I think a lot of us have been so hung up on losing the acceleration the original ride had..that we forgot just how intense going this fast is. Not to mention that speed is sustained and you’ll be going backwards. Longer ride time, backwards launch, extra air time, sustained speeds..looks like it’ll be insane. Seeing someone ride this actually got me excited. The fact Tony is speechless at the end says a lot. The first one jolted around a lot as well. Maybe not this much but I can’t imagine it being worse than the jolting on Kingda Ka.
I just don't understand why they didn't move the station forward and make the launch track shorter for a more rapid acceleration. Considering we're dealing with a swing launch this could have easily been achieved.
@@fyecoasters I get where people are coming from missing the original launch, but everything here points towards a far greater overall ride experience!
Comparing an actual ride to the POV Cedar Point showed us 8 months ago, it looks like its fairly close as far as height going up the rear spike, and looks like it goes a bit higher the first time up the tophat, may go a bit higher with a fully loaded train
What an amazing ride. I loved the original Top Thrill Dragster with the 0-120, but let me tell you this is a fantastic and wildly fun ride. I've rode it three times so far. Once in the front and two times in the back. Both were amazing but the back is epic since you get to the highest point possible of the spike. Going to be riding again tomorrow. I was skeptical about it at first until riding it despite thinking that the whole concept was cool. But this is well worth the wait!
@@fyecoasters yes for sure! I am thinking in May. I don’t even have a clue what I should ride first. I ride all types of rides so I’ll try to hit every ride I can ride. I am thinking of two straight days at least. I’m wondering if the fast pass or whatever it’s called there is worth it in May?
@@kellyoman2196 when I was a ride op 2 years ago I found the best time to go in terms of lines was the last week of August on a weekday. That week Steel Vengeance had at most a 45 minute wait (when most of the season was 2.5+ hours). I think it even got down to as little as a 20-30 minute wait. The park was virtually empty. I felt bad for the people who bought the fast lane for their visit
This looks awesome!! I've never been to Cedar Point so I never got to ride the original Dragster but I have ridden Kingda Ka. This looks like an even more insane ride than the original with that backwards launch. Can't wait to ride it!
110%! Always complaining because rides aren’t built to specifications how they think the ride should be. If it’s that much of an issue, then the ‘Thoosies can surely come up with the capital and resources to build the greatest coaster ever that will shatter every record known to man. 😂🤣😂🤣😂
@@fyecoasters I was just watching the video and I had that uplift feeling/butterflies in my stomach, and that was just a POV of a video... I can't even imagine this in person... hope my pacemaker can handle it... already told the doctor about my dumbass adventure to this coaster... he said you'll be ok, I said well you better hope so and have good malpractice insurance.
@@clarkness77you are incorrect. At my place of employment (General Motors) a near miss is exactly what a simple Google search states. Near Miss: Noun - a narrowly avoided collision or other accident. It was close to (nearly) a collision but was avoided (missed).
Man that thing looks like it’s flying over that top hat! Don’t see wind being as much of a problem for this iteration of the ride. The first one felt like you were barely crawling over the top.
Yeah, this was definitely the right move for this coaster. Sure, you no longer get the original's top speed launch from a standstill, but I think the multiple passes with increasing speeds, plus going waaaay up the super tall back spike will be just as exciting. The only issue I see is the very likely horrendous rider throughput. I haven't looked into TT2 much, does it have a dual sliding loading station like Mr. Freeze by any chance?

Check out that nice jolt at 1:22 lol Edit: Excuse me, those lovely 2 jolts 😂 Realigned the camera, just like it's going to realign your spine at 120mph, fresh off the top hat.
@@Crankflame8 I think the camera has stabilization on, which makes this even worse. Look at the body (front) of the train how it's rattling around. They also went with that no-weld aluminum body, so I think you're going to be feeling that through vibrations.
You all sound so pathetic and miserable I feel so sorry your lives are that bad, you all can take such an amazing and positive thing & make it ugly and negative like your lives smh Get help
I have a question regarding maintenance. For the old dragster I believe that the magnets among other items were primarily responsible for any delays. Will the new top thrill have about the same rate of mechanical faults or has the acceleration system itself been replaced and is more maintenance friendly?”
The old ride didn't use magnetic acceleration, it was a hydraulic system. This one uses LSM magnets to accelerate, which from what I've heard, are very reliable.
@@elevatorsbyliftfilmer1247 thats very good to hear. Many times I have visited cedar point dragster was shut down for extended periods due to mechanical breakdowns that took quite a bit of time to fix
@@fyecoasters I'm saying the rider capacity will be a lot lower than the original dragster the original dragster was able to run 4-6 train operations and still have no issues with trains colliding. on this ride you can only dispatch a train after it has cleared the top hat. don't see how engineers will make this ride have anything better than 2 train operations
the scariest part of this is the fact that there's a track switch on the high-speed section of the layout. if that ever malfunctions, everyone is dead.
I'm fairly certain that track switches have locks on them to prevent unwanted movement. Probably a large pin that locks it to a selected track once aligned properly. Furthermore im not aware of any roller coaster accidents resulting from misaligned track switches.
People act like the original Top Thrill didn't have a rattle or shake going down the launch. And I'm sure they have ridden it dozens of times by now and can make adjustments to the train.
Yeah if they *really* wanted to improve it they should have gone for a pneumatic launch, since S&S is apparently making those again. Also since Do-Dodonpa is gone, the title for fastest accelerating coaster is within range again, and everyone knows how Cedar Point likes their records
@@johnepants Backwards launches can be interesting, but accelerator coasters like Dragster are mainly defined by the gut-punching hydraulic launch (hence the name "accelerator coaster"). I think backwards launches have a place on more complicated layouts, but for a coaster like Dragster that launches from a standstill right out of the station it feels less like a cool ride element and more like a workaround to get the ride to work with a much weaker launch system.
The original dragster only had one launch to get you over the top hat, albeit it launched you way quicker so more intense. The new one still looks fun tho, won’t be such a short ride anymore and the backwards spike looks awesome
Remember when Maverick came out and people thought that was going to be a kiddie ride? And now we know it's pretty intense. I imagine the same will be said about this ride. Notice the guy said "positive g's." Positive G forces make you feel heavier than you already are, which could be quite intense, especially when you are going at speeds up to 120mph. He also says "negative g's." Negative g's, by contrast, make you feel a lot lighter than you already are. Personally, negative g's are more of an intense experience than positive g's. I think we don't like the idea of change: I get it. In a time where it seems like everything is changing, having a classic ride that is not unchanged is quite disorienting. However, remember why Cedar Point is iconic to this day: the amusement park keeps reinventing the wheel. If Cedar Point didn't keep up with the times, we wouldn't have a Top Thrill Dragster, Millennium Force, or a Steel Vengeance. And, say what you will about Millennium Force not being intense-- I actually don't disagree with this criticism-- you cannot deny Millennium Force is still a solid ride. It's smooth. It's tall. It's fast. It's a "long" ride in the good sense of the word. But I'm just a sucker for rides that just want to be pleasurable and fun. Sometimes when you try to break all these stats, it's like the people who designed roller coasters forgot what we like about them: joy and comfort. I have to be quite honest, I rode every major roller coaster at Cedar Point with no issues, but this reminds me of the first time I rode Top Thrill Dragster: I was so nervous to go on it I almost didn't do it. And boy, I'm glad I did it. It was crazier than I expected, but it is one of my favorite memories to this day.
I think its improved. I still think it was dumb not to add 100 ft to the top hat or spike and have the worlds first super coaster. Also who the hell came up with super coaster. Super is not as good as hyper or giga. The obvious name for a coaster over 500ft should be a TeraCoaster follow computer storage mega byte giga byte tera byte.
CP ruined this ride for me and many others. They could have done so much more with the "reimagining" Trains and color scheme are nice though. I'll give them that
Looks awesome 🎉🎉🎉 And if you notice, the train is going much farther up the top hat for the rollback, then the haters/naysayers thought! The front car is reaching just below the 5th cross / stability bar of the top hat which is over 200 ft! And on the climb up the reverse spike, the rear car is reaching a lil over 350ft🎉 Bottom line: there is NO Swing launch coaster anywhere reaching these heights or these speeds! This is another record-breaking world class coaster for Cedar Point and all the naysayers and haters should do us all a HUGE favor and don't come to Cedar Point😂
Right !!! Like wtf!! They can stay home and ride whatever little coaster that's near them. Meanwhile everyone else is having a party 🥳 at Cedar Point 😂
@@Emily-jo7jn even better, they can all pitch in and build the world class, best of the best roller coaster tycoon ride they can imagine! Oh wait, I forgot, they don’t get that much of an allowance.
