Boxhead7077 I didn't, I felt like the motion control didn't follow me accurately. I left the room and got the drink ,but it never recorded me going to the kitchen!
I also don't think people realize this or I am in a minority, but 2013 is one of the best years in gaming so far. Jared gave 0 games 10/10, and this year, he gave 3 of them that coveted scores. Point is that while last year the industry had to resort to indie games like Journey or Mark of the Ninja to make up for lackluster triple A games not shaking as much ground, this year there is something for everyone. But not only the games made 2013 such a fantastic year, to be honest. I call this year, the year of hope. Face it, around 2011 Steam has begun soaring in popularity, and consoles sales started declining significantly. More and more gamers became "pc elitists" and it seems that consoles games are going to officially become extinct. Then, this E3 managed to ignite the hope again with the next gen consoles. While not nearly as revolutionary as the jump from the last gen to the current, the fact we have a next gen and both main consoles selling a million units within 24 hours makes me happy that PC isn't the sole machine for gaming. Here is for 2014, hope it'll build on the foundation of 2013. And I hope it will be the best even-numbered year for gaming since 2004 :|
Well, here we are, in June 2014 and I can confirm that it is so far and probably still will be a shit year. I can't think of any game this year besides Destiny, The Crew and Far Cry 3. Every great game that I was excited for was delayed for 2015, such as Batman Arkham Knight, The Division, Witcher 3, Dying Light and others..
@ICharlyl He's much farther into it than he uploades to youtube. Fact is, by the time he's done editing the next episode, he's probably already beaten the game
About Bioshock's guns Sure only having 2 guns DOES make Elizabeth's help more useful, but that's like breaking your legs so a wheelchair is more useful. Yes, having broken legs does make a wheelchair more useful, but you wouldn't need it if you had working legs.
I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate for saying this, but i don't see why people love Bioshock Infinite and The Last of Us, sure, they're good, but I would't say it's the best games ever.
I think its because they are pretty good balanced, story, gameplay and visuals... havent played them but i can recognice a good game when i see it... an no much games has that good balance...
A story driven game sometimes is just some peoples "thing". I couldn't bring myself to finish Inifinite, even having absolutely loved Bioshock 1 and 2.
To me The Last of Us brought something special, I kept hearing about how great it is and best game ever, didn't pick it up first day though do to money issues, but when I started I was slowly getting into it, and the more I continued I kept getting scared that is was going to end soon, it had such a great element of everything you want from a video game, a fantastic story, lovable and relate-able characters, amazing graphics and visuals, a sound so brilliant and breath taking, and re-playability, all of this came included with The Last of Us, to this day no new Next-Gen game has made me feel like my money was worth the amount I spent, and that even goes for the almighty GTA V, I spent 60 on it and wish I would have waited; where as I spent 50 for TLOU and wouldn't have minded forking out the other 10, it would have been completely okay by me.
hitorijuunin The gameplay and story are not great, to be honest. Only the dialog and graphics are great. But most people only care about graphics nowadays...
pokemon hasn't got much better apart from the graphics. It is still fun but not a top 10 game. Story is made for children witch makes it boring for adults.
Funny story.. I went to EB games (the Canadian version of Gamestop) to buy Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the Wii u, but they only had the used version. Then, the disk inside turned out to be the Wii version..
Alex Leonardi Eh, I am okay with it. I would prefer the Wii U version but really its the only place I can get it so I might as well take what I've got.
Jeez, based on the comments on this video, has it all of a sudden become cool to hate on GTA? Everyone has their own opinions and I respect them, but you gotta give credit where credit is due. GTA was in no way a bad game, and definitely deserves the praise reviewers gave it. It's tied for first with the Last of Us in my personal top 10.
GTA is a sandbox, and a lot of people (including myself) despise sandbox style games. I think they're boring and unoriginal, devoid of any real thinking process behind their development. And GTA has VERY little to offer besides being a sandbox game, so, the hate is somewhat justified.
nachotee It is very tough to create a fun sandbox that feels totally open and still restricts you enough to want to progress. It is a super thin line and one of the hardest things you can design for. I do agree that there are much better games out this year but it is certainly not easy to make a good sandbox like rockstar can. To each his own I suppose.
Something that I don't understand is why is it that Fire Emblem Awakening can have a casual mode as well as hard mode, which is what I used, but people cry and whine when gamers want a normal mode for Dark Souls 2?
Because Dark Souls isn't meant for casuals. It's meant to beat your face into the ground until you man up and learn from your mistakes. It was never meant to hold your hand and guide you, it'll tear your ass open if you even hesitate going through that dungeons door. Don't like it? Don't play it. No need to "cry" that it's automatically set on "hard".
Giga Bowser no thats not right at all... im a casual gamer and i fucking love Dark Souls. It's meant for people to take their time and not run through it like a hack and slash. Dark Souls is actually a pretty easy game if u slow down, take your time, and look stuff up when u need to.
Giga Bowser Point being is that why can't it have some sort of normal mode? If people want to rage and tear their hair out on hard mode then play hard mode but for ones who want to relax and just play a nice hack and slash game then they can play normal mode. Saying a game isn't meant for casuals doesn't make sense, casuals can play this game but some of us don't want to die of cheap deaths every five minutes. At least they should implement a save system where you can save wherever you want as well as keeping the bond fires. Short version: They should make it assessable to everyone not just one group.
***** Because the only reason Dark Souls is popular is because the gameplay is difficult and interesting. If you stripped Dark Souls of its difficulty, you take away everything that makes it a unique and rewarding experience, and are left with a mediocre RPG. Beating Ornstein and Smough would no longer feel like a monumental accomplishment if the most oblivious player in the world defeated them simply because they mashed R1 for 5 minutes. If you want a mindless hack and slash game, play Dynasty Warriors. Don't tell people to change their game to fit your playstyle just so youy can say "I beet teh derk sowlz". Play a different game.
***** Sure, an easy mode sounds like a good idea for MOST games, but when it comes to Dark Souls, the difficulty and strategy is what makes the game overall. Feeling the joy of beating a boss that's been giving you a hard time for quite a while feels GREAT! But if you were to strip that away and be able to beat a boss simply by wailing on him, where's the fun? The lovers of Dark Souls just want it to stay on the same plain of gaming (not speaking for all fans of Dark Souls, though, because some will freak the fuck out at the slightest mention of an easy mode)
***** Not including a game on a top ten list doesn't mean you don't like it. Maybe he's just not finished with it. After all, he didn't play it to be reviewed, he played it doing a blind nuzlocke.
***** All GTA games that I've played (haven't played IV) are really fun. But, just because a game is fun doesn't mean there aren't problems. I don't recognize any GTA game as a finished and solid project, I recognize them as fun games to pick up and play for a few hours. GTA has terrible, clunky controls (I didn't find GTA V nearly as bad as previous entries) and the shooting is either too frustrating (in the case of past games) or too easy (in GTA V).
To me, X and Y were easily the best in the series... but they were outclassed by better games this past year. Had they come out a different year, they would easily earn a high spot on my top ten. But as I said, too many really good things were out.
DisturbedKoala The best in the series? -Way too short. -So fucking little Pokemon. -The plot went to childish again. -Nothing to do post EliteFour. -Characters unlikeable. -Way too easy(Never needed to grind once) +Character customasation(needed in an RPG) +Petting your Pokemon(also needed) +decent 3d Gen V was way better in terms of story and Pokemon. Also there was more fun in it and a lot more to do. Gen VI is just like crysis.
- *Short* = Point given on your side. That was a negative. - *Small amount of Pokemon* = Disappointment with the generation but nothing against the game itself. - *Plot* was just fine. *
* It was the first time I've seen a well known children's game have a villain that wanted to commit mass genocide, let alone an act that some would sympathize for the reasons given despite it being against their wishes. *
* Therefore the plot is not childish in the least. If anything, it was the most mature in all of Pokemon. If the plot didn't strike a chord with you I think either you simply ignored what was going on, or you focused on that random AZ character background story. The latter is a story I did not really care for. - *Post Elite Four* - In what games were there things to do afterwards that actually were magnificent? Post game elite four all of what most people do is just compete with one another until they tire out. - *Characters* being likable or unlikable is subjective. I got to like them. If you didn't, too bad. - *Too easy?* You made it easy by leaving EXP Share ON. On top of the positives you mentioned, Gen 6 also made it easier to get into competitive battling. For the first time ever I got into it easily due to Destiny Knot's new secondary functionality, the Hatching O-power, and the new super training. And you know what else that did? It gave players a chance to really play their game with anybody in the world with peace at mind that they'll stand a chance. No more worries about hacked pokemon. You can make perfect Pokemon with ease now. Got scammed in a trade with a pokemon with poor IVs? Well now you can just breed that critter to perfection yourself with ease and just some patience. Furthermore, for those that care about shiny Pokemon, it is now easier to obtain them as of this generation.
DisturbedKoala I surely agree with you. The 6th gen was the best out of any game of the series, Even including Mega Evolution, grinding for pokemon I needed? Hard, kind of like getting a Dratini or Dragonair from fishing in route 21. I got a Dratini Post-Game so Jokes on you OneOfTheLoveless. Furthermore, Goodra, Greninja, Florges and Zygarde is pretty good. Goodra, being a Dragon type, could get Gooey, it's Hidden Ability. Same with Greninja, but it gets one of the best Hidden Abilities. Protean.
OneOfTheLoveless The Looker is in this game. That's something. And you can battle your rival once a day, post-game. There's is stuff to do. Oh, and you can get the Pokeradar, and get some good shiny pokemon... So yeah.... There's lots to do.
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is SO FUCKING GOOD. My god, I've heard of it, but never truly played it until a few months ago when I got it on the 3DS and it's just so much fun AND difficult. Getting to know the big monsters, figuring out what weapon works best against them. I cannot believe I've never tried this game and I'm dying for Monster Hunter 4. Bit sad that it is seems to be coming next year and not by the holidays though.
Had a lot of fun with Splinter Cell: Blacklist. It may have had it's (many) flaws, but Spies vs. Mercs, when you're in a balanced match against opponents who aren't camping as mercs and don't spam EMP's as spies, is probably some of the most fun I've had in years. Oh, and a fantastic single player with some lovably bad story and cheesy voice acting. :P
dethbreth8 It's great alone, but its infinitely better with friends. The Wii U version has online multiplayer, while the 3DS version only does local wireless. Happy Hunting!
***** I'm not too sure about X and Y being that great this time around. The 3D models and the story were good (story while predictable as fairly dark for Pokemon), but the post-game has been lacking in Pokemon for me personally since they got rid of the Battle Frontier...I really wish they'd bring that back, specifically fun facilities like in Gen 3.
Rogue Helios This may just be my opinion, but i agree with not liking pokemon that much, but i feel it was a neccesary jump for the series. While i too felt the endgame was crap, i feel that the game itself wasnt actually meant to be as much of a game as a test, they made alot of changes and a whole bunch of new assets for the franchise, so its understandable that the game was somewhat lacking. However, i can say that something like the battle frontier will more than likely be in 'Z', as now they can reuse most of the assets from X/Y but will have more time to play around with the endgame content.
He hasn't finished X or Y yet and if he finished X before Y it won't be a blind Nuzlocke so I understand why X&Y isn't in the list...But hey,Nuptup is still there watching Jared I personally for me it'll be a tie between X&Y and Super Mario 3D World both on Number 1
for what i saw on the list, yeah Pokemon did not stand a chance in this list... is not that extraordinary than those games listed here (until the new content is unloked)... i think pokemon would be just an honorable mention or the 11 spot in this list though =)
Well he is still playing it. Besides, its probably in the second tier. I wouldn't necessarily put Pokémon X/Y on the top tier, despite the semi-decent story(But GEN 5 WAS BETTER) and great new (and BAD) Pokémon.
Tbh, I liked gen 6 and the fact that it completely altered the meta game which made it a bit more balanced, but it lacks the story elements that made me like the gen 5 series. Then again I think this whole generation was made to appeal and balance to the slowly increasing in popularity meta game. Hopefully that makes sense.
I am quite surprised that you didn't include in your list GTA V or Assassin's Creed IV. They are, in my opinion, my favorites in 2013 but hey we have different tastes in gaming. Your video also made me wanted to own a 3DS and a Wii U right now.
'Bryan Delmond Half life 2? How come? Yes the story was pretty cool, the concept of dystopia and aliens was also original and worked well together, but the main storyline was not nearly as deep as any of the Bioshock.
Yeah, I also thought that the first time I finished BI, that it was the single story that actually beat HL2's, but now, when I look back at the two of them, I still prefer the story from HL2 and its sequels...
one thing i DONT like about monster hunter (WHICH I LOVE) is the replay value, or the lack thereof. you can pretty much do it all with 1 save file and its REALLY overwhelming to start anew :P
Hey Jared. I personally really liked the tomb raider reboot that came out at the start of 2013. I still agree with the other games in the list though. Keep up the good work.
I am a Bowgunner! In monster hunter... That is... But... I hate swords! I like running away! I like healing my teammates and stunning enemies! And putting them to sleep right when they are about to OHKO my entire team making me a viable asset to the team!
link between worlds was fun, but for some reason I just can't like that much because of how short and easy it was, and I think you should have been able to fight the bosses again, they are so much fun!!! but you are right about wanting to replay it right when you beat the game.
My personal top 10 1. Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus 2. Dust: An Elysian Tail 3. The Last of Us 4. Pokemon X/Y 5. Grand Theft Auto V 6. Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 7. Civilization 5: Brave New World 8. Rust 9. Dota 2 10. FarCry 3: Blood Dragon
Grand Theft Auto V , yes , there were some glitches and yes , GTA Online had a huge problem with hackers. But the whole map is beautiful and even when you complete all the missions you still have tons of side missions to complete and after that you can still go on rampages and piss the heck out of the cops.
Did you play Etrian Odyssey IV, Jared? My Top 4 were 4. Etrian Odyssey Untold 3. Etrian Odyssey IV 2. Zelda: Link Between Worlds 1. Fire Emblem: Awakening P.S. Sorry for all 3DS and RPG games, I just play them the most!
So glad to see monster hunter included in one of these lists, I still haven't played MH3U because I need money for a wii u lol but I spent ages on MH3, such a good game can't wait to get Ultimate
Fire Emblem was awesome. Loved playing new games over and over, creating the best Hero, then saving him in the journal and doing the next run untill i had enough superpowerful heroes to recruit in my main save that i could fill my party with them.
Here's the list for best 2014 games Dark Souls 2 gets 1st through 5th place The Evil Within gets everything else Watch Dogs gets 11th place and Titanfall gets thrown off a bridge. Drunk youtube comments ftw
How to get butthurt comments on RU-vid: Step one: make a top 10 games 2013 Step two: say it's your opinion Step three, wait for the butthurt GTA fanboys
Jesus. I'm sick of these GTA fans getting pissed because GTA V was never mentioned in this list. GTA V is a great game, but newsflash, it's not everyone's favorite.
Pawlok 13 that's the only thing better in GTA 3 a stupid cheats I love GTA 3 but GTA 5 is much better it has a bigger Map better cars more weapons a better story line the greatest characters in the series there's much more mini games and more vehicles you could ride including planes helicopters submarine oh and did I mention you could go underwater
When Fire Emblem Awakening came on I gave a mental hallelujah! I haven't seen it on anybodies' top ten lists anywhere and I really feel like it didn't get the attention it needed/deserved.
jwittzs gave it the praise it deserved and honestly I had an addiction to FEA lol. When I first got it I played it none stop for 3 days...I wish I was exaggeration O-O but finally beat it in lunatic + and idk for some reason I feel like the main character marring Lucina makes the most logical sense (random I know XD) mainly due to Morgons altered reality thing and spoiler I guess the scene when lucina is forced to kill you ahhh the emotions and the new dialgoue that is spoken makes it a tear jerker ;~;
Good commentary, no tryhard humor, actual critical thinking, actually plays games and not just the mainstream bullshit, DOESN'T ASK OR FEEL LIKE HE SHOULD REMIND ME TO SUBSCRIBE... Subscribed. You're awesome dude, keep being awesome.
At first I was really surprised that MH3U made the list instead of GTA V, but then I realised that he was right. I've spent more time playing MH3U this year then anything. And I enjoyed all but maybe ten minutes of it.
Sawtje2 Well, it's just MH3 with updated graphics and about twice as much content. If you enjoy working with others in MMO's then you'll like it. Granted it's only 4 player, but it has a very MMO like feel to it. You could get it on the 3DS, but I'd suggest the Wii U version more because it has online while the 3DS one doesn't. If you like it then get both since you can transfer your data whenever you want. I've done most of the single-player portions on my 3DS. Also, last I checked it's only $20 new at Gamestop.
Great list Jared, thanks for sharing! All the haters don't know what an "opinion" is, so don't mind them. They can't help it! For me, The Last of Us took the cake. Such an amazing game.
It's still a good game. GTA V is okay, it's just another Grand Theft Auto that doesn't add much, but GTA Online is *really* fun with friends. then again, it's full of glitches, hackers, and people who think "open lobbies are for stalking random players and killing them until they ragequit but it's okay because I don't know them". In other words, GTA Online looks bad because it's meant to be played by a bad fanbase. It's worth being on a top 10 list though... if you didn't play these 10 games. I've never heard of Tearaway before this video and I didn't play Ni no kuni or Bioshock Infinite _(I know I'm missing out on something, but the first two turned me away from this series)_, so it would probably be #9 or #8 in my own list.
falcon8752 good description, I think it just shouldn't be on a list because it's an easy pick, it's something that was overhyped and when it was released still got a lot of attention for a while, only recently people are slowly stopping to talk about it in my opinion it's just another GTA game without many additions compared to past entries
Pak O Agreed. I still launch the game from time to time, but my friends stopped playing so I'm slowly stopping myself as well. Plus, a random level 900+ hacker gave me $50M for no reason the day after christmas... I don't really have any goals to achieve now, so it's pointless to play GTA Online alone.
What if we already did? I really liked FE: Awakening. The plot was a tad bit rushed, and the game had some questionable balancing(Sorcerer is a bit too strong, being able to tank just about anything), but was a solid game overall. As a SRPG fan, I can honestly say that it's one of the best in the genre that I have played.
Awakening got boring towards the end, I got to like the 3rd to last level and never bothered finishing it. After clearing Radiant Dawn at least 5 times on Hard, Awakening was ludicrously easy. Pairing up units made them so overpowered and felt like it took away all planning, tactics, and thoughts behind my actions. Instead of worrying about letting enemies through my front lines, protecting weaker units, blocking off choke-points with my tanks and trying to get everyone leveled up because my over leveled units could still be taken out by one costly mistake, it boiled down to, pair pretty much anyone up with Owain and watch him kill every enemy without getting hit once. While this isn't necessarily bad or void of fun & entertainment, it took away much of the rewarding sensation I've gotten from past Fire Emblem games.
***** I think it's the realism of not being able to predict what life is gonna throw at you. In FireRed he knew the paths, the pokémon, what to expect in terms of moves and enemies. But doing a blind run takes all of that away. For us it may seem as a small addition to the tension of the game, but for him I bet it changed everything.
Yeah, that would kinda kill the fun in a game for me, at least if it wasn't a self-imposed challenge like the Nuzlocke. ...Or a no-death run in a Fire Emblem game. So many restarts…
2013 was a great year for the 3DS: Fire Emblem: Awakening, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Pokemon X/Y, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Bravely Default, and my personal favorite, Shin Megami Tensei IV.
I think Rayman Legends would have made your list had you played it, but other than that you had excellent choices! All games I've played or want to play.
Shawnee Campbell Infamous Second Son came out in 2014, not 2013 (did you mean 2014 or did the thought slip into your mind?) but nonetheless, a great game (the only one keeping my PS4 from being buried in dust) good choice! :D
Yup, its definitely on my top 10 list... in fact, I'd probably place it in the top 5. I absolutely loved it and thought it both lived up to the PS2 trilogy AND was just plain awesome. I honestly couldn't find a fault with the game. It was just a perfect slice of platforming.
i wanna bring attention to # 10. why is it that mario would be considered a "cop out" answer? especially with the amount of people that have been complaining about the NSMB series. has mario reputation really just turned into something like this. im glad 3D world seems to be bringing him out of it but still i just think that saying a game is good because its "[insert a franchise]" isnt a real reason. if anythings a cop out that explanation is.
I`m quite suprised how pokemon and animal crossing aren`t on this list and how mario 3d world wasn`t higher considering how well you told about these games...
Thank you for not including GTA V. What a overrated, glitched and bugged piece of software it is. Still a okay game but no worthy contender for the Game of the Year IMO.
THANK YOU, i can't say it was disappointing because i never gave a shit about it, for a big world it's so damn dull and the 60% of wildlife is so boring
I'm a long time GTA fan and GTA V to me was even worse than GTA IV. At least GTA IV had a soul and style, GTA V is just a soul less mess with all the problems that have plagued GTA since the PS2 era that Rockstar still won't fucking fix!
MH3U is your top favorite? i dont know what i was expecting, but im glad i ever subscribed to you Jared as were the last push i needed to buy MH3U and i have not regretted my decision. i bought it earlier this year yet only started playing it a few weeks ago, but im glad im having a great time with it. THANKS PRO-J!
THANK YOU Jared for not including GTA V in this list! My god am I tired of everyone praising that overhyped violence glorifying crap. Not to mention that he knows how to appreciate good Japanese developed games in contrast to the average youtuber.
"HEY GUYS LOOK, I DON'T LIKE GTA V, I'M SO EDGY AND COOL BECAUSE GTA V IS TOO POPULAR AND MAINSTREAM FOR ME SINCE I'M ONE OF THE COOL, EDGY KIDS, AND I CAN'T HANDLE IT WHEN SOMEONE LIKES SOMETHING I HATE BECAUSE FUCK OPINIONS" -- You Also Jared hasn't played GTA V yet so...
''Hmm, i wonder which game is Nº1 for Jared... Pokemon? Nah, i don't think so. Ace Attorney: DD? Not sure about that. ARGH, THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS! *THAT music starts* ...Oh right. It's Jared.''
