Top Ten Most Awkward Pokémon

Since it’s the 20th anniversary of Pokémon, why not make a Pokémon-focused list that’s not my sprite “analysis” series I update annually. I like to look at designs, which has been a pretty popular topic since, well, the induction of Pokémon, so why not take a look at some of the awkward designs, both in appearance and backstory. This is not a negative list, but the Pokémon we may need to question more. It’s all just for fun since who doesn’t like to overanalyze?

I actually love Wartortle's design. His tail looks like a wave, and he looks cool! I don't want him to evolve lol!

Sudowoodo's concept is based off of petrified wood, which wood that has fossilized into rock. As for why a Rock type looks like a Grass type, maybe it is to scare away enemies since two of its weaknesses, Ground and Water, are weak to Grass.

The tangent on Wartortle's design makes so much more sense now that we know the final mon of its line was gonna keep the Minegame tail of Wartortle, but had it removed once Blastoise replaced it

fun fact: Blastoise suppose to be a non-evolving Turtle Pokemon and Warturtle had a different looking evolution who's tail looks like a wave. They decided to scrap the evolution and turn Blastoise into the evolution of Warturtle instead. twitter.com/DrLavaYT/status/1275970820741816320 In generation 2, the Shelter if Slowbro's tail or Slowking's head was intended to be caught. It's name suppose to be Turbin I think.

Combusken is the poster boy of awkward middle stages Kanto have the best set of starter's middle stages. Ivysaur, Charmeleon and Wartortle are so cool, Quilava is the best for gen 2, Grovyle for gen 3, Frogadier for gen 6

Fortunately in Shellders case, if Slowpoke becomes Slowking, then it gets its pain ended and its corpse lives on Slowking's head

I think the cool thing about the first few generation of Pokémon starters is that their middle stages look cool as standalone Pokémon. So much so that I actually prefer the look of Bulbasaur and Ivysaur compared to Venusaur. I appreciate Venusaur as a Pokémon, but I wish it was a bit more sleek or less “round” looking. I think it’s just the wide head and mouth of Venusaur that bother me.

Honestly, I kinda interpret the Sudowoodo line as sort of tricksters. Bonsly are known for crying fake tears to try to trick people into take pity on them, and Sudowoodo stand still in inconvenient places to mess with people in a well-meaning way

Game - Magnemite turns into Magneton on level 30. ( Does not need additional Magnemites to evolve (somehow).) In the anime - Three Magnemites fuses parts and brain, forming one brain for whole. Each horse magnet of each Magnemite becomes even tinier... shrinks.

The funny thing is well most middle stage evolutions look like teenagers odly enough quilava and marshtop don't look as awkward as they shouldm chikorita's whole line looks akward but they are supposed to.

Maybe Nintendo realized Porygon was a nice guy in the end since Pikachu thundershocking missiles coming toward the characters riding the Porygon in that episode caused the flashing lights rather than Porygon himself.

She's pretty awkward. There were a lot I left off that fit the bill of an awkward Pokémon (especially with Jynx's proneness to kissing everything. It makes it awkward for all involved).

Well she is based on a Yuki-Onna (snow woman) It was band because they assumed they were making fun of black women. Good projection & Pareidolia. The early generations were based on creatures of asian folklore and natural occurring animals and plants. With the recoloring of the skin it just makes it look like an awkward drag queen.

Lmao! I also thought that mega Blastoise looks like it would be liable to topple over when I saw it when it was first revealed alongside the mega evolutions for the other 2 gen1 starters. I also don't like the weird fin-like protrusion it has coming off it's chin or the shells on it's arms much, either. It just looks too much like it was made to look more powerful with little thought put into anything else.

Hilariously enough, Wobbuffet is actually based off a comedian who said a line that translates to "that's the way it is, ma'am!" in Japanese; which is why Jessie wound up getting one in the anime. It also takes inspiration from punching bags, if you didn't already know; which actually explains a lot of the moves it can learn, most notably Counter and Mirror Coat.

Incorrect, Wartortle is one of my favorites (along with a lot of the middle evolution starters). I even stated in that segment that I like Wartortle and saying a Pokémon is awkward does not mean it's bad. If you're just joking, then whoops, I took your joke seriously.
