All work and no play makes SMC a dull place to work” was the theme SMC took to heart as they organised and hosted the SMC Staff hangout that took place on the 6th of September 2024 at Concha Villa Beach Resort in Eleko.
The hangout, which was filled with various fun activities including the playing of board games, groups games, breach football, walks, and of course the enjoyment of item seven, was attended by almost all SMC staff including the Dean, Dr Ikechukwu Obiaya and all the heads of departments.
It was a truly relaxing event that helped staff to unwind and bond outside of the office environment.
The Professional Education department organised a trip to South Africa for the MTN-Media Innovation Programme 3 participants from the 31st August to the 6th of September 2024.
During the trip, the participants visited the MTN Group where MTN sustainability initiatives were discussed. They also met with the High Commissioner of Nigeria to South Africa, Ambassador Alexander Ajayi, and the High Commissioner of South Africa to Nigeria, Ambassador Thami Museleko. Both ambassadors urged the journalists to tell more positive Africa stories and to also focus on telling stories that strengthen the bilateral relationship between Nigeria and South Africa. The participants later had a tour of the MTN innovation centre and also visited the University of Johannesburg and Rock FM.
The Professional Education department also organised the Corporate Identity and Brand Management (CIBM) seminar that ran from the 3rd to the 6th of September 2024 on the main campus.
During the seminar, participants learnt about how to protect their corporate identity while exemplifying the great aspects of their brand. They also learned about compassionate branding especially in challenging times.
A total of 16 participants attended the seminar.
The Media Unit of SMC under the auspices of Mr Kenneth Inemi Esere organised a graphics design class for staff of the University on Friday the 13th of September 2024.
The training was designed to help faculty and administrators understand how to design simple publicity and presentation materials to make them more self-reliant in this area.
The training, which was attended by several members of staff, will continue every Friday for the next few weeks.
Finally in the news, SMC is collaborating with renowned scriptwriter, Omotunde Akiode, to organise the first-ever Scriptwriting for Childrens’ Animation course that will take place online.
The 9-day course, which spans 9 weeks, will commence on the 26th of September and end on the 28th of November. Participants will learn about the ethics of writing for children and storytelling for children amongst other topics.
It is designed for aspiring and seasoned screenwriters, animation students and professionals, children’s content creators, directors, producers, voiceover artists, and children’s educators and teachers.
