I’m so happy that 999 made it on to the list! I was actually going to recommend you look into it if you hadn’t brought it up. And to the rest of you reading this comment, I highly suggest you look into it. It’s part on of a trilogy known as Zero Escape.

I did listen to you the first time around. I did play Ghost Trick. I couldn't drop it for the three days I took to play it. Such a great game, and the twist was genuinely unique. The game cleverly uses its 2D perspective to hide stuff from the player and that's all I'll say.

Danganronpa and Ace Attorney? Danganronpa and Ace Attorney. I was so happy to see those in the top two. Personally, I would’ve put something different for the Danganronpa entry, namely the first case of V3. It may not be the most deep, or the most complex, but it was the one that royally f*cked my mind the most. A murder with enigmatic evidence, an unconvential method, and everyone has a rock-solid alibi. BUT THAT REVEAL.

If you liked 999 you're going to _love_ the sequel Virtue's Last Reward. That game is honestly one of the most immaculately written stories I've ever experienced. Nothing in that game happens without a reason or without that reason making perfect sense. It's honestly baffling.

YES! MY PATREON SUGGESTION! stay tuned for an edit on my thoughts on the countdown. I did actually consider making this countdown myself once, but just didn't have the inspiration for it. I don't recall being contacted, just writing that "I love a good mystery, and there has to be more than just AA and Danganronpa out there." 10. I do keep hearing this game mentioned, but I just haven't been able to find the game for myself. 9. I really wish I could get back into this franchise. My interest just sort of tapered out at the start of Lost Future, and nothing ever got me back into it. 8. Yeah, that was actually going to be an entry for my list. I do especially like how it'll let you just be wrong about the answer. Although my trip to the bad ending wasn't from picking the wrong person, I suspected correctly all along, it was from that discussion tree minefield where only one specific dialogue branch will continue the game. 7. This series just doesn't interest me. I think it's the ESRB rating that disinterests me in it... that and I don't like the dialogue-style adventure that Telltales seems to have become obsessed with. Still, your point on being somewhat familiar with the characters already brings to mind something a DR review said: they're stereotypes, so the game doesn't need to focus on developing the characters, and can focus on developing the mysteries. 6. ...When will developers get it into their heads that we hate quick time events? The only time they're acceptable is in games based around them. A good story can't save poor gameplay 5. Silent Hill. Another series I know lots about, and still don't have interest in playing. But I can tell that it has a well constructed conundrum there. 4. Pretty sure that's another entry I would have made. And yeah, it's really good at catching you off guard with its twists. It makes you wish you could forget about it so you could enjoy playing it again... but then again, half the fun of a mystery is to experience it a second time knowing the answer. 3. My cousin actually sent me this game once, I believe. I've never played it. I should probably change that. 2. When I first constructed my list, Danganronpa was definitely going to be one of the top two. I got it down to cases 1-4 and 2-5, and after a careful analysis, decided that 1-4 was the better mystery. Then a few days ago, I was thinking about it, and realised the overall mystery of the first game was probably superior... so it's ironic to see it here as well. Each chapter's case is so intense and memorable, the questions behind the major plot sort of fall to the side each time, but once it's all in place, it's a great case. 1. Huh. I'd personally pick the third game's final case, because it felt like the series was always building up to that point, and I think the second game's final case does a better job of building up who Wright really is. That, and I played a used DS copy of the original game, so it was mildly let down by me knowing that more was coming (not to mention I played investigations first, so I knew Miles was going to get around these charges). Now, all that said, Ace Attorney is absolutely worthy of the top spot, and this is an exceptionally good case. Pretty much a fantastic countdown, like always. Although I think the best mystery-themed music is Clueless in Seattle from Gex: Deep Cover Gecko.

I won't mention the big plot twist either, but when I did learn about it by watching my fav let's player, my jaw dropped!!! It's really cruel and just heartwretching too! 9. Pyramid Head's theme just gives me the chills! Yeah I don't do horror either so I am never playing this game but I did find out what was happening and it's bone chilling. 4. Mmmm, I may check it out, but it looks like it has a time mechanic, which happens to be my biggest pet peeve in gaming. Hell, it's why I never got Majora's mask. 3. I don't think I'll get this game because I don't want a tear jerker game. 2. *Sees 1st second of #2* ABOUT BLOODY TIME YES!!!! I wondered if you did 999, then you probably did DR! No surprise you picked the first game since if you go in blind there's NO way you can predict the outcome right away. And omg creating 15 unique characters that stand out and even after the first murder, they're all so memorable! I LOVE this franchise from the anime to the games! Kodaka is a MAD GENIUS! And dude, careful I saw a few potential spoiler shots there from the Class trial. Surprised you didn't make a Phoenix Wright comparison since the trial and investigating sections have reminded people of them. 1. Well, Speak of the Devil lol. This franchise had to be #1 if DR was #2. While I've known about this series for awhile, I only got into it when Dual Destinies came out and I love that game lol. This series does know how to balance comedy and drama very well hehe. After hearing your explanation I can see why you pick this mystery at number 1. Great list and looking forward to your Betrayal Countdown. That's some of the best plot twists in a game hehe.

Nice one, Oscar! There's some interesting irony to doing this kind of list since countdown videos tend to tie themselves to a holmesian fallacy (i.e. that you have identified and played and judged EVERY game with mysteries). I can't deny I'm disappointed that you didn't go to deconstruct the individual elements of intrigue that make the telling of a mystery, but doing what it took to preserve the suspense of the actual "mystery" was a great call.

25:49 "to the moon" is no joke the reason I got a Steam account was just to get this game. And here's another kicker I have yet to finish it. However simply on one of the songs I've heard from this game and the trailer I could already tell what kind of game this was going to be. And you may think this is ridiculous but I could see this as a movie through Tom Hanks in there he's always good for these kind of movies.

So I just finished Ghost Trick. I don't know how anyone is supposed to figure out that twist. The game is fantastic and I would highly recommend playing it.

Ah yes, Silent Hill 2. The best in a series that suits my horror tastes, suits someone who likes being disturbed rather than scared. I would totally love it... “Would”. Sadly, I don’t own it.

I find Danganronpa actually more inmature than Ace Attorney not for style or the like but the main cuprit and other little bits like that sorry if this ends up a bit of a spoilers but Ill explain the reasons the MM does things and the contradiction in it while avoiding its spoilerindentity as much as possible SPOILER the MM says its Ultimate Despair, that its never known failure and thus only knows despair thus wants to drown everything into despair, but thats the contradiction the MM has yet to see, if its so perfect it failed to grasp the simplest of concepts itself, and that is a failure into its motive of wanting Failure, after all, the only way to know despair is to know hope just as to know love one must know hate, so the MM actually never moved even once for Despair but from Hope, the Hope of failing by the way it gets more complex because the oposing feeling to all feelings, Hope, Despair, Hate, Love and all others is not what one asume its contradicting emotion, but Apathy, absolute lack of interest of any sort, so if the MM had trully only ever known despair and hand had even the tiniest shred of hope inside then it would never had done anything for all that would remain would be apathy to life that never let it experience failure, in the end, what it wanted and obtained its not what it tough, the MM tough that having failed it had finally obtained the ultimate Despair, but in reality, its greates hope had finally succeded, the fact that it wouldnt even understood something so simple is what made me feel like it was an extreamly childish mentality for a villian who acording to the story itself was perfect and for me it made the whole thing feel inmature, another one of thos black or white, also why I preffer the Ace Attorney villians since there is the trully human element to them, petty or not, theyre reasons is somethign I can believe from a human, but in the end thats just me

To be honest: Yes Danganronpa 1 has the best mystery, however, I also think it has the best cast of characters and is with V3 a really good game. But Danganronpa 2 is...well....ok I guess. Improved Hangedmans Gambit. Just no. And 2 was way to difficult. I could have never finished it without a guide since it was just too much. The only case where I think 2 was better than the other two was case 5. But all other cases were just better build in THH or V3. At least when compairing every case 1, every case 2 and so on.

Danganronpa 2's 5th Trial is still one of the greatest mysteries ever.

I have alot of respect for Green Scorpion for keeping these kinds of Countdowns as spoiler free as possible but I kind wish he would make more lists where he's allowed to go full-on spoilers.

I love that you included "To The Moon". This game has been my favorite indie game and it recently has a sequel. This game really showed me how amazing stories can be told through a game. I'm glad to hear that you've got an awesome experience with it. But I doubt you can ever hear the soundtrack without a small hit in the feels, especially "Everything's Alright".

Since you seemed to love 999, there's two other games in the series. Virtues last reward and Zero time dilemma. The last one is pretty violent though as a fair warning.

Have you played Finding Paradise, the sequel to To the Moon? I'd argue it actually has a somewhat better mystery than To the Moon. I mean, the hook isn't quite as strong, but the eventual twist and the solution to the problem that the doctors come up with is better set up and does a better job at recontextualizing the story up to that point. In general, the game is just as good as To the Moon - maybe not quite as much of a tear-jerker, but still emotionally cathartic in its own way, and, for me, a bit more thematically resonant.

I can think of some infamous possibilities for this list that will surely induce the wrath of some people and I swear to god that I'm really feeling you will know their names soon enough, and you'll never see it coming. Personally for me, my favorite mystery in Ace Attorney was the overarching plot of Investigations 2, it blew me away.
