WI guy here, and I’ll be hanging around local waters for at least a few more weeks. Then I might try the St Louis River for a change of scenery. Great video and I’ll add that you do have an excellent teaching style. Thanks for the effort!
Incredibly invaluable information as always! And the overlays and mapping you provide for us visual learners is just the cherry on top! Seriously can’t thank you enough. To answer your question, will be at my place on Mille Lacs for opener. Best of luck to you wherever you decide to go.
Appreciate the comment as always! My goal is to help people catch fish and I’m glad you feel it’s helping! Love Mille Lacs! Hoping to get there sometime this spring!
Very good. It helps me think through the process of finding spots and it helps me understand why I've run into fish in certain places in the past. I will not be fishing MN opener but will be going into the BWCA shortly after. This will help.
@@tjsguideservice appreciate it TJ! Life has been crazy lately with my oldest son’s baseball schedule then to top it off my youngest son ended up breaking his arm at school today! Hopefully we can make it out next weekend!🎣
@@CanadianAnglingAdventures Gord! Pretty cool to have you comment on one of my videos! Always been a big fan of how you approach fishing. I’ve learned a lot from you, so THANK YOU! Looking forward to following along with the podcast!
I posted a question on a different video, Im the guy going to Kab at the end of the month. Appreciate this video, I really enjoy your educational videos to help us learn and you do a great job of it. So many channels just show guys catching fish, and while we all like to see someone land a beauty, it doesnt help much to improve as a fisherman. I like to see baits, presentations, methods for working the baits and most importantly the "why" and learn more about fish behavior etc. I appreciate that you do this so well and make it a focal point of your videos, thats why I subscribe and watch. I have actually unsubscribed from some channels because its nothing but reeling in fish. For those of us trying to learn, it doesnt help much, like I said. Everyone gets so consumed by the right rod, the right bait, the right technology, but at the end of the day, the most important point if you are hunting, trapping or fishing, is knowing the behavior of your target and that takes knowledge and understanding. So again, appreciate so much your "educational" videos and hope you always continue to make that a big part of your productions, I know you have helped me understand the fish much better and hope to learn more. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Im also kind of a science nerd, the biological understanding of the fish behavior is what I find so interesting, love that you incorporate that into your videos I havent really found another channel that does this as well. Have you ever read the book "Walleye Wisdom", its older and i got it off amazon but it has some interesting info in it. I love reading case studies of fish behavior from tagged fish that were tracked, I wish there was more available.
That is very kind of you and I’m glad you were able to make it over to this video! I figured this would be right up your alley! Thanks again for the comment and good luck this year! 👊
@@tjsguideservice Its an Infisherman book with writings by well known names, one of them is Linder I think? Its a cheap book used $7 , I didnt have high hopes when I saw it recommended on a forum last year but I ordered it anyway because the guy said it had such good info and he learned a ton so I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised, well worth the $7 if you even learn one thing and I learned quite a bit. Some of the bait presentations are a little dated, obviously the "hot" tactic changes every year and I think thats encouraged by the lure makers haha, but the concepts on movement, location, behavior, biology/feeding etc is timeless obviously and thats what I enjoyed most, some very good diagrams in there also.
@@tjsguideservice I posted the link to amazon for the book, pretty good reviews on there also, I havent left a review on there but I agree with all the ones available, its good content. Also if you are looking for ideas for videos Im sure you could find some info in the book to comment on or to make a video about as it seems like nobody likes to read anymore LOL but could present concepts or ideas from the book in video format and make it your own.
Great video...thank you for some great info... I can't wait to get out walleye/pike fishing... unfortunately, up here in alberta Canada, our season doesn't open until may 15... HAVE MY GEAR TUNED AND READY...LOL.. Good luck to everyone this season... From my overtaxed, melting, very wet igloo on the mountain in alberta Canada 🇨🇦 D.
You bet! As much as I wish we could target walleye year round, there’s just something about the anticipation of the opener that gets me going! Good luck this opener water season! 👊
Great info as usual! Truly enjoy your channel. I’m hitting the Mississippi River for opener. The flow has increased due to all the rain making for dirty water and fast currents. Any suggestions on where to target? I’m thinking pulling cranks in less than 5 ft of water in slow current. Thanks TJ!
Thanks a bunch, Chris! I do very little river fishing. Something I would actually like to learn more about! I like your thought process! Something loud that they can sense the vibration in that cloudy water for sure. Bigger profile as well. Current seams are always good or anything that can break the current like rocks or logs!
Darn good content! Beat me to it on the rock and sand overlays on the map shots! I'm going to have to do something different now for the Wisconsin opener video I'm working on now😂
Hopefully this opener I can find some Walleye on 3rd Crow Wing. Been a great lake for other species, but definitely struggle getting into the eyes, I know they are out there so maybe some of these tips will get me on them!
@@tjsguideservice Do you find yourself packing in with the rest of the boats, or off finding fish that aren't having 1000's of jigs thrown at them haha.
@@jackramsey3469 I don’t like fishing around people so I always try to get away from the crowds. Even if there are less fish they seem to be more bitey! Sometimes tough on opener though because it seems like there’s crowds everywhere! 😂
@@tjsguideservice absolutely, I like to hit local lakes to leech that have no one on it, then slide onto leech in the coming weeks when the opener crowd leaves
You will asked to give photo proof of fish to show you were listening 😉 Appreciate the comment! I’m hoping to get to Mille Lacs over the next few weeks!
Wishing for s vermilion outing soon after opener. Eyes are always a challenge for me there but, as a back up, at least the panfish are relatively easy to find
Did you contact their customer service? They did phenomenal job! Otherwise I would double check how they are hooked up properly. Did you get the charger from them as well?
I have not personally fished those, but this video may have some helpful tips! Not the same river so may not completely apply. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yrgzUkexGeo.htmlsi=92D5CCe4iyuyuXjb
“Those that can't do, teach, and those that can't teach, teach gym.” - Dewey Finn (Jack Black in School of Rock) T.J. just put that quote to bed! Excellent content, partner!
@@tjsguideservice That's hilarious! One of my favorite quotes, but rarely get to use myself! Ha, ha. We're out on the 17th for the summer. We say farewell to kids on the 16th. It's all but over too quickly.
@@tjsguideservice You've got to get on that school board and let them know that's too late for the walleye opener and you need your time on the water and so do the students. ;) Ha, ha! For us, we don't have to worry about "opener" as much as the weather naturally keeping us off the lake most spawning times.
buddy, you need to learn math, if a big walleye prefers a bait that is 45% of their weight, a 26 inch walleye, which is about 5-7 pounds is looking for a 2-3 pound bait, that 2-3 pound bait is NOT 10 inches long, NOT even close, he's looking for a 14 inch baitfish, DO THE MATH, or adjust your numbers, cuz as you stated them they are complete BS
