Some of my favorite moments in DCI history. There are too many shows to choose from, but these stood out to me the most. I would like to hear what your favorite moments are in the comments.
Perhaps. To many of us it is when Drum and BUGLE Corps was officially dead. It started when the high school band instruments came into play. Electronics killed DCI.
@@JohnSmith-zi9or I thought it was cool till I realized that they aren't playing their instruments. I'm old school...no recorded music or singing in DCI in my day.
It was , funding from dci helped paved the way for the new quantum computer, used to further the Rothschild Zionist agenda. #KEEP FREEMASONRY OUT OF DCI
@Karlen Ruybal This is somewhat inaccurate. That part of the show was added about a week prior to finals, which is not uncommon. Yes they weren't winning at the time, but also weren't doing poorly at all
What the absolute fuck is going on? I feel like I'd break mine, since I play bass one. I am 110 pounds tho. Still feel like I'd break my drum. God, my back hurts just thinking about holding myself up like that
Literally the only time I’ve ever thought a synth was used well in a DCI show. I’m old AF, though, so I’ll just go back to yelling at the kids on my lawn.
It would be cool if DCI could do like a "pro bowl corps" at the end of the season, of all of the best corps members from around DCI. That corps would learn a sick new show and perform at the super bowl every year :D Or they could just let the champions march every year. ...or let the fans vote on their favorite corps. :) Maybe the crowd-favorite idea would be the best....since the general public is all about being entertained. I bet people would like shows like Tilt or 1995 Scouts :)
@@GingerKing243 Just my opinion of course, but I see DCI a sport (it's more than just a sport, but still). I think it's sad that they don't get paid. How cool would it be if every NFL team had a drum corps! More jobs for musicians :)
@@dctrbrass Oh trust me, I get that. I really try to push to people to understand that it's a sport because it is. If you can't see that, then your letting your own arrogance (marchers) or ignorance (general pop) blind you. A lot of sports teams have drumlines, but they're never featured which kind of sucks. Even the few football teams who have a full band, no screen time or field time. Which is kind of ironic considering college football games are all about the halftime shows and the band. I do plan on starting a Drum Corps one day though. I plan on basing them out of Detroit, MI. I'm willing to talk about all of my plans with the corps in the DMs. Don't want to leak the details of my plans to the general public and have my ideas completely stolen. But yeah, it's seriously a shame that no drum corps has ever been featured at the Super Bowl. I half get it because "band" and it's not pop music, but it's still nonetheless crappy. If they could get a corps there or an all-star team, it'd be cool to see multiple corps directors band together to create a super show. You could even break certain DCI rules for this show, like no pyrotechnics, liquids, and smoke. It'd be pretty dope to see a show with stuff like that.
The first time I heard of DCI was when I was a freshman in high school and my band director showed us Tilt. That closer gave me goosebumps that lasted for the rest of the week!
There may have been shows that were better than Phantom's Spartacus, but no other show has ever had the same effect on me. A truly unique experience from beginning to end.
I was in the Argonne Rebels DB Corp in the 1970s. We were a founding member of DCI. But, goodness... Seeing the Corp shows of today is just incredible. We were in tune with structured straight lines and choreography that is antiquated by today's standards. WOW what happened? I'm proud that is older folks from the DCI beginnings can see what has happened to DB shows. None of this would have been allowed back then. The Argonne Rebels came from a small town in central Kansas but was able to compete with major cities with resources we couldn't imagine. BUT we did win a national title VFW in 1972 1973. It was a thrill I will never forget. Winning over Cavaliers, Troopers and other well known Corps of the day probably shouldn't have happened but IT DID. Not bad for a town of 18,000. History will show we had the best hornline of any. All those 5AM winter rehearsal s paid off. Sandra Opie is to be commended for her devotion and insight. Dam... I wish I still had my Soprano bugle. Have been searching but so far no luck. I'm totally into DB Corp again and can't wait to Dawn my Argonne Rebels jacket and attend the next DCI championship. Incredible!!!
Phantom’s Juliet, with Elsa’s Procession at the end is probably my favorite ending. The sound, the volume, the piece, it’s all beautiful and chillingly good
That 2011 Phantom Regiment closer with Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral has a special place in my heart because that was the last piece I ever played in my high school band career and every time I hear that piece I think of my time in band and all the joyous memories
My favorites were Cavs 2001 fight scene, Bluecoats closer in Tilt, those glissandos give me chills every time, and Cadets We are the future drum feature.
Wow, great performances. 1st group-just blew it away @9:00-very interesting, never heard anything like that 16:30-Elsa's is FAMU's staple and the late great Dr. Foster's favorite piece! Well done
This takes me back to my days......*cry*.......never made it to the big dogs because of my asthma but i went to the SCVanguard training camp and tryouts 2006. Me and ONE other dude were chosen for the cymbals final line in practices. We were doing drills and warm ups with the 2005 line!! Was dying when they had us running up flights of stairs at 7 in the morning with our cymbals on....stopped after each exercise diving for my inhaler lol..... it was at that moment I knew I wasnt going to be able to do that full time lol
My brother was an active member of the Glassmen in the 70s and 80s as a little sister I remember watching their rehearsals and going to the competitions, DCI was and is still my favorite and something I've shared with my own children. I'm also a huge fan of Phantom and Santa Clara!
You missed 3 of the best presentations of all time. The Kilties flag pre, Santa Clara's bottle dance & the Anaheim Kingsmens color guard opening in 1973. True performance. None better!!!
It's certainly one of the best in DCI history imo, but I also made it number one because of everything before it that perfectly built up to it. Tons of crazy percussion going on and that groundbreaking brass feature make that show something special.
Aaron Reilman yeah. There has to be a build up to it or else it’s not special. The company front is a perfect exercise in precision marching. When it’s done right, it’s special. It’s one of the Cadets’ hallmarks and yeah, taken as a whole, that was a brilliant closer.
One cool thing is that your choices did not match up with the winners each year. We all understand the technical aspects, but also appreciate some of the showmanship elements, which I think is your focus. For me I can say without reservation that Bluecoat's 2004 Tilt ending is the best I have ever seen. The major leap at the end; the joy of the girls who caught him, etc. The end of the longest and most taxing weeks of their life all ending with that leap. Oh, to have been in that crowd. I get goose bumps just thinking about it.
Bluecoats 2010 had some great moments. I also loved the drill for Cadets 2007 along with the music selections (voice was overdone in that show though). Encore in Crown 2011 was really cool and a good example of a crows pleaser. The intro in BD 2011 show gave me the feels. The "wink" is another great moment. Star 93, SCV 1989, Scouts 1988, mid 90s Blue Devils and 70s Scouts were some early classics. So much to choosr from
Just gonna day it out loud now... this old F Horn loves the classics (‘88-‘96) but Tilt turned up to 11 is a fookin’ masterpiece! My boy at the bottom of the screen 9:27 was my hyped reaction to that show....
I was in driving in 1981. Many of the drills were just getting into ways to trap field judges, much like what I see today. The best show I saw was bridgemen from the 1970s show ended with a mad dash to get off the field, imagine it looking like a circus, some people on tall stilts. It was amazing.memories.
Old school here. Went to four finals in the mid to late 70's. My high school band was preparing to be the first corps style band in Texas. Fell in LOVE with the magic. It just gets BETTER and BETTER. Every single year.
Santa Clara in '99 has to have the absolute best dynamic control out of every band I've ever seen. The contrast between their piano and forte is ridiculous.
Earlier in the 2014 season, that Crown closer included a cool three-dimensional revolving planets (or electrons?) drill that they apparently could never get clean enough.
nice edit and nicely selected; I saw many of these shows live. I still miss the olde DCI sound of the Bugles. This is a great short composite of recent DCI years.
Thanks for sharing.... I have yet to experience a DCI championship LIVE! (While I believe you might be a Cadet fan, their performance are always top notch.) I was happy to see my favorite, Phantom Regiment in 2 of your pics.
Grew up going to these competitions. My brothers were members of the original Bayonne Bridgemen. Still love these talented corps even after all these years.
As a Cadet Alumni, thank you for this! I love these moments as well. The one that gets my heart the most is not on this list. 1987 Cadets Appalachain Spring - this one made me know I wanted to be a Cadet.
There's a video on my channel specifically for 20th century shows if you wanna check that out (it's got all the stuff you just listed): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Bsi7_6iVrek.html I'm a big fan of modern design, so I apologize for the bias showing. I tried to keep this list more accessible for casual fans, although looking back I don't even think I agree with this list in those standards! If I had to do this list over (and I think I may), it would look completely different since my tastes have evolved a great deal since I compiled this list.
I completely excluded a clip from my 2nd favorite show of all time (Phantom Regiment's 1989 show From a New World...Into a New Age) even. Honestly don't know how I let certain things slip from my mind while making this!
My friend is the soloist in Juliet 2008, he messed up on the solo and we still have a good old laugh about it when we go out for cold beers at our local bar whenever he flies by LA (He's in the presidential band)
