"When faced with the evils of this world, happiness can give you the foundation to bear it, sadness gives you the wisdom to acknowledge it, and anger gives you the strength to oppose it! So rise my friends, and BE ANGRYYY!!!!! " truer words have never been spoken. i hope you don't mind if i use this epic quote you just put forth.
Oscar about Doom Guy “When have you ever heard of demons having to seal someone away that’s something the good guys do” I guess the phrase “Acceptable Losses” has its limits even in hell
My gods, that finishing line is so damn inspirational. I'm gonna have to write that down. So I shall do so. "When faced with the evils of this world, happiness can give you the foundation to bear it, sadness gives you the wisdom to acknowledge it, and anger gives you the strength to oppose it! _So rise my friends, and BE _*_ANGRYYY!!!!!"_* - The Green Scorpion, 2018
River Greystoke II Seriously that's like a rallying cry of a leader of beserkers before a final battle they know they're going to lose at the end of a movie!
That ending, I was like "Oh this is gonna be cheesy" ...but then I was like "Wait a minute" "...Ah heck its actually really cool. ...gosh..darn it Oscar." fantastic video! Excellent work with it as always!
THAT. THAT was beautiful. That outro. That message. Tht unbridled FURY. *THAT* my friends is the EMBODIMENT of a berserker. Valiant. Honorable. Fearless. And 1000% PISSED. OFF.
Did any of us expect to hear the quite reserved Green Scorpion scream with fury? No. Am I glad he did? HELL YESS!!!! HOW CAN YOU NOT FOR THE LORDS OF FURY?!?! THE EMPERORS OF WRATH!!!!
10: Sort of reminds me of the Nords from The Elder Scrolls! 9: The best friend you can have who happens to not be hesitant about mounting your bully's head on your wall. 8: The classic space marine shooter badass! Who needs a cover system when you can RIP AND TEAR through the opposition's HUGE GUTS with BIG FREAKING GUNS?! 7: It says something about how angry Painwheel is when the ONLY way to make her anything close to happy is wish for her to have a happy life while the person who made that wish is condemned to slowly become the new Big Bad of the game's world. 6: He's like the Anthropomorphic Personification of all the overblown side effects people think Grand Theft Auto has on kids. 5: Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their women. 4: He's like a Berserker from Fate Stay. 3: Guys, we put Sans on a pedestal for screwing you over through Undertale's mechanics, but this guy doesn't let you get away with nuthin'! 2: What, did Kratos take death by irony lessons from Monokuma? 1: Dude doesn't care about your monologues, when the prompt appears, he WILL shut you up.
Holy shit man, the passion you put behind that ending, I'm actually in tears. That final speech needs to be in a fucking anime, movie, TV series, something. And say, I wonder if there are any cases where armor is a weapon, or at least shields
You ever see katana gatari long story short its anime in which a guy and a girl run around Japan looking for 13 cursed blades made by a master weapons Smith. One of said swords is a suit of armor that supposedly indestructible but also has blades on the sides so he can slice and dice while protecting himself at the same time so would that count
Honestly, if a Fate-universe Berserker were to have been mentioned on this list, I think *Lancelot* would have been the better option, simply due to his backstory. After Lancelot's affair with Guinevere was exposed, he betrayed Arthur by going to rescue Guinevere from execution, killing several of his fellow knights in the process. However, instead of Lancelot trying to avoid the blame for his actions, he *wants* to be blamed for his betrayal. But because Arthur couldn't bring herself to condemn Lancelot for his actions, and thus forgave him, Lancelot was unable to forgive himself. And in the end, he sought to escape from his guilt by descending into madness. And yet, when Lancelot learned of Mordred's betrayal, and that Arthur was to face Mordred at Camlann, Lancelot attempted to join Arthur's side....but Gawain turned Lancelot away. And then, when Lancelot later learned of Arthur's death while fighting Mordred, Lancelot was overcome with guilt and rage. Lancelot is a case of someone who committed wrongs, yes, but he was still sympathetic, and actually made attempts to atone....but tragically, he was never able to do so. And even more than that, is Lancelot's "Eternal Arms Mastership", which allows him to retain the full breadth of his fighting skills regardless of any mental interference, such as the Berserker's Mad Enhancement. This means that no matter how angry, and no matter how *insane* Lancelot becomes, his fighting skills will not be affected in a detrimental way whatsoever.
Also, Lancelot's Knight of Owner (I know its supposed to be Knight of Honor, but a mistake with the kanji turned it into that) makes literally any object he can hold and choose to "wield" a weapon equal to a Noble Phantasm. He could no-sell Gate Of Babylon by grabbing weapons out of the air and using them with masterful skill to deflect others. Hell, he once used KoO on a fighter jet in order to control it. Yeah, Lancelot was both badass and tragic.
Most games, and media in general, shows rage as a product of hate. One of the best themes of Asura's Wrath for me was showing that it can also come from love: Asura loves everyone so much that it infuriates him to see them suffer, and so he has to act
There's the possibility that a similar dichotomy of the beserker trope in the show RWBY between the main character Yang Xiao Long and the antagonist Adam Taurus. Both their abilities are centred around taking damage and dishing it out stronger; Yang's more passive (ironically) Rage semblance allows her to add the damage onto her own strength, although it doesn't keep her from getting hurt. If anything it turns her into a combat masochist. But sometimes moments of extreme anger can activate her semblance without the need for damage (like when her precious hair is slightly damaged). Meanwhile Adam 'edgiest thing on the planet' Taurus' unofficially named "Moonslice" directly absorbs damage via a conduit, his preferred method being his glowing red sword, and dishes it all out in one devastating attack. The main difference between the two is why they are angry. Yang, aside from serious abandonment/mummy issues, is moreso righteous anger. She'll defend herself, or more likely her family/friends, tooth and nail until they're safe and then go back to playing the fool so her loved ones can smile. Adam is a cun-Okay serious note. Adam uses the racism against his people to commit honestly hypocritical assaults on humans, innocent or not, and will kill off anyone to achieve his ambitions and claim that it's for the greater good of the Fauness...when it seems more like he's getting his rocks off as he get progressively more unhinged and angrier.
The Lannister's Banjo Bard Agreed! That’s my reason for liking Yang so much. If you hurt cut her hair, hurt her friends, or god forbid hurt her sister... You’re going to die. Painfully.
Personally I hate Adam as a character... But goddamn I love his fighting style, seriously, replace that horseleg lever action rifle with a shotgun and you've got me.
That outro gave me legitimate chills and changed how I saw berserkers. They were always that one simplistic, boring, staple class that were always there for just pure variety and nostalgia of other games. Holy shit oscar, this is by far in my opinion the best countdown or video you have ever done. Props guy, you outdid yourself. Ps did it take a lot of takes to get that ending scream right?
I usually record my voice in one sitting, but after such a long script, I had to record that scream during a separate recording session. And yeah, it took multiple takes, mainly because I had to control it in such a way that it didn't completely demolish the sound levels.
Brick from Borderlands is a Berserk. Heck, in Borderlands 2, he smashes everything with just his fist. Including shields that reflect ALL attacks. Edit: I JUST thought of someone else. Red Magnus from Disgaea 5. He always wants to fight instead of doing things peacefully. He can turn giant with his Overload, he can use axes as well. And his specials are just crazy.
Velvet Crowe from Tales of Berseria, Nekomaru Nidai or Sakura Ogami from Danganronpa 2, Any Fate Beserker (Arcueid from Fate/Extra for me), Guts from any Berserk game, and Starkiller from Force Unleashed are my picks.
I’m pretty sure you’ve heard this enough times already, but that last bit was just absolutely inspiring! I was genuinely moved to tears hearing this. I don’t know if it was because I was seeing clips from Asura’s Wrath, one of the best games in the world. Because the music was, and still is an incredible work of art. Or because your speech was just that amazing. But I can proudly say that this top ten was a absolute masterpiece.
My most memorable gameplay with Trevor on GTA V was when I swapped over to him after doing a Franklin mission, and Trevor had apparently stolen a scooter and found someone else on a scooter too, affectionately referring to him as "Scooter Brother."
What you said about berserkers still being wise albeit not necessary intelligent was insightful as hell, and your conclusion of them being full of rage for a reason got me thinking. Surprised to learn more from the zerkers than the mages.
Looking back at the Number 2 Entry here is kinda funny given how much Kratos tries to move on from his past behavior and avoid Ragnarok to just be left alone to raise his son in peace but the world around him forces him to unbury that past to protect Atreus. That last outro speech applies well to the newer Kratos, both older and wiser with age and a second chance at a family
when he mentioned borderlands I seriously thought kreig was going to be on the list because kreig is the literal embodiment of rage and anger and also is someone who is strong when taking damage. literally has a skill called bloodsplosion and release the beast which allows him to turn into a massive badass psycho with the highest melee damage in the entire game
- a onminus arua flows forth - no more ... No MORE INNOCENT BEING HURT CAUSE OF GODS WHO WON'T STAND BEFORE THE EVILS OF THIS WORLD !!!! - my fist ignites with the flame of my rage and I unlease it
i seen a few people do this but screw it its too awesome and choked me up When faced with the evils of this world, Happiness can give you the foundation to bear it, Sadness gives you the wisdom to acknowledge it, and ANGER gives you the strength to oppose it!! So rise my friends!! AND BE AAAANNGRYYY!!!!! 43:33
Nice video! Don't mess with you when you get mad, right??? Dark Kahn from MK Vs. DC Universe could have been a contender for this list, but then again he was half a VG character and the other half a licensed comic book villain. I could see how conflicting that would have been. Ah well, great work as always Sir Oscar! :)
Hey Oscar, just so you know, real berserkers are thought to likely have used drugs in order to go into their raged state. Also, when you started talking about Doom, you added some gameplay from Wolfenstein. Just saying. But i knew that Asura would be #1. And that ending just made me feel epic! Keep up the great work.
Yes, I do want to be that guy. Naming a hero whose main antagonist is Hera "Glory of Hera", is too awesome to toss aside for a Disney/Roman simplification.
43:33 this became the inspiration and personal mantra of my newest D&D character, the barbarian Kruz Thunderscar. Though with the addition "fear gives you the solace to survive it"
personally I used to never be a rager character, but then I played a wolfkin in D&D and had a combo that let me infinitely combo so long as I killed a target. We ran into a spider nest before that had an insane number of spiderlings which have 1 hp each. C_C_C_COMBO!
Yep. Legion kicks ass in this category. Especially with his heroes kit. He has Fury, which boosts all his stats in exchange for sapping HP with every combat engagement, and also has reprisal, which boosts his damage by a percentage of his missing HP. The damage he takes fuels the damage he deals.
As messed up as Painwheel is from Skullgirls but I absolutely love her in the mobile game The ability to get enraged and just go ham on your opponents is mind boggling
Grunt from Mass Effect 2, armed with a shotgun and his Krogan racial ability to harden his skin he'll charge into the line of enemy fire with no fear while shouting "I...am...KROGAN!!!!" The Krogan are bullet sponges in general, but when they activate Blood Rage they become a nigh invulnerable force of nature that attack with the force of a tank and similar to Tryndamere's undying rage ability, when Grunt's hp is depleted he doesn't die right away (he literally gets so angry that he regenerates from most mortal wounds just to continue the fight). I debated whether to go with Wrex instead, but Grunt's the charging brick wall that everyone would want on their six
.......... I REALLY need to play Asura's Wrath now.... I need to see how awesome this character dynamic is, despite if it's a hack n' slash game... or in this case, punch n' smash XD!
Lets be honest, nobody could fit number one more than Asura. He is by far the most angry character i've ever seen in not only video games but all of fiction.
Sees Velvet: "Heh. Finally." Realizes Barbatos, a character from an imported Tales game, will be here instead: "OH HELL YEAH!!!" Oscar, you're now a blood brother of the JRPG fandom, or in purer terms, a true weaboo. Just like we all should be.
Man it bin some time watching one of your top ten video's any video really but there always a blast to watch. After this top ten i kinda want to see some form of a monster month but class based (bards, paladins, rogues/thieves and ect.) or role based (healers, tanks, dps and supports). maybe it because if played a lot of hero shooter or other class based games these days but it still be awesome to see.
Total Warhammer 3 came out quite a while after this video was made, but I say Skarbrand the Exiled should be here. He’s a demon made of hate and rage and wants nothing more than to rampage across the world, claiming the skulls of all he surveys for his lord Khorne, which is exactly what you do in his campaign. He himself hits like an angry truck and his factions play style is all about wild abandon. No range, no magic, just pure, brute violence. He doesn’t really take territory, he just burns anything more sophisticated than a boulder to the ground and move onto the next fight. Economy and trade? What are those? He and his whole faction spit on weak ideas like “strategy” and “diplomacy”… in a grand strategy game! Furthermore, his faction is the only one I’ve ever seen in any strategy game with a mechanic that spawns an _enemy_ army right near you for the sole purpose of fighting them.
Lu Bu may use anger, but it's more the idiotic mindless type of anger. Lu Bu's like a human Bowser, except angry and is GROWING a kingdom, rather already having one. What I mean is that Bowser, despite being nigh impossible to kill and has the strength of Atlus, has the brains of a doughnut and always underestimates people to the point of think huge flaws in his plans are just tiny notches that can be overlooked, which eventually lead to his downfall. Lu Bu is basically the same, but the execution isn't light-hearted and hilarious.
I actually have a theory about Doom 2016 That Doom Guy has at this point become a demon Theres a lesser known myth (from Shintoism I think) in which if someone were to kill 1000 demons, they would become a demon themselves That's what happened to Prier from La Pucelle, so I could see it happen to Doom Guy Through the slaughter, an unstoppable demon was birthed, so terrible that even Hell itself quakes in his presence
So, I had a weird idea for a countdown. Whenever you talk about something like Ace Attorney in weapons month and the like, you refer to it as a battle of wits. So how about a Top Ten Video Game Logic Fighters? You might have to work on the name (top ten logicians? Intelligent fighters?) but the basic idea is characters who fight by outsmarting their opponents. Characters like Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton, and someone from Danganronpa would work, but you could also include characters that focus on traps, or play their opponents into their hands, something akin to Joseph Joestar.
Oghren is the best dragon age companion and one of my top 3 fave video game people outright so he would've been my choice for the dragon age berserker slot
21:20 Tyrael is pronounced Tee-ray-elle. And Arreat is pronounced Ar-ree-aht. At least according to the gatewarden of Sescheron who was slaughtered by Baal in the Act Five cinematic of Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction. I apologize; I'm far too much of a meticulous and particular nerd.
