Calling Junko a psychopath is like saying Superman is a little strong

A psychopath is great at hiding in plain sight. That’s the key difference from sociopaths.

One thing: Hazama and Terumi are two different characters. Hazama was created as an artificial human to contain Terumi’s soul and act as his hiding place while he spins his plans, but he has his own personality and goals separate from his passenger’s. In fact, as of Central Fiction, they’ve been separated into two bodies. Hazama’s a cruel evil fun troll too, but he’s not even half as bad as Terumi.

I think the best way to describe the No.1 pick is this. She would do literally everything everyone else on the list would do if she had the chance to do so.

Manfred Von Karma couldn’t have the bullet removed from his shoulder because it would likely have been turned over to the authorities, and eventually be matched to the bullet extracted from Gregory Edgeworth. Plus, it would leave a doctor as a witness to testify if he was ever brought to trial for DL-6. For Von Karma, It was either implicate himself now, or implicate himself later. And because of the statute of limitations on murder, he chose later. He was playing the long game, counting on the statute of limitations expiring on DL-6 before having the bullet removed. It was purely logical on his end…. He really did commit the perfect crime. He just didn’t account for the protagonist.

The funny thing is that for No. 2, he’s also in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle who you can pair with Idachi (who was No. 10) so you can have 2 playable psychopaths as a team. Jesus. I can see how No. 1 got the spot. That is a legitimately scary villain.

I really shouldn't be surprised that Number 1 is a politician. But even then, JEEBUS CHRISTMAS!

I've seen several people say Junko doesn't count for various reasons. I love Josh, but I gotta disagree here. I know he's not super familiar with the secondary material in the series. 1. Junko's 'insane' antics are not real. Monokuma is not her real self either. She puts on quite a few personalitys and switches constantly to keep herself from getting bored and to keep her foes on edge. On the rare occasions we see the 'real' Junko, she's just as cold and detached as what you're looking for. 2. Yes she was born this way. She herself confirms 'she cried tears of total despair' when she was born(and yes, she can remember it). And Danganronpa 0 confirms she was manipulating people and poisoning adults as a Toddler. Also she sent Mukuro off to train to be her personal attack dog when they were 8/9 years old. 3. Junko acts as 'extra' as she does in the games because by that point she's already won, and most of those people no longer remember her anyway. We see her facade active fully in Danganronpa 3, where she wins and succeeds in ending the world using what she stole from Mitarai and Matsuda. And in DR0 we see how she ruined Matsuda's life to turn him into a loyal asset and then engineered the worst possible ending for him with Ryoko. And in DR-IF, she drops the act while talking to Mukuro, and even Mukuro is caught off guard at just what her sister is really like. I believe you've said before you've only played the games once and never saw DR3(Not V3 the non-canon game, 3 the anime that follows up on 2's ending in the future arc and explains what happened before DR1 in the despair arc), and yeah on a first playthrough if you don't play close attention I can see her being mistaken for just 'crazy'

I get leaving Vaas and Kefka off the list(Vaas is completely out to lunch and while Kefka was always a POS what happened to him made it worse), but Junko is not crazy or insane. She puts up personality’s to entertain herself. She is very much a psychopath and she gets worse and worse the closer you look at her. Her true personality fits the cold and uncaring qualified to a tee

I think Xemnas still could have worked. I hold that what 3D revealed doesn't change how Ansem SOD and Xemnas were in their respective games. They may have been subtly guided by what Xehanort wanted, but their own desires and personalities drove them forward without realizing the ultimate goal until they were called to the future. And once they realized the truth, they just went along with it rather than have everything they worked for be crushed by the harsh truth of them being manipulated.

Shout out to the big bad from the fourth Ace Attorney game. Kristoph Gavin seriously stands out from other Ace Attorney villains, if only because of how strangely serious and seemingly calm he always looks. Basically take everything Josh said about Von Karma, and add the little extra ingredient of Black Psyche-locks As established in Dual Destinies, they only appear when someone is hiding a secret even they themselves aren't aware of. When asked about why he killed the victim from the first case, who turned out to be a defendant that dismissed him in an earlier case in favor of Phoenix, Black Psyche-locks appear on Kristoph. The general consensus is that these locks appeared because Kristoph is so far gone, that through his own ego and arrogance, he convinced himself that he did nothing wrong. Von Karma's a pretty good choice too, if only because his presence throughout the series is greater, but I have to give props to Kristoph for being such an intensely rotten man, despite his brief appearance

Every argument you could use against Junko would either also apply to other 'eccentric' psychopaths like Terumi or Flowey, or is disproven by the secondary media that delves into Junko's true personality.

How did The Dark Urge not make this list and Cazador did? I love how The Dark Urge origin puts the role of psychopath in YOUR hands to decide how to go about it. While it's fun to fully sink into the evil impulses of the route, I prefer the redemption path because I think it's a good portrayal of struggling against the psychopath within yourself rather than a separate entity.

In the case of number 1, especially since I played Not for Broadcast, it's freaking ironic that I enjoyed Peter Clement a lot more. His drunken antics, his sailor mouth, and his temper towards certain situations. At least he was himself, which is more than I can say about miss Salisbury steak. Shoot, given the choices you make in the game, one of the people that dies in the explosion could be your own daughter. Christ!

I will say that I don’t fully agree with Junko not being on the list because she’s ‘crazy’. Her unhinged personality you said made her ‘insane’ is very clearly a facade to keep her from getting bored. So is Monokuma. We meet her true self at the end of the first game, very cold, very sterile, just wants to end the world for a quick bit of entertainment. The creator themself calls her one. Specifically, she's a Sadistic Psychopath(which despite which some of the other commenters think aren't completely different things, Sadistic Psychopaths are a thing, and no they aren't the same thing as sociopaths). And we actually know not only she was born that way, but we can pinpoint exactly why. She's a psychopath because of her talent, Ultimate Analyst. She's literally known everything that is going to happen since she was a baby, it makes her bored. Despair is not predictable. She's a sadist(and also a psychopath again) because of defects in the pleasure and pain part of her brain, though this is also contributing to the psychopathy. We can confirm these are both true because we have other cases. Hajime wasn't a psychopath, but after he got Ultimate Analysis and became Kamakura he absolutely was(he eventually pulled himself out of it, but that was after years of working with Junko and it's implied the fact he had the 'Ultimate Hope' talent in him alongside some remnants of Hajime is what saved him). Chisa wasn't a sadist or a psychopath until Junko played ice-pick lobotomy with her brain and messed with the part of her brain that's messed up. Then she was. In-fact this also implies that even without the talent mentioned above she'd still be a Psychopath. Chisa became both a sadist and a psychopath after the surgery, and was able to keep her head down and convince the whole future foundation everything was fine for years even as she was sabotaging their operations and occasionally murdering toddlers on the side for a quick laugh. She can also induce the latter with brainwashing(either long and slow like with Monaca or with stolen technology like Class 77), but that can be undone. What she did to Chisa was unfixable. Also, Junko feeling 'empathy' and wanting to share her despair with others because she thinks it's for the best? That's a lie she tells people like Mukuro or Monaca. Mukuro tries to talk to her on her level after her betrayal in Danganronpa IF and Junko after a bit of goofing around just drops the act entirely and tells Mukuro she's going to enjoy watching her die after seeing how much Mukuro still loves her. Speaking of DR-IF, there's a single line in there that confirms Junko was the one who ordered Mukuro to run away on a vacation when she was 9(Junko was 8 at the time), and that Junko was already planning to unleash despair upon the world at this point. So at least since she was 8. DR0 actually pushes that back further. Junko at Age 5 was working to manipulate her best friend, Matsuda, into becoming loyal and dependant on her. She did this by poisoning his mom to make her sickly and borderline-dementiac, and then gaslighting and manipulating him into losing her other friends. This is because Matsuda(alongside being an easy target like her sister) was already showing promise as a Neurological prodigy and thanks to her talent Junko could predict he'd grow up to be the best in the world. Matsuda is the one who gave Junko mind erasing technology, and it was the combination of his research and the animation techniques that she stole from Mitarai that would allow her to create both brainwashing videos and 'un-alive yourself' videos. If you think Junko is crazy, you've fallen for the facade she puts on to entertain herself and make people uncomfortable. If you think she's delusional and thinks despair is better for other people, you've fallen for the lie she tells her close followers like Mukuro, Matsuda, and Izuru Kamakura. Not even Mukuro truly understood Junko, that's the entire plot of DRIF. So using her words as evidence of her not being a psychopath is a bad idea.

Oh wow, didn't think I would ever see Not For Broadcast here! I played through it once and loved it, wish it had more players. It does have replayability, but man does it drag, it's not a short game. I mean it's not a bad thing, but with 14 different endings and one playthrough taking maybe 6 hours? Good luck, heh.

Having played Not For Broadcast this year, I agree Julia deserves the top spot. Especially since one career psychopaths IRL gravitate towards to is politics (and being a lawyer, which was Julia's prior career before going into politics). So yeah, unlike a majority of characters on the list, people like Julia actually exist.

I like to give a mention to MAIK, the main villain from World's End Club a super computer and AI, that was created by the father from 1 of the main characters with the goal of solving world problems, like preserving the Earth's environment but through a simulation, MAIK determined that in order to do that, humans need to be stopped but instead of simply killing them, MAIK instead created a method to remove humanities emotions, and locked them away so that nature can return to normal

I've never heard of Not For Broadcast... But HOLY (YAY)! She's more evil than Senator Armstrong!

Eh, for Ace Attorney I would have gone for the true mastermind of Kenji 2: Simon Keyes. Not only he did exactly what Manfred did but in a bigger scale, but he also got everything he wanted as well. Knightley? Killed as planned. Patricia Roland? Arrested for the murder of Knightley, also as planned. Blaise Debeste? Arrested for the murder of Jill Crane, also as planned as well. And Di-Jung-Huang's body double? Killed on a lucky encounter. He not only managed to mastermind the entire game, but he also played a warden of a prison, a High Prossecutor and a President (the body double had arrange things so that he would be seen as the president of Zeng Fa) as his puppets. Even Miles Edgeworth was acting as planned! By the time Miles manages to catch him, he already won.

Gonna assume you aren’t super familiar with Danganronpa lore. Junko is a creator confirmed psychopath. She’s cold and uncaring, she just puts on a looney persona to keep herself from getting bored. The spin-off materials (specifically the prequel novel Zero, the AU novel IF, and the DR3 anime) makes it clear what she is. She actually has a ton in common with Number 2 and Number 1, except The Tragedy killed more than half of humanity and destroyed all the pre-existing nation states. Julia could only hurt her own country.

I’m glad to see Gary Smith from Bully got the pick instead of Trevor Phillips from GTA V. I hear people calling Trevor a psychopath when he is more of a sociopath. Psychopaths and sociopaths are not the same people no matter how much the terms are conflated. Psychopaths are incapable of feeling empathy for others even if they wanted to. At least sociopaths have friends and family members they care about. Trevor is loyal to Franklin, Lamar, Lester, Patricia, Michael (when he admits fault) and Michael’s family. Michael’s son Jimmy calls Trevor “Uncle T” because how much he cares about him. A psychopath like Gary doesn’t value loyalty. Trevor is insane, but he will kill you only if you betray him or annoy him enough like what he does to Johnny Klebitz. Gary is a sane, sadistic, manipulative, narcissistic, and unempathetic. There is no person Gary shows empathy or loyalty towards as everyone is a pawn to his ends. Trevor is a SOCIOPATH and Gary is a PSYCHOPATH.

To describe manga Cyrus you could say that he’s a man with two key interests. The complexity of machinery and ancient history. He learned and was enamored with the origins of sinnoh specifically of the lake trios concept of wisdom will and emotion. However due to this and his aforementioned lack of emotion he saw the world as incomplete, always lacking in one of the three concepts so his entire ambition was to remake the world so it could be whole embodying all three concepts once again for peace. It wasn’t until the climax and aftermath of the Diamond and Pearl arc after witnessing the three main characters embodying all three aspects (dia for emotion, pearl for will, and platina for wisdom) Cyrus comes to his conclusion that even if the individual is incompleteone can feel completion when surrounded by others who care for you. Another contrast between game and manga Cyrus is their impression of giratina. While game Cyrus was enamored by the antimatter Pokémon manga Cyrus rejected it as an affront to his desire of completion almost acting like the empty void he wishes to fill.

Fun thing about Flowey, he gets even scarier in Undertale Yellow, where he is even more manipulative to Clover and gives an even more nightmarish final neutral fight in Meta Flowey. A fight that, according to what I heard, took an entire YEAR to code and animate!

Here's another hidden gem Psychopath from gaming Dr. Angus Bumby, "Alice: Madness Returns" Bumby serves as Alice's therapist who helped her forget about her traumatic past about the fire that killed her family which may or may not be Alice's fault. But as she journies into her Wonderland, secrets have been revealed that it was actually Bumby who caused the fire, after he r&*#ed Alice's sister. So he used hypno therapy to help her forget everything to cover his tracks and if Alice attempted to remember she would feel guilt as she blamed herself for the burning of her home. If that wasn't horrible enough, he used the Foster Home for children he was working at to hypnotize children into mindless sex slaves. He felt no compassion for the youth, and only cared about making a living out of the lives of orphans. Even being confronted by Alice in the real world, Bumby admitted to it all including assaulting her sister brushing her off as a tease who wanted him at the end. Even after being told she will turn him in, Bumby confirmed no one will believe a former asylum patient over a therapist. So with no alternative, Alice pushed him infront of a train, avenging her family and ending his evil.

I'm surprised Dimentio didn't make the cut, given how subtle his scheme was.

Kind of amusingly I wouldn’t say that Terumi is a psychopath… he’s too volatile and emotional. He’s capable of forming connections with other people even if it only ever is hate. You could make the case for high-functioning sociopathy instead, given his violent mood swings and reactions to other people, especially when they call him out on his bullshit. His longtime host, arguably the closest thing he has to a friend Hazama on the other hand… is a textbook psychopath. He literally is detached from the sensation of ‘feeling’ trying to comprehend the concept of pain because that’s the only ‘feeling’ he’s ever truly experienced. By the end of Central Fiction he makes the comprehension of suffering his meaning, because that’s what defines his existence separate from Terumi. The most feeling he can ever drum up is mild disgust or dislike, mostly of the truly empathetic and kind characters that are antithetical to his comprehension of life. The man has such little emotional capacity that causing enough pain to die over hundred times is little more than an experiment, not born out of malice but mere curiosity. He’s capable of feigning a semblance of social behaviour in a way that Terumi never has the self-control to do (hence why Hazama is his masquerade personality).
