Always dig your Jaguar content. My personal list varies a bit, but whose wouldn't? I'd probably do something along the lines of, not necessarily in order: NBA Jam:TE Battlemorph Brutal Sports Football Ruiner Pinball Val d'Isere Skiing & Snowboarding Super Burnout Wolfenstein 3D Cannon Fodder Doom Tempest 2000 Wolfenstein on the Jaguar is way better than anyone ever expects, and AVP, while cool as an exclusive plays so much choppier than it or Doom. Honestly, AVP is probably the most overrated game by people who don't really play a lot of Jaguar, and I'm glad it didn't make your list. It's actually pretty tough to make a list like this for folks like you who know the library, so kudos. A top 20 might've had to include a couple of mediocre games, but the Jaguar has well more than ten great games, though people enjoy crapping on it. Good deal again.
@@rudolfrieder186 I agree that structurally it's more similar to something like Killing Time or Powerslave, but its choppiness still makes it tough for me to play. I get motion sick playing it.
Great ro still see love for the Jaguar!!! Love your Jag vids. I have a different top 10 list but nothing wrong with yours. Your choices are all winners as well.
Jeez, I practically forgot Blue Lightning existed on the Jaguar. I think I played it 3 times when I originally got my JagCD and never played it again. BTW, kinda surprised not to see AvP, Doom, or NBA Jam on your list.
I love 9 of the 10. You can't leave off alien vs predator. It's arguably the best game for the jag. Replace blue lightning (which is probably the worst of the CD games) with AVP and you have a great list.
@@SecondOpinionGames1 you know, you can turn the map off and on right? The controller has all kinds of buttons for pressing. Kind of a weak argument if that's the only thing that "brings the game down". But that's just my opinion.
Second Opinion Games I frequently turn the map on, find my bearings (where I want to go) then I turn it off. Go for a walk. Turn it on again. So on and so forth. It works just fine. Just like in REAL life you wouldn’t navigate by holding a giant paper map in front of your face while you walked around...
I wish I never got rid of my Jag. I had so many games and the cd add on. It wasnt a bad system, just too many consoles at the time and Jag got lost in the mix.
Good list, but... You put Blue Lightning on your list but not Battlemorph or Hoverstrike: Unconquered Lands? Did the bacon vodka cause brain damage? Now, I actually do think Blue Lightning is kind of fun, but between the twitchy controls and it's retro upon release sprite graphics, you're setting the bar REALLY low for the Jag CD. Not only were the other two games I named more fun, but they also looked pretty impressive for the system. But I guess we can still be friends... I have a copy of Super Burnout.
Battlemorph and Hoverstrike are Great but I just have such a soft spot for Blue lighting. For god sake ever reviewer took a dump on it but me. I just cant stop playing :) it is so rock and roll.
as a jag owner in the 90's (i had these games) 1. cybermorph 2. AVP 3. tempest 2000 4. Doom 5. wolfenstein 3d 6. club drive (wacky game was fun with 2 players though) 7. defender 2000 8. atari karts 9. Trevor McFur in the Crescent Galaxy 10. chequered flag 11. iron soldier 12. super burnout 13. towers II 14. missile command 3d
I was surprised to see Blue Lightening on your list. I don't know if I would put it on my top ten, but I will agree it is better than what most critics say about it. Same goes for Sensible Soccer. I've never played it, but from the reviews I've read or seen they tend to poop on it. I used to own Wolfenstein 3D. It's the best port I've ever seen by far. The gameplay wears a little thin after a few minutes for me personally. My number one game that I've played so far? It's got to be Tempest 2000. It's the reason to own a Jaguar. Good list anyway.
If I got to make a substitution on his list, I'd take out Iron Soldier and replace it with Ultra Vortek. I know, everyone else likes Iron soldier, and I'll admit it's pretty impressive from a technical standpoint, but I thought it was a bore to play. And Derek, I'm surprised you're not trying to slip Kasumi Ninja in there. I remember you have an unhealthy fascination with that game.
@@ressljs unhealthy? probably. I just think Kasumi Ninja isn't as bad as everyone says it is. I mean even the first Mortal Kombat is tough and sluggish to play. If you can get used to MK then you can get used to KN. Where would I put Kasumi Ninja? I don't know if I would put it in the top ten, but top twenty for sure. Anyone out there got a KN headband?
Glad to se you included Rebooteroids on this. You’re right- they do need our continued support and last strike looks incredible. I have to disagree with your number one choice- where it is a lot of fun it pales compared to the Doom port on the system. Also Jeff Minter classics should be on here for Llamatron alone. Tempest 2000 isn’t just the best game on the Jag but the best game ever! Jeff Minter needs a knighthood for his contribution to video games. I may not agree with you but I love your love for the Jag. By the way- head over to the Atari Age forums as Star Wars arcade is on pre order from the guys who do the ST homebrew carts. They are TOP quality.
Jag sensible soccer was a travesty. The game had been stripped. The AI was almost non existent you could walk through. The Amiga version was leaps and bounds ahead.
I dont do emulation because I'm not that tech savvy so it was really expencive to collect and review every Jaguar game. most people dont know how many good games their are for the system :)
There are now multiple Rotary Jaguar Controllers out there. I've seen three different modded Jaguar controllers being offered for use with Tempest 2000. One places a large rotary dial to the left of the numeric keypad; one replaces the D-Pad with a rotary dial; one places a rotary dial above the D-pad. I've also seen Jaguar Controllers modded to work with the Atari 5200.
I once attended a talk by the guy that created sensible soccer. Now, I can't stand most sports game but it was interesting hearing from a guy that was a pretty big deal in the early days.
I too was expecting him to put Club Drive on there due to his love for it. I know it is a bad game as he admits but it's a personal favorite for him at heart. I have games I love that many people just hate as well. But this is a good list!
Telling the world that you like Club Drive is essentially admitting you have a drug problem. Playing that game is like floating through a hallucination.
Save up your money. These days a working console with power supply, a controller or two, and a video cable is maybe $250 US plus shipping. I bought a couple of Jag consoles maybe a dozen years ago for $35 US each, so they are only going up over time.
Aye i went all out on the JAG i bought 8 games,Team Tap ,rotary pad for T2k, 2 x normal pads, 2 x pro pads. I hope i do not regret this. i have atari 2600 uno cart, 800 xl ultimate cart and sd max, and a 7800 with 20 carts. I am going to port Atari ST games over soon as the sd card cart drops for the jag. then i will have it all. I am looking forward to gather up my kids this Christmas for Gauntlet II 4 player on the JAG. Please make a video telling us were we are at in 2019. I am developer, show me the water so I may drink. show me to what I will need to know after the sd cart is dropped. Hell if you got the part i will make the dam thing myself for us both
I too was surprised not to see Club Drive on this list but I understand you admit it truly is a bad game but is a favorite at heart. We all have games we love that others don't like. My favorite Jag game is Skyhammer and it didn't make your list and amount of people dislike that one, tho you liked it I remember. Nonetheless this is still a good list and it's great to see a true reviewer that knows the library and doesn't just pick Doom or AVP on their list. Missile Command was a good choice as well many people forget that one!
Fantastic list! Tempest and Wolfenstein are so underrated (by the masses). I'm so gonna spring for the 160 ish price for Rayman at some point. I just bought a repro Brett Hull hockey. I really think that if they got the fps down it could of been right there (although I know it never officially was finished). Do you know if that JHL hack is in any way significantly better (other than more current player stats) ?
Funny thing is, I know the game is hot garbage. Everything about it is bad. But yet, I actually did enjoy playing it. In fact, it's probably one of the games I logged the most time on with the Jaguar.
@@ressljs it has horrible control, horrible frame rate, horrible ai, but I think for the time at least it had good graphics, nice track selection, and great music. To bad it didn't get them problems took care of before it's release. My opinion, if those problems gotten took care of it would be better than Virtua Racing 32x. But as it stands...it's not as good. I actually poured some time into it myself.
Even for 1994, I'm not even sure I'd give it a pass on the graphics. When I saw pictures in magazines, before it was released, I was surprised at how bad it looked, but I told myself, "They are just keeping the graphics simple so it will have smooth animation." Yikes! But yeah, I remember thinking that I should hate it because they basically screwed up everything but the audio, but no, I enjoyed it anyway. I still occasionally play it.
I love your hype about Super Burnout! Being a racing game fan since the sit down version of Pole Position in the arcade, games like this make me a happy man. Seeing Blue Lightning was actually a bit refreshing in my opinion. I think the game could have been better, but I actually like the game. I wish the framerate would not slow down at times though. I like your top ten Jag list. Mine would look a little different for sure with World Tour Racing being my number 1, but it's all personal preference. Just love to see more Jag videos and you have some of the best. Go World Tour Racing!
My favorites: Super Burnout Doom Wolf 3D Tempest 2K Iron Soldier AvP I didn't own CD but always wanted to try Battlemorph & Iron Soldier 2 (also on cart, I know). Great video
I don't know if I agree with this list. A best of Jaguar needs to have AVP and Doom on it as well. Don't get me wrong, Wolfenstein 3d is great actually it's so great that it is the best official release of the game ever including the PC version. What's criminal about the Jaguars version of Wolfenstein 3d is that it has never been re-released on anything again. I still think Doom has it beat but I was always more into it that Wolfenstein. Also there is an open world 3d game that was released for the Jaguar that is such a technical feat you have to see it to believe it. I can't remember its name but you fly in some type of hovercopter and do missions in an open city and it looks phenomenal. We're talking second generation PSX good. Whatever it's called that belongs on here as well at least for me.
Skyhammer it’s way to tough. The other game are good but doom is better played on the ps1 and AvP doesn’t hold up as well as Wolf 3D. 😃all good games though.
@@SecondOpinionGames1 no problem, I only have : AvP, Rayman (I finish it), Bubsy, Cybermorph (of course), Iron soldier (finished), NBA Jam, Doom (finished) and Super Burnout
Wow! No wonder that iron soldier 1 & 2 looks better than iron soldier 3, the 1st 2 iron soldier games are on a 64 Bit console, where as, iron soldier 3 is on a 32 Bit console 64 Bit sarcasm
I agree with most of your picks. Heck I even like Blue Lightning too... but ranking Wolf 3D as the #1 game?? Don't get me wrong, it is a very good game, and I can see ranking it somewhere in the top 10, but not #1. I would have ranked T2K, AvP, or maybe BattleSphere as the #1.
