As a long-time immigrant myself who saw the law being signed by Clinton and understood its ramifications, I will save your video for all my friends who think bringing in a mail bride (or several) is a great idea. I believe you'd get even more impact from your video from the most horrific situation possible, which you came short of describing: 1-The bride is a green-card digger, who stay married only while the process is ongoing before filling for divorce as soon as the green card enters her mailbox; 2 -then refuses to work (or more likely, will be an "independent worker", so that any income will be under the table and unaccounted for taxes or support purposes); 3-remarries immediately after divorce, so that all her expenses are taken care of by the next man; and finally, 4-stubornly refuses to naturalize, to work, to return to her country, and to die for the next 60 years. That culmination of horrors will have her unhappy sponsor pay her a million dollar for over half a century - for daring to have the fleeting dream of being a happy man.
First Terminating Event. The obligation under the Affidavit of Support concludes once the sponsored immigrant becomes a U.S. citizen. Second Terminating Event. The obligation under the Affidavit of Support concludes once the sponsored immigrant has worked or can receive credit for 40 quarters of work under the Social Security Act. Third Terminating Event. The obligation under the Affidavit of Support concludes once the sponsored immigrant is no longer a permanent resident and has departed the U.S. Fourth Terminating Event. The obligation under the Affidavit of Support concludes once the sponsored immigrant is subject to an order of removal but applies for and obtains in removal proceedings a new grant of adjustment of status based on a new affidavit of support, if required. Fifth Terminating Event. The obligation under the Affidavit of Support concludes upon the sponsored immigrant death.
The Affidavit of Support terminates if the sponsored immigrant loses their U.S. residency status and departs the country. But merely leaving the US does not terminate the I-864 contract. ~Greg
