Hilarious intro. The tip about only buying fragrances you love resonates most with me. I’ve been slowly trying to sell off fragrances that are just ok to me, because I find no glamour in watching them collect dust! Great video, Dan!
Greetings Dan! Thank you for this video! Just got my bottle of Dunhill Icon thanks to your information. Appreciate the unique way you present fragrances!
Great video on moderation! Thank you, and I hope many of your viewers take your common sense tips to heart. It would have helped me when I started buying fragrances with a passion.
Great advice. One of the best videos I have seen. Answered a lot of purchasing and life questions. I will try to spend less on frags and focus more on cheapies and designers
Thank you so much for the highly needed wonderful video. Please continue to produce more content like this. I hope your chanel continues to grow and thrive. You deserve way more subscribers
Hi Dan enjoying going through your back catalogue, great advice, I have found that re discovering some of my old favourites from the 80s, 90s very enjoyable but also more than that researching the cheaper end, Bogart range for example, I have ragba for men quite happy with that dont fell I need the original its good enough for me. I do enjoy the barber shop often cheap smells and some bargains out there just bought Lagerfeld classic box set for £22 x 2 bottles one aftershave one eau de toilette while the coty version still smell amazing a posh tabac vibe lovely. While I would love to run out to get Roja Doves collection its hard for me to justify it when I have a family , house etc. But I have mad some mistakes blind buying, much more research and aiming to what I know I want.
I *ALWAYS* LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR VIDEOS, ESPECIALLY THOSE *HILARIOUS* OPENINGS! 😂😂 GREAT IDEA FOR A VIDEO DAN. I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS NEW AND WAS BUYING FULL RETAIL FOR THINGS I COULD'VE GOTTEN FOR WAY CHEAPER! THANK FOR SHARING BROTHER!👍👍
An awesome video, giving serious tips.. people should usually check into making more types of these videos, they're so useful for upcomers and current players.. also.. I cannot not crack up every single time I watch you... you've been an inspiration to me and my unravelling endeavore.. thank you !
AWESOME TIPS!!! So glad you did this video and I will share as they are all SUPER USEFUL. I personally do subscribe to most of them already, but I sadly don't use fb so I'm missing out on the Fragrance Group tip. :(
Super sensible video, great video... Hype is hype, yep. Reformulations suck so much. I cant always test a fragrance before buying, blind buy is o... has to be done sometimes.
*Lycosa, it's good to see you around! Mr. Smelly introduced me to the House of Creed with their best seller "Aventus" and I've been grateful to him ever since. Women love it and there is no substitute. Club nuit intense man is good, but not the king.*
I wish you would have done this earlier! I am throttling back. I began obsessing and it is an addiction. I get it now. I do have a few that I put in my must have list, but now it is a slow and methodical process. Thanks again for the advice! I have and love Bogart!! and Vermiel!
Great and honestly video, THX. May you wanna review Penhaligon Hammam Bouquet, Rasasi Shuhrah or Balmain Carbone? Also Ambergris Shower from Rasasi would be cool.
Great advices Mr. Smelly. It's easy to be carried away and buy fragrances you don't need when you're into this madness. Most people who are into this probably have a fragrance for every occasion already anyway.
Fantastic list Dan, especially #6. Another tip may be to find a RU-vid reviewer who shares the same tastes (and skin properties) as yourself and weigh their preferences slightly over others. Parfumo.net is also another great page to find reviews. But what helped me the most was creating my own niches (wearing scenarios) and filling them with 1 fragrance each, before adding to each niche, in order to avoid redundancies. Eg. 1 versatile, 1 freshie, 1 night out, 1 special occasion. Then circle back again.
Niche is great, but what you said was sooooo true! MANY of the discontinued and "under the radar" fragrances can stand toe-to-toe with MANY high priced or hyped fragrances. Just do your homework, as you said. After hundreds of bottles and trying to keep up with the "in crowd", I must echo your point. Outstanding video ✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️
Thank you for the tip, your video îs a very practical and helpful guide in buying men's fragrances for newbie fragrance hobbyist like me ;) liked and subscribed.
Great stuff. Just a drop of feedback, I would've appreciated the ten tips being written on the screen as you were announcing them. Love all your work tho
i must have every mancera fragrance mwahahaha. i am heading that way though its crazy . but yeah sometimes with the cheapie fragrances you can land on the jackpot especially with laurence dumont , my favorite out of them are vanille abricot and today i received laurence dumont Prune Jasmine and wow it smells awesome cost $17
What's your opinion on having back ups? Also what's ur opinion on having a clone scent of a niche or designer scent that you have,in order that you can use the lesser clone on day to day(like work) whilst enjoying proper original fragrance for special occasions?
Back ups are ok if you can get ones you love for a good price and if they may be discontinued or go up in price. Probably not great from a rational financial point of view though! I have a few back ups of cheapies and discontinued things like D&G PH Italian version and Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum 2012 formula.
Hey @MrSmelly1977 are you in any good fragrance Facebook groups in London? I guess there are many, but is there any group in particular that you would recommend? Thanks.
The part about balance is so true. I subscribe to many watch review channels and there are some of these reviewers that will sport beautiful high end watches but are wearing shitty threads that look like they were pulled off the bargain rack and some old ass Oakleys. I’ve never understood it. Wearing a nice fragrance or timepiece makes so much more of an impact if you are presenting the full image to accompany it. Don’t be all watch, or all fragrance. Invest in other areas of your image. Balance is key to looking and smelling sharp.
Good tips. But I never buy online. Always in store, and preferably in Paris or Milan I know I'm paying more, but peace of mind is more important. On the plus side, that puts a break on the number of bottles I buy.
did not like Shuhrah by rassi at all, too deep too dark, but I did not like Oma Passione Uomo by laura biagiotti at all to sweet.but now I have two 100 ml bottle 50/50, one of the best smells I know now, On dates I layer either RL purple label (lunch) or CD Homme Intense (dinner) magic!
You still enjoying Very Valentino Mr Smelly? And given what you said re: La Nuit and hype etc,do you consider VV to be worth the price online it can go for on eBay?
Yes I am still really liking it. For something like £1 or $1 per ml I'd say it is ok value but preferably try a mini before spending on a 50ml or 100ml bottle. Maybe £60 for a 50ml is ok. But risky for a blind buy!
I have :(mugler Cologne ,Dior homme sport,l'eau par kenzo,Gucci pour homme2,armani code ultimate, ysl la nuit de l'homme EDT+EDP ,bleu de Channel EDT +EDP ,D et G pour homme,D et G the one, cartier déclaration d'un soir,Valentino uomo EDT ,lalique encre noir,Gucci by Gucci ,terre d'hermes EDP ,Zara wra,Dior homme intense ,Channel allure homme, guerlin l'homme idéal ,midnight in Paris, azzaro Chrome ) what i need more for my collection please tel me(excepte some braine)
