of my dearest friends. It has smoothed over the bumps and defined so much.
Gary Beauchamp Gary....I am a 68 yr old teenager! I still remember and always play the tunes of the late 50's and 60's. What great music we had...dance music, love songs...and as I write this note, am listening to "Baby I need Your Lovin"...what a simple time we had...with real music! Wish to go back in time...and never leave it. Today's generation unfortunately will never understand this great period.
My dad graduated in 63 too. It seems like a wonderful time to grow up in. I was born in 71 and graduated in 89. I loved my era so much. Kids today are missing out!
I was 10 and just about aware of it all but a bit on the young side. But going back now as a 68 year old I wouldn't be seeing it through my 10 year old eyes. Refreshing memories definitely.
I have every single song on this list on various best of CD's and best of compilations. One of my favorites, weird for a Beatles fanatic, is "Can't Get Used To Losing You" by Andy Williams. My family watched his show and I saw him sing it many times. It is just a great pop song.
Went to the moon river theater in Branson Missouri andy Williams theater. He sang that song. Miss all the values we were brought up with. But its gone now our election was screwed up by China. They own us.
@@aileen9553 I just listened to your "favorite song". I can't really tell whether it's much of a song, or not. Ada Jones is singing flat most of the song. I prefer singers who sing on key, but maybe that's just me.
@@KathleenMcCormickLCSWMPH I think you are probably right. According to Google the first mini skirt came out in 1964 and just kept on getting shorter. Not that I minded at the time!! Lol 😆
Oh, boy…memories. I performed Puff, The Magic Dragon at the spring assembly of my elementary school. It was 1963. I was eleven. That song remains a favorite to this day (2021).
I am 75 now started working in 1963 and still enjoy listening to the old songs from the '50s to the '70s all the songs have a meaning in my life and mostly remember the first time I heard it
Other 1963 BIG HITS many No. 1's * Roy Orbison - In Dreams / Blue Bayou * Shadows - The Boys * Kathy Kirby - Dance On * Ned Miller - From A Jack To A King * Gerry & the Pacemakers - How Do You Do It * Helen Shapiro - Not Responsible / No Trespassing * Del Shannon - Little Town Flirt * Beatles - She Loves You / I Want To Hold Your Hand * Brian Poole & the Tremeloes - Do You Love Me * Cliff Richard & the Shadows - Summer Holiday / Dancing Shoes * Exciters - Tell Him * Rooftop Singers - Walk Right In * Jimmy Soul - If You Wanna Be Happy * Singing Nun - Dominique * Elvis Presley - You're The Devil In Disguise / Bossa Nova Baby * Steve Lawrence - Go Away Little Girl * Beach Boys - Surfer Girl / Little Deuce Coupe / Shut Down / Be True To Your School
Andy Jay You've picked some great ones here. I remember these very well. Would certainly have put any of these on top in place of that dreadful Sugar Shack. I remember every time that came on the radio I'd change the station. The sixties really were an amazing decade for pop music. Maybe the best ten years ever.
The 70's also had some monsters, as well (some started in the 60's admittedly)...BST, Chicago, EWF, Chase, Santana, Weather Report, Manhatten Transfer, Stevie Wonder, Johnnie Taylor, The Spinners, Donnie Hathaway, Billy Paul, Billy Preston, Bill Withers, etc. Favorite groups from 60's=Friends of Distinction (Goin' in circles, Grazin' in the grass); & Staple Singers (Why & For what its worth); must mention OC Smith: Little Green apples & Bobbie Gentry's Ode to Billy Joe Bottom line: 2 fabulous decades of music!
Well put, Andy. I ask myself how can they make a video about top songs of 1963 without the Beatles or Roy Orbison, for instance... I can't understand it. :D
Jakartaman, I felt the exact same way about Sugar Shack! Always changed the station! What is it about these lists where the number 1 song is always the worst one?
