Thank you. I'm a Brit (Birmingham), and I've been to Canada (Toronto). Such civilised, modest people. Except when the home team is playing, but that's fair enough.

You're a lovely ambassador for Canada, Amanda. And you're starting to develop just the hint of an English accent. Thanks for the video - and the complimentary views about London: we Brits need to be reminded from time to time that there are FAR worse places to live................ ! Actually, I think we're a bit spoiled in some ways - and take SO much for granted.

London is an amazing city, but if you don't have friends there it can be one of the loneliest places on Earth. This lovely Canadian lady obviously made friends at work, which gave her any entry into socialising in pubs. But you can make friends outside of work. She's right, Londoners are generally friendly, but they respect other people's privacy. So if you find yourself alone, you need to find someone like yourself & start chatting. Just saying you're new in town & alone might be enough for them to invite you to join them the next time they're going out. Pub quizzes are a great way to meet people. And the safest for young single ladies. I spent two years in London as a student, so making friends wasn't a problem. Plus I'm Irish, we can make friends with a lamppost. But if you're a young female coming to London to work, maybe what I've written will come in useful in the future. London's a fantastic place to live, if you have a circle of friends near where you live.

It's great to hear that from a Canadian perspective, but it felt like you slightly put down your own culture. I've never actually visited but, for the record: * You guys ARE actually the nicest foreigners I've met. You're also outwards looking which is great * For such a small population, you make amazing music, and it's so varied * You have some of the best humour I've heard, and that's worth everything * You have that curd food. I've not tried it but my friends say it's amazing

I'm a Brit - but not a Londoner - and I agree with you about public transport especially in London. Like you say, a lot of people in London moan about it, but they shouldn't. London has the most extensive public transport system of any city on the planet - in the central area you're ALWAYS within walking distance of a tube station - and Londoners will soon to get a multi billlion pound way to get across the city with Crossrail. Londoners - please stop moaning about transport in your city (if you do), you don't know how lucky you are.

Possibly, but at least you have a train in which to insert your face in someone's armpit. Most of the rest of the country has to do it on the bus, or have to wait to get home to get some facio-axilliary action.

Flierfy I was focussing on rail as that's what we were discussing here. London has getting on for 700 rail stations (heavy rail, tube and DLR combined) I'll accept there's an element of double counting as I'm counting interchanges seperately for each, but still, what other city in the world has that many?

Thank you so much for this. :-) I was born in London, but have lived in Australia since I was four, returning to the UK a few times on holiday, the last time being last year (soon after you posted this video). I've long had a desire to try living somehere in England, and I'll be heading there to do that late August, initially in Croydon, London. I admit to being anxious in some ways as the date's been getting closer, and have been looking for just a bit of a pick-me-up to remind myself of some of the reasons of why I wanted to move there in the first place. This helps a bit. :-) Thank you.

As a Brit and a Londoner, I complain about most of the things that you have mentioned except for the diversity (I was one of three out of thirty people in my class who originated from Britain which was great because there was no racism or xenophobia ever. We all just accepted each other) but I also love the history. It's great.

being from the south west of England I completely agree There is no where like London, its hard to describe but the place has a buzz about it. My Canadian relatives came over and where blown away, If you are going to come over I would save as much as you can, tiny there is so much choice! But London is very expensive compared to the rest of the country, my top tips would be ; * keep an eye out on line or at your hotel etc for flyers and leaflets as most will have two for one or discount vouchers for attractions. * try a hop on off bus ride they have great commentaries u get to see a lot in a short time plus it often comes with discounts too * if u want to go to the theater head to the "bucket shops" in the main theater district as long as you aren't too fussy about where u sit it will save u loads. *try a river boat cruise a nice way to sit and relax (often included in the bus tour) *grab lunch meals from places like marks and spencer / boots / tesco etc and head to one of the parks cheaper and weather provided nice to kick back and saves £s *keep change for the loos, no idea why but most public wc's charge. Ooh and try to avoid tubes at rush hour particularly with little kids or suitcases it's mental like a cattle market! (Sorry that turned out way longer than I expected lol) I hope you have a great time if you do make it over :)

I can't quite figure out where she could possibly be from in Canada. It is so diverse here, everyday I take the train with multiple nationalities, along with living in a very diverse community. We have great pubs/bars - not just dive bars, as she makes it sound. AND we have more than Oreo cookies. I do appreciate the point about vacation time. It's true! Same as their transportation system - it's awesome. The info on London stands on it's own, without making diminishing, inaccurate comparisons to Canada.

Hi Emily,yes it can be difficult if not from the EU. I moved to London from Canada under the Youth Mobility Visa. Which is a visa that the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand (and Japan I think) share with each other that young people (under 30) can live for one to two years in each others countries to experience a new country. For a American I think your options are 1. Do some education in the UK. 2. Get a job (sponsorship) 3. Marry someone. Good luck :)

But it seems to me that nobody much cares about native Americans :-/
@BadTrashBenji
@BadTrashBenji 10 лет назад
Actually the Romans just built on top of our roads and towns and erected their places of worship over ours, and when i say ours i mean the celts/etc. The druids and the celts have been on this island approx 4000 BC, at least but we can't be sure. People were living in the area of Stone Henge around 8000BC. The Celts actually stopped the invasion of the Romans for about 100 years until they got across. The romans liked to talk down about the civilisation here but we were actually getting on just fine. As we always have. And no one has come and wiped us out or taken control for good. People come, people go, we take what we want from those cultures and peoples and carry on. Same as usual, in little old Britain.
@BadTrashBenji
@BadTrashBenji 10 лет назад
curt Also, before the Native americans arived, there were apparently early europeans living there. There are ancient storie about how the indians literally wiped out all the red headed giants. There's a fair amount of problems with the finding of ancient bones, which predate the indians but the indians have rights to them and it's causing a fuss.

You know, London is not necessarily representative of all of the UK. It's the capital so it's fashion, infrastructure and night life and diversity etc...is bound to be better. I mean in my experience MOST Brits do make sure to dress well (in our generation) but London in particular. And there is diversity outside of London but it's nowhere near the level of London. And also....the 5 week off as standard in any job? That isn't true lol. It might eb true in London, I dunno, I haven't really lived in London but many jobs in the country would have 4 weeks or maybe even less. But I agree on the history point....it's a shame our younger generation (of Brits) really doesn't seem to care much for the history. There is SO MUCH history around the whole country :)

Interestingly, the diversity that thrilled this young woman is a big reason why 52% of Brits voted to leave the EU. Of course, London has always been a diverse city but when that diversity spread to small towns, that's when the trouble started. Locals were not ready for such an influx of foreigners. Even hearing them talking at bus stops would irritate locals who previously had NEVER heard a foreign accent on their High St. For a lot of older people the change happened too quickly. It would now appear that diversity, unfortunatey, seems to be tearing the UK apart.
